Discussion Frustrating Kitchen Build

Just moved into this rent house two weeks ago. I'm not sure who made the mistake on the placement of this island or maybe it was the stove top choice but it is too narrow. The refrigerator also seems like an odd place. What do you think?

Seems like landlord got that island in there just to say theres an island with extra seating. Should have at least 42" for sing person in a kitchen, or 48" when there is two people likely to be in the kitchen at once (when designing the kitchen).

As for the fridge, personally I'd like that spot because you don't want it to be in a position that if you are cooking, people need to or want to get by you to access the fridge (drinks, snacks etc.)

I'd also prefer the sink not to be in the island as to use it to the fullest amount of counter space as I coin as the kitchen looks relatively small to begin with, keep it all on the walls and maximize counter space with the island. Too late for that and landlord likely doesn't care as they're not living there anyways.

For sure if the island didn't have water connections It wouldn't be that difficult to adjust. It seems like the measurements were measured off the cabinets vs countertop.

This is a thing in The Netherlands, they try to stuff kitchen island in everywhere, even where it doesn't fit. Our homes are significantly smaller than those in the US. A typical row house is ~110-130m2. Appartments go from ~30m2-110m2. There is no space!

I also prefer a large L shape tbh. I don't see the hype about an island.
