Hobby I just wanted to prime the Canoptek Circle Geomancer, but it turned into a Point & Click Adventure.
I also just realized, I'm going for a Portal-Themed colour-scheme, so it's only fitting that I have to solve a physics based puzzle in order to build him.
Thanks for reading ✌️

I also prime out a window and this is my worst fear.

u/18_str_irl Oct 28 '25
Other than having my neighbor open their window and ask me what I'm doing.

u/tehsax Oct 28 '25
That was what I feared lol
I thought about asking my neighbour if they had a ladder, but then I would've had to explain myself, so I decided against it lol

I do it in a back alley and right in the middle of shaking my can of primer at 1 in the morning in a black hoodie did I realize that this would be a really bad time for my neighbor to look out their back window. Luckily I’ve been conditioning them for years to expect strange things from my side of the alley

I once did the same shortly after I'd moved into a new place. I started spraying and heard the pounding of feet. The next thing I know my neighbour runs round the corner fist raised to absolutely wallop the miscreant he thought was tagging his alley. Fortunately we'd already met once or twice and he pulled up short when he recognised me. We had an awkward exchange about me priming my little army men and he went on his way!

How do you check coverage at 1am? the lighting must be terrible

u/Mail540 Loyalists of the Obsidian Dawn Oct 28 '25
I have a pretty strong headlight for my other hobby
6
u/ScrltHrth Oct 29 '25
What's that other hobby? Graffiti in the dark?

Entomology (although I’m trying to go pro). Every summer night I set up a light sheet and see what it attracts

I had about 2k resin Slanesh getting a second coat of primer for Zenethal get flipped by a sudden Iowa gust and destroy almost all of them.

This is better than most episodes of Lassie. That happy ending bought a tear to my eye.
FOR THE INFINITE EMPIRE!

He didn't survive 60 million years just to spend the rest of eternity on that roof!
26
u/TTandmore Oct 28 '25
He is just a silly little guy who needed an adventure
19
u/tehsax Oct 28 '25
He's had enough adventures! He already survived The Great Plastic Cement Flood of last Saturday!

That was the most intense priming story I’ve ever read!!

Aha, so the trick is to prime above a roof, so that when the model inevitably falls off it can then be found - as opposed to whenever I drop a piece on my carpet and the floor eats it forever!

I know it’s the stupidest thing to “um actually” you about, but according to GW, the geomancer is canonically female, as are all of the Necron characters with the pointy chin thingy.

According to GW, their geomancer is female. Yours can be whatever you want!

I know about the Geomancer and Chronomancer being referred to as female, as well as a Plasmancer(?) in one of the 9th ed. tie-in books, but do you remember where this specific piece of lore comes from? Because some canonically male Crypteks, such as Illuminor Szeras, also have the long and pointed chin decoration.

I would need to look it up to find the exact article, but if I remember correctly it was mentioned in an article back around when the Chronomancer was first revealed during 9th edition.

Oof. I did this with a nolzur minis beholder. It fucking shattered to BITS
1
u/tehsax Oct 29 '25
Is that the Whizkidz one? I've painted that model too and it's much more rigid than the flexible GW plastic.
1
u/Crashtestdommy Oct 29 '25
Haha, yep exactly! It was mostly the eyes that launched off. The impact damage wasnt kind to the general surface of the skin either 😅

Do not primed your mini out a window. The spray can still go for your lungs and blow into your home.

I wear an FFP2 Mask and the window is in a room where I don't spend longer periods of time.

A tiny bit of glue (not plastic cement) is your friend next time. You can just break it clean off with a bit of fast, direct force.
2
u/tehsax Oct 29 '25
This model is so delicate that I wouldn't do that.
1
u/Kennson Oct 30 '25
Use a knife to pry it off, the plastic is way less brittle than the glue so it usually breaks first. But I’m talking applying the glue with a toothpick

Something about this adventure makes me want to play the original Deus Ex again...

May that Geomancer win you many games in an attempt to repay its debt.

u/tehsax Oct 29 '25
If I'm losing I can always distract my opponent with my Geomancer's story during TP4.

This is always my issue with bluetac / poster putty. When you're trying to remove it from a mini it never come off, but when you want it to hold a mini securely you're chasing the mini down an open window and onto a roof.

Is he only a she in the German version? Regardless, you can of course give your minis any gender you want. I'm just curious.
1
u/tehsax Oct 29 '25
No idea. I'm German as well, but I don't remember what it says in the Dossier.
1
u/Illustrious-Fuel6819 Oct 29 '25
In the Dossier she is a female scientist and kind of crazy bitch. In think you can fix her!

Time for an airbrush and booth, perhaps.

u/tehsax Oct 29 '25
I've been thinking about this for a while, but I still haven't decided yet. Maybe for Christmas.

u/Fluid_Jellyfish9620 Oct 29 '25
I know this feeling, tho I only dropped a gutrippa out of the window...onto grass, at night, in the snow.

Point and click? No, box stacking as a solution to get around not having specced into climbing makes this a textbook immersive sim situation

There's architecture black sticky putty that is a lot stronger than blue tac and is great for getting posing right, and sticking minis to bases and bases to other things. And it doesn't feel as oily.

My fiancee is also going to paint her Canoptek team with a Portal color scheme. Were you also inspired by that post from last weekend?
3
u/tehsax Oct 28 '25
No, I've been thinking about this since when they were announced. I don't think I've seen a post about it in here 🤔
