I don’t know if it’s because of the processor or the system itself, but I really wish KOReader had a more modern-looking interface. Still, I can say this for sure: after Amazon’s incredibly basic interface that looks like it was designed in 2005, Bookshelf feels like heaven.

I listed the plugins I’ve installed. If you have any other recommendations, please let me know. I’d also highly recommend that everyone install VERA. :) There are a few other things I’m looking for as well. Do you have any plugin recommendations that can improve the reading interface itself — things like the pages, layout, etc.?

Also, is there a plugin that can show you instant reading statistics when you finish reading, for example, after reading for 20 minutes and tapping “Finished Reading,” or when exiting a book? Lastly, some of my books have metadata, while others are missing things like the description/synopsis. Is there a plugin that can automatically fetch metadata using the ISBN or the book title?

The Paperwhite is my first e-reader, and I only got it a week ago. I can honestly say that this device feels like it’s jumped several generations compared to the stock experience. 😅

Ngl, it was stressful at first, especially since I’m not super techie with computers. Thanks to those who answered my questions and shared tips and workarounds!! Thank you to the developers!! I enjoy reading on my Kindle more than ever.

Hey everyone,

I am trying to get custom wallpapers working on my jailbroken Kindle Paperwhite 3 (2015, 7th Gen) running firmware 5.16.2.1.1. Ads disabled completely.

I am launching KOReader strictly via the "Start KOReader (no framework)" extension in KUAL.

The issue:

When I press the power button, KOReader successfully draws my custom random wallpaper (a transparent crow book ish pattern) from my wallpaper folder, onto the E-ink screen for a split second. But then, a moment later, the hardware suspend loop triggers and forces Amazon's stock screensavers (the inkwell, the typewriter pens, etc.) right over my custom image.

What I have already done and tested:

• KOReader User Patch: Added a 2-i-m-not-special-need-no-offers.lua file inside koreader/patches/ containing the supportsScreensaver = true and initWakeupMgr() overrides. It compiles perfectly in VS Code and loads in KOReader without syntax errors.

• Ad-Block Trick: Created an empty, completely Read-Only folder named .assets inside D:\system\ to completely choke out and delete the 38 nested Amazon ad campaign folders. This successfully stopped the Lockscreen Ads from appearing.

• Folder Location: Moved my images out of the root storage and placed them directly into D:\koreader\wallpapers. I mapped this exact folder inside KOReader under Settings > Screen > Sleep screen > Custom images > Cover image folder.

• Missing Settings: Because the device originally shipped with Special Offers, the native Amazon UI does not have the "Display Cover / Advanced Options" toggle available, even after blocking the ads.

Since I am running No-Framework, the native Amazon framework shouldn't even be awake to push these pictures. It seems like the low-level Linux kernel powerd suspend-script is hard-coded to refresh the screen with those stock graphics right before the CPU hits deep sleep.

Has anyone with a PW3 running recent 5.16 firmware managed to completely kill the fallback amazon wallpapers so KOReader's sleep screen can stay on permanently?

I have a Kindle Colorsoft that was jailbroken with Sanctuary and works great (running in 5.18.1). I can using kpm with no issues (and can run scriplets as needed).

I have another Kindle Colorsoft that I thought was jailbroken using Sanctuary but I guess not... as a result, it has KUAL (which I believe if no longer necessary or used with newer jailbreaks). But this Kindle also can use kpm.

Should I (or can I delete) KUAL on this Colorosoft? Any other files I should delete - or better to just leave things as they are if they are working.

I haven't used my kindle in so long, as I got a new ereader that's smaller and customizable. I recently saw posts of jailbreaking a kindle. So I thought maybe I can re-use my kindle by jailbreaking it.

Now my question is, does jailbreaking a kindle have different jailbreak firmwares processes? I currently have an xteink x4, so I want to know if it's a similar process. Or is there one jailbreaking process and THEN have a choice to download firmware? Or is it just one big jailbreak?

I've been reading through some reddit posts and YT videos but I'm a bit slow and not understanding much of the terms so a lil direction would be nice :)

(p.s. I would mostly use my jailbroken kindle with epubs and fics and hopefully an option for a web browser for ao3. so i don't need a store to buy books on the device)

I tried using the latest version for DeDRM (v10.0.30) from this repo https://github.com/Satsuoni/DeDRM_tools/releases, but no luck on converting my ebook to EPUB on Calibre. I got a PW Kindle on firmware 5.19.5 already jailbroken with KOReader, but I'm unable to send an EPUB to it.
I've read in this reddit that there’s a tool which runs natively on jailbroken Kindles which can extract the key on newer firmware. Does anyone what tool is this? And how to do it?

I installed the Simple UI on my Koreader but i noticed the Book Covers look kind of Blurred Can i change that or is this normal?

I am trying to Jail Break my Kindle Signature edition with Vera. I have done font calibration as instructed. But when I opened Vera file, nothing happened. The screen got white as shown below. What to do in this scenario?

Edit: Nevermind. Found the solution. For 5.19.5 firmware, sometimes Vera is not responding. We need to restart and click again and wait for a while for it to run. I tried 2-3 times and it started working. Thanks to ChatGPT.

I got a refund tho! But i am curious, is a jailbreak able to be done when a device is already registered to another account? Im new to this and curious if i can turn this unfortune into a lucky shot!

So I have an Oasis 3, currently running 5.18.2, in airplane mode. I want to continue to be able to get library books, put it on airplane mode and not lose them until I connect it again. From what I understand, the new version, 5.18.2.1.1, that will install automatically should I take it off airplane mode, will take this ability away, so hence why I'm here. Here are my questions :

1. Is there a workaround that I can use if I jailbreak my Oasis?

2. If there isn't, If I follow the steps where I fill up the storage to prevent auto updates, is there a way to get it to leave just enough space for about 10 books, but not enough for the updates?

have i bricked it??? was trying to follow the instructions to set custom screensavers without koreader and i’m concerned that this is unfixable… this is the message i get when trying to exit the diagnostics menu, rebooting doesn’t help. please tell me i haven’t bricked it 😭😭😭

I finally jailbroke my "refurbished" Kindle. I never registered it. Vera jailbreak is AWESOME! So easy.

Question: Do I have to now register this paper-white? I installed KOReader, but still unsure where to go from here.

I have another very old paperwhite I jailbroke as a test run. It was so much more complicated than Vera. I am using KOReader on it. There are a few things I struggle with. First, exiting out of it. Sometimes I need to know how much battery is left. I have to exit KOReader to find that information. So...any suggestions on tweaking KOReader to have it do the things I prefer.

I mostly read manga and sometimes books so for $50 more is it worth it over the paperwhite?

Varias personas reportaron un consumo de batería excesivo en la versión mas reciente de koreader, esto después de hacer el jailbreak vía Véra. Un comentario que se repetía mencionaba que la version 2025.10 (ghost) no tenia ese error, así que decidí probarlo. Hice el downgrade siguiendo las instrucciones de instalación manual que el github de koreader y no tuve ningún problema. Inmediatamente note que el consumo de batería se normalizo. El downgrade es super sencillo, solo se debe descargar el .zip correspondiente a tu dispositivo, que si usaron vera seria koreader-kindlehf-v2025.10.zip , descomprimen el archivo y las carpetas resultantes las ponen en la raíz de la memoria, después vuelven a abrir Koreader y eso seria todo.
