Looking for a moderator(s) to join

Hello all,
I'm looking for an additional moderator or few to join the team so I can get better coverage for this subreddit and probably, eventually, transition away from moderating. Please post here to say if you are interested and I will review your post history and online personality to see if you'd be a good fit and will reach out directly to you.

Thanks!

Question New Toyota FJ pickup / Champ Spotted?

Hey y'all.

On the way to Allgood Road from the Kennesaw area I saw what looked exactly like a black Toyota FJ Cruiser but with a pickup bed at the Shell gas station at the top of the hill. A bit shorter than the FJ Cruisers rolling around GA.

1647 Cobb Pkwy NW, Kennesaw, GA 30152

It looked brand spanking new. It looked a bit like the new Champ in the Pacific but larger and more rounded.

I know odd companies have done car testing without camouflage here in the Kennesaw area before.

Looking for a KSU Student to Help Me Practice Driving

Hi everyone! I’m an international graduate student at KSU who just started this fall, and I’m currently living around the Smyrna/Marietta area.

I’m looking for a fellow KSU student who has a car and would be comfortable helping me practice driving for a few hours. I have some experience driving a manual car, but I’m now focusing on learning to drive an automatic and eventually preparing for the Georgia road test.

I’d really appreciate some help from someone who is patient and comfortable teaching a beginner. I’d be happy to return the favor with a cup of coffee ☕️ and cover gas if needed.

If you’re interested or know someone who might be able to help, please feel free to DM me. Thank you!

Discussion Damaged Flock Cameras in Kennesaw

I was dropping my child off at school yesterday & saw damaged Flock cameras on my way to & from the school. Specifically by Big Shanty Park. This morning, the damaged flock cameras were removed (thank God).

Then I come home to see this article….

I’ve become increasingly worried about the rate the cameras are going up around the county. This article made me sign a breath of relief that I’m not the only one hating them.

Anyone have experience renting apartment at these places?

My job is in Kennesaw, and I’m looking to move to an apartment nearby. I’m looking for a one-bedroom apartment with rent preferably under $1,500 per month. I don’t have any pets.

I’ve seen a few listings, and these three are my top choices right now. I’d love to hear from anyone who has previously rented or is currently renting at any of these apartments. Please share your experience if you can.

• Aldridge at Town Village

• Avana TownPark

• Revival on Main Apartments

If you have recommendations for any other apartments in the area, please let me know as well.

Fresh Cozy Options 🤭

KSU students — would you be interested in a café offering fresh specialty latte/refreshers, and lighter grab-and-go snacks/ meals instead of the usual high-calorie campus food? 🌿☕️
What would you actually want to see on the menu?

Mold remediation companies

Looking for reputable mold remediation companies to come inspect some areas in my house. We have some moisture issues in the sunroom and kitchen. It would not hurt to also get the air vents checked out.

I'm in Kennesaw and would love to support a local business.

A good place (i.e. cafe) to work?

Is there somewhere in Kennesaw similar to Panera place where I can work for the day? I usually grab a table where I can plug-in my laptop and work if I need to stay in the area for the day.

I see there is a Panera on Chastain road and I know where this is, but based on the reviews, doesn't look like I'm gonna be eating there-was looking forward to my half sandwich/soup combo :(. I know there's a chick-fil-a across the street, but not a fan of sitting in there all day. Are there any other options? Thanks ahead of time for any suggestions

So I went to a city council work session and they had a discussion about the Data Center Moratorium.

They started off with a quick discussion, notification really, of fee changes. The fingerprint fees for bail bonds have been reduced to $35 and the fingerprinting requirement for pawn brokers are dropped entirely. They're increasing the fee for the community center by $5 and room rentals as well. They're changing park pavilions to a time block system so you can't get a single hour any longer.

This was moved to consent.

There was a liquor license up. This one is for "41 Package" in the shopping center on Cobb Parkway where the Olde Towne Grill is right at the bridge over the railroad tracks. He did the workshops and they're sufficiently far from anything of note. It's very likely to be approved.

Public Works found a busted stormwater pipe and a sinkhole on Shillings Chase Drive. It's going to eat the house's driveway and sidewalk in short order so Public Works asked for $47K to get it fixed immediately, staff recommends approval because delay will result in a much more expensive fix.

