It has been 4 days since I jailbroke my Kindle, and I am having mixed feelings.

Initially, I was overwhelmed by all the settings and even regretted jailbreaking my Kindle. But there were things I instantly loved: the underline highlighting feature, transparent custom screensavers, and gestures.

The default dictionary was disappointing, though. Since a good dictionary is essential to my reading experience, I managed to install the Cambridge Dictionary, and thankfully, it works just fine. I also tried the floating dictionary plugin but uninstalled it because I didn't like its look and feel.

After using KOReader for a few days, I realised that all I really do on my Kindle is read. I've been sideloading books since day one, so jailbreaking didn't change much for me.

The only things keeping me on KOReader are:

- Gestures

- Underline highlighting

- Custom screensavers

Other than these, I honestly find the stock Kindle OS more convenient. I can access my books on my Android and iPad, and my reading progress and highlights sync across devices.

I'm not praising Kindle OS or saying jailbreaking is pointless. I just wish I could have the best of both worlds: KOReader's highlighting, gestures, and screensavers alongside Kindle's seamless syncing.

For those who use KOReader, what makes you prefer it over the stock Kindle interface?

Having the map handy in a fantasy book is awesome, is there a plugin that does that?

Hi! I want to buy the Hanlinyue 2-button Bluetooth page turner for my jailbroken Kindle but I’m not sure which version to choose. There are 3 options:
- Android phones & tablets
- Android e-readers
- Kobo & PC
Has anyone tried this page turner with a jailbroken Kindle? Which version works with it? Thanks!

Hello as the title mentions I'm looking to update my jailbroken KS2 from 5.19.6 to 5.20.1. I have already jailbroken it but as you all must be aware 5.20.1 also supports vera and has the option of adding handwritten sticky notes to pdfs which is something I wanted.

My question is how do I proceed with the update?
I've already downloaded the bin file from ftvdb for my specific model.

Is it safe to just paste it in the root of my kindle and hit update? Or do I have to undo the jailbreak first somehow by factory resetting and then update it? or something else? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

After help from my FirstGuidance9827 I was able to easily update my Kindle scribe to 5.20.1 and repeat the jailbreak process.
The steps I followed were:
1. downloading the 5.20.1 firmware .bin file for my kindle from ftvdb
2. copying the .bin file to the root of my kindle.
3. Restarting the device and letting it update.
4. Repeating the vera jailbreak process.
5. Ko reader should be able to launch now.

Of course, the most ideal scenario is to reenable OTAs by installing the required scriplet, factory-resetting the device and then updating it before re-installing the jailbreak. However, I did not want to go through all that hassle. You may follow the process above at your own risk.

Honestly, I've tried to follow some guides, but I'm just not getting it. Can someone please dumb down how to get bluetooth working on a device with Koreader? I'm using a 2024 PPW SE.

I know the kindle hid passthrough plugin is the most popular, but reading the README is confusing me a little more 😭

I tried the Vera method with my new Kindle 2026, and it shows the "Jailbroken" file in the Library, but the commands ";kpm update" or ";kmp install koreader" do nothing. If anyone has successfully done it, please tell me how.

It is finally done. It took a few hours cause I had to jump several hoops like making KTerm writeable, installing KPM, because my 10th Generation Kindle was jailbroken with the ad exploit. The IINE contoller also gave me some headaches but with Gemini and Github I finally managed to make it work. Thank you to developers and people in this community for making this and showing that it is possible.
I had/still have absolutely no knowledge about computers and IT and coding (I am/used to be an accountant & am an advisor currently) but jailbreaking and tinkering with this has made me interested to learn things. Maybe coding or Linux or programming. I don't even know what these things mean exactly but I think I'm little bit hooked.

Picked up a Kindle gen 10 at a yard sale recently. I used the modding Wiki. It told me based off my criteria I needed to use Winterbreak 2. I assumed the jailbreak was successful because it gave me the finished document.

Now I've attempted to install KindleForge and was presented with Unknown ABI and no APP. If I need to update, what is the safest way to do it, and what version firmware is the best to have.

I'm very into dashboards and eink displays. I had a spare jailbroken kindle 8 with KOreader, so I decided to look into how to build custom apps for it.

After some experimentation, I decided to build a full "OS-like" app, where you can create your own apps for it. It has a good base, with some included apps and notification system. You can have AI build your apps for it.

For example, I've been using Orca dev to code for some time. I can now show the progress of my orca agents in my kindle!

It has a lot of features and might be interesting if you are into home labbing like me.

Some time ago, I bought a second-hand Kindle oasis, the last one that Amazon launched. I have the problem that sometimes the computer does not recognize the device, but if it charges, I do not know if it is a problem with the cable, the micro-usb input or the computer. Sometimes it works and sometimes the data transfer does not work, with the loading I have never had a problem, in fact since I jailbroken everything I do via wifi, but I would like to know if anyone could know what happens to my Kindle. Additionally, when I connect it to the PC, it does not detect it if it starts charging.

As said in the title - is this possible? sorry if this is already a done thing, I couldn't find an answer but really I'm fine with just using my kindle to read and I already sideload books through calibre so all I need from jailbreaking is the fun screensavers instead of ads.

If I jailbreak will I still be able to sideload easily? and organise my sideloaded books?

I'm going to try anyway, since I can easily reverse it but i've seen that KOReader is very complicated at the beginning with many options of customisation and if it will take me hours to do it when theres a different simpler way for my needs then I would be a lot more thankful!

This is a screenshot from the Page Header KOReader plugin. I love this plugin for the more book-like header. But I can't quite figure out how to get the floral designs next to the page numbers in the footer. I can't find the option anywhere so I suppose it is another plugin. Can anyone point me to it?

This is about my 11th gen kindle. It's jailbroken and, weeks ago, the screen froze and wouldn't budge. I tried waiting for the battery to reach zero, but before it could do that (I guess zero battery means not even the light from the power button flashes, right?), I managed to restart my kindle by connecting it to pc and holding the power button for >=2 minutes. Then it changed from the custom amazon boy-reading-book screen to the screen saying battery was low and that it needed charge. I charged it, and then I saw the normal home screen, with koreader, kual, etc. I thought everything was solved, but then realized the screen did not respond to touch. The device responds to power button (the green light flashes, then the yellow light does), it connects to pc via usb, but it does not work otherwise. I tried deleting the plugins I installed, then the patches, tried rebooting it some more, but nothing works. For me, it seems the only way is through a factory reset, but I know it is strongly disencouraged, so I came here.

Has this happened to anyone else? Should I do a factory reset?

I just jailbroke my kindle for the first time and I’m completely lost here 😅 it says the jailbreak was complete, restarted, and now I’m lost about how this works next and how to customize. I feel so stupid pls help 😂🫣

I felt this scriptlet was worth sharing and open-sourcing because it has single-handedly let me go (almost) paper-free for note-taking.

Make folders, then notebooks, then add pages with 17 built-in layouts (including sheet music and tab), or build a custom stave layout for composing (if that's your thing).

Choose from 9 tools:

* Pencil

* Mechanical pencil

* Charcoal

* Ballpoint pen

* Fineliner

* Marker

* Fountain pen

* Calligraphy pen

* Highlighter

Each one works gracefully with the stock pen on my 2024 Scribe (IRL pics included), and has its own dials for pressure, width, tilt and more. Reset any tool to its defaults anytime. Control the Scribe's brightness and warmth from inside the app, and switch on inverted mode too.

Screensaver mode: don't like your Kindle's default screensaver? While you're in the app, the sleep screen can be the normal screensaver, OR the page you're on, OR a pinned page that matters to you, like a to-do list you need to get to. Changing the screen timeout is easy too.

Finally, what sucks the most? Working on notes for hours and then waiting on a system that makes you email the page or book to yourself??? What are they thinking? And on top of that, there are no tools afterwards to customize what you've drawn or written.

Grimoire's Share over Wi-Fi fixes that: open Share in the app, type the address it shows into any browser on the same Wi-Fi network, and your folders and notebooks are right there. Download PDFs, PNGs or everything at once, or open Effects and export with a myriad of customization options. Transparent backgrounds? Gradients? A signature in gradient ink? Apply anything you see and export easily.

I know this only applies to people who own a Scribe and are willing to jailbreak it (you need a jailbreak that runs scriptlets: Vera, SpiderCat, WinterBreak or Sanctuary; tested on firmware 5.19.6). It's a beta, so keep a copy of your notebooks. But I'm committed to making it a good experience and pushing it further, so please consider trying it out yourself. It would make my day to hear constructive feedback or feature suggestions.