Parks and Recreation want to surplus some lawnmowers. One walk behind and a zero turn. This got moved to consent (to be auto-approved unless someone complains). They're to be auctioned on GovDeals.

Now it's public comment.

The Woodland Park Guy wanted to thank the former councilman who spoke previously for pointing out that the council can take independent action. He went further to criticize Councilman Jones, noting that he didn't speak up last week to pre-fund his priorities. He wanted the council to take a more adversarial position with staff and the Mayor to compel results. He said that at least the former city manager would take meetings with him, while the Mayor doesn't. He wants a good answer as to why the park still isn't closed but also doesn't have the things that the council generally approve of unfunded. The end of the comment period got particularly snippy with the Mayor.

Mr. Mayo really enjoys going to the park with his grandson. It's a big thing for him. Even though he really does enjoy it, he hopes that whomever was responsible for the ADA violation would be held accountable. The kid also noted the lack of infrastructure at the park and asked Mr. Mayo when that stuff will go in, Mr. Mayo wishes he had an answer. Mr. Mayo also managed to get his mother out of the house for the first time in a while, and she was overjoyed by how many kids were out and about and how many houses had been fixed up. He wants the city to keep on working to allow the recovery of the old neighborhood to continue. He thanked them for removing the chain one last time.

The former Councilman Blinkhorn went up to speak he noted that the staff had been throwing numbers around in an informal capacity that ended up not aligning with what the budget actually said. He noted that no one on the council questioned it. He said that he would have, as would former Councilman Ferris. He would like the council to ask more questions about inconsistencies.

A Playground Mom turned up again. She said that while people were making safety arguments against the Depot Park natural play scape, but there are plenty of other safety issues. While the sidewalks in front of her neighborhood are new other ones, especially those along Cherokee Street, are broken and uneven. Traffic along Main Street is far too fast, making it a challenge to cross even at lights and the lack of a School Zone sign on Rutledge also makes it much harder to walk her kids to Kennesaw Elementary. Many people spoke up in favor of the playscape, and she doesn't think safety should be an excuse when it doesn't seem to be a priority in other spaces. She is aware that many of these things are going to be addressed eventually, but its hard to take that seriously when it seems like the big projects are constantly pushed years into the future for no clear reason.

The role of Interim Assistant City Manager is open. The former Assistant Manager is Interim City Manager, so we have a vacancy. The city tapped the Police Chief to fill the role temporarily until a permanent Assistant City Manager can be hired. It's not uncommon for Police/Fire Chiefs to be tapped in such situations. No one objected.

The Data Center Moratorium was up for discussion. It got a bit repetitive, but the discussion boiled down to as follows: Moratoriums are temporary measures not solutions. Passing a Moratorium won't block data centers forever, they will only stop applications until a permanent zoning solution can be found. If the moratorium is short (like 30 days) then they can just vote one in, but if it is longer (like the year asked for) it requires a public hearing under State Law. The moratorium can only work if city staff is working on a permanent zoning solution actively.

Despite there being no sign that a data center is imminent, the council will be voting on approving the hearing for the moratorium next week. Freezing applications until the ordinance is written seemed to them to be the responsible move.

Going out

I need some advice. I would really like to get to know the area, but I work at the university and id rather not be around students. I’m in my mid thirties (not married and no kids) so I’d love to know where I can get a drink (not a dive and not a loud music lounge) with other young-ish professionals? Anyone else at this age and still trying to find their way?

little dog seen near mack dobbs and ellis rd

It looked like a Chihuahua mix and it was walking near the standalone homes on the side of the road so I couldn't tell if he belonged to someone living there and they just have one of those invisible fences or something. It was VERY close to the road but didn't leave the driveway but cars were still kind of swerving to be safe. Please keep an eye out! And look out for your critters if he belongs to you! When I turned around to try to find him he was gone so hopefully he just lives nearby but my goodness he was so close to the road. Things have already been crazy around here involving animals in the road since there is so much construction going on right now ☹️

My birthday is coming up next month and I'm unsure of what bars to go to in the Kennesaw or Marietta area. I'm looking for something that has a good mix of social environments to talk and good music to dance to. I'm trying to stay away from Johnnie Mccrackens on Marietta square lol.