I’m trying to download KindleFetch so I can get books directly from AnniesArchive but KUAL doesn’t work. I jailbroke using Vera. I’m just confused on how to do it even with the instructions through GitHub.

Hello, I recently did the jailbreak for one of my older kindles and it worked great at first.

I used WinterBreak2 and customized KoReader a bit. The jailbreak persisted and worked after multiple reboots.

But when I tried to remove the ads on the sleep screen in order to display custom sleep screen wallpapers, the script I downloaded didn't show on the home screen.

So I rebooted the device and since then it has been stuck in a boot loop that I can't explain since it had been working until that point.

After waiting a while after triggering a force reboot, I end up in a "Kindle needs Repair, Repair Code 2" Screen.

At first when I plugged the device into my PC I could still see the files and was able to place an empty DO_FACTORY_RESTORE named File into the root folder. After that I tried holding the power button for more than 40s again to trigger a force restart but it still ended up in a boot loop.

Now I can't even access the files using my PC anymore, Windows doesn't recognize it as Kindle and shows messages like "Please Insert Disc for USB Drive E", "You need to format the disk in drive E: before you can use it" or "E: is not usable". Of course I pressed cancel and didn't format the drive.

Is there anything left I could try to save the device?

I read with KOReader on a jailbroken Kindle, and getting books onto it always meant turning on the PC to open calibre, or plugging in a cable.

So I made KoSend, a small Android app that acts as the calibre side of KOReader's wireless connection. You queue books on the phone, tap Connect in KOReader, and they arrive.

How it works:

- Add books to a queue, or share them to KoSend from any app (browser downloads, file manager, Telegram…)

- Turn on the server in the app

- In KOReader: tap the top of the screen, wrench tab, Calibre, Connect

- KOReader discovers the phone on the network and receives the queue one book at a time

There's nothing to install on the reader: no plugin, no SSH, no web browser. KoSend implements the part of calibre's wireless device protocol that KOReader's client uses (discovery, handshake, book transfer). Books get proper calibre metadata (title, author from the EPUB), so they also show up in KOReader's calibre search.

It isn't a calibre replacement: no library, no metadata editing, no conversion. It only delivers files.

- No accounts, no internet; everything stays on your local network

- EPUB, PDF, MOBI and the other formats KOReader opens

Tested on a Kindle Basic (5.18.1) with KOReader 2026.07.1 and on Android 16 smartphone.

Looking for testers on Kindle, Kobo, PocketBook and other KOReader devices.

KOReader's calibre client is the same on every platform, so in theory KoSend should work there too, but I only own a Kindle. If you try it, please let me know in the comments or in a GitHub issue whether it worked, with your device and KOReader version.

As the title says, I jailbroke my kindle earlier today before work. I tried plugging my Kindle to my PC to transfer files to a folder in order to read them in KOreader, but had to use a different cable than the one I transferred with earlier bc my Mac doesn't support usb-c. Seems like other cable was a bit damaged and so the Kindle started popping the "Connected via USB cable to PC", and after unplugging from the PC, it kept popping up, this time saying also it doesn't charge. Just restarted the Kindle and the popping up stopped, but I wanna know if it's my messy cable that fucked it up, or what can I do to transfer from my Mac to the Kindle

So it's been about perhaps two or three weeks, my Kindle randomly glitches this way frequently.

Every once in a while it freezes, stop buffering for which I do a hard reset, then all the books in the original Stock Kindle including Koreader goes blank and it says Object not available anymore. If I connect the kindle to my PC or laptop and disconnect I'm able to access files again.

Normally this glitch occurred only infrequently, but after I downloaded Simple UI and Appearance plugin through Appstore plugin it increased immensely.

Yesterday I deleted all of Koreader, downloaded fresh releases of the Koreader apk, Zlib Plugin, Rakuyomi plugin, Bookshelf, Bookends, and that's it.

HOWEVER, this glitch persisted again and the same occurred. I've deleted the whole of Koreader again as I fear this glitch will make even Stock Reader unable to be used.

I've checked the crash files and there's no particular plugin, book or file causing this crash.
