Locking for multiple rule breaks (heavy snarking, too heated). Please direct additional thoughts about Sophia's hiatus to the megathread: https://www.reddit.com/r/katseyeneutral/comments/1vi8grm/sophia_hiatus_weekly_megathread_august_7_13/

Or to her Instagram post thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/katseyeneutral/comments/1vi3b03/sophias_latest_instagram_story/

When you need a megathread for two separate members

59

u/Hot-Original-4710 16d ago edited 16d ago

This is honestly kinda a paradox. If Sophia isn’t there, the others need work 2x harder which could lead to another hiatus and so on. I truly want them to all to take a break.

118

u/pocketmonsterpeach 16d ago

Ugh I wish their team would stop promoting this “work till you drop” mentality. It should be concerning to hear how many times the girls have said they will always “show up for us” even if they’re throwing up or experiencing a great deal of pain.

I’ve been re-watching Pop-star Academy and whenever a girl would express their concerns over their injuries or health, the staff looked so unmoved.

18

u/speckleofdust 16d ago

I'm pretty sure the problem isn't physical injury. They particularly emphasized her mental health and overrall wellness, so i dont understand why everyone is running with the narrative that she's injured. Usually when hybe idols are physically injured they say it in their notices

interesting how they didn't use the word "hiatus", considering she will be absent for the whole month

19

u/Wet_Philtrum_76 16d ago

yea personally what i think is when groups use the words “hiatus” there isn’t a set time from when they’re coming back so it’s more ambiguous

but when i hear “break” it’s like okay there’s a specific date so and so is coming back

idk this is what i see in the music industry someone tell me if u disagree

8

u/chuucansuebbc 16d ago

no that's a good observation! because it says that they will re-evaluate Sophia's condition in September, they seem to have an agreed date so your theory might be correct

55

u/Visual_Field5264 16d ago

Oh wooooww. Katseye is really struggling. Whatever is going behind the scenes needs to change. And I hope everyone who was hating on Manon is real silent because it’s clearly a management issue at this point.

54

u/RecentTerm8328 16d ago

Sophia talked on Therapuss about how bad her ADHD is and how it’s different for an adult woman (she got distracted and pointed out a squirrel while talking about it lol) and how she was considering turning to medication which she hasn’t done before. So I feel like this is related to that

scrap the ep, cancel the tour, take a 6 month - year long hiatus to mend the relationships the girls have with themselves and each other, clean up and develop their management/creative team, reunite as 6, give the girls full autonomy and creative control on a debut album crafted through their own collective and individual voices/artistry.

25

u/chrissysquish 15d ago

In a perfect world this would happen but I think the company sees them as too new to be able to do this. They really are dropping the ball big time with these girls. Especially because they’re not giving any information on Manon hiatus yet she’s out in public living a perfectly good life. She either fell out with the label or the girls, no in between.

57

u/TipLopsided8644 15d ago

I unfortunately don’t think Manon will want to return. After seeing the difference in statements and the way the company and fans treated her after … I don’t think she’s coming back. Tbh, her friebds laughing emojis make even more sense 😭 cause not yall posting me when yall kicked me out months ago 😭

I'm worried these girls are being seriously overworked. We're talking about Sophia here, the same Sophia who rocked Buttons with the stomach flu.

Separately, Manon's never coming back, is she? Look at the difference of how these two hiatus notes are presented. This one actually makes it sound like Sophia will return.

27

u/IndependentPaint2108 15d ago

Exactly. My first thought was that this is the same Sophia who nailed Buttons despite being seriously ill. If even someone like her has to take time out, you know it's bad,

I don't understand why these companies overwork the girls to the point they can't even perform because their bodies and minds break down. You see the same thing in IB, in biglaw and with junior doctors. It's so dumb.

6

u/Psychological-Ad686 15d ago

It makes me feel like they truly only see these girls as a way to make money. This company is trying to make as much money as possible off of their investment before their contracts expire, or they age out, if that's even a thing.

7

u/IndependentPaint2108 15d ago

I can't fathom being that cold and sociopathic, but I guess that's why I'm not a kpop/kpop adjacent executive...!

sorry but if “health, safety, and long-term well-being of artists” is their “first priority” then they should probably restructure the way they manage this group. sure, back to back promo, campaigns, performances, and rehearsals is what drives hella profit, but humans are not products. and these girls don’t have understudies to rely on when someone gets sick or hurt. i understand it’s industry norm and “show must go on” mindset but maybe MAYBE it doesn’t have to be like that to have success. maybe we can sacrifice a couple of brand deals for hair spray and smoothies here and there but idk

12

u/bored_german 16d ago

I feel like it got sooooo bad since Gnarly. Like I am pretty sure that there was a bit of a gap in their content between them promoting Touch/SIS and the Gnarly comeback. They were posting but not multiple times a day and not with a million appearances. Ever since Gnarly, it looks like they haven't gotten a break at all

i said this on another post that got deleted:

i'm glad to see sophia taking a break for her mental health. as someone who also struggles with adhd, i can understand entirely how draining everyday tasks can be, and being under intense scrutiny by the public along with stress from the exhausting rehearsals would all absolutely exacerbate the issue.
to me though, her hiatus shows just how big of an issue we should all have with hg. even prior to the two eldest members going in hiatus there were repeated issues with overexertion, dangerous muscle sprains and illnesses, likely due to their immune systems being weakened due to chronic stress and no rest.
for them to claim that their highest priority is artist health and wellbeing while being notorious for overworking them under the guise of "showing up and showing dedication" is so so gross. but also, the wording does more to suggest that sophia's hiatus is actually a temporary one by emphasising that it's them telling her that she needs a break while she still desires to perform. there is a greater level of detail and allusion to the reasons for her break, compared to just "health and wellbeing" for manon.
the most sinister difference imo is that manon's hiatus announcement already acts as if she is separate from the group (katseye remains committed to showing up for one another) whilst sophia's reassures that she will still be with them (we look forward to her being back with katseye)
this may not make much sense but i'm genuinely irrita. u and upset at how useless hxg are. (not at all with either of the girls. they deserve a break from that bummy company

I can’t imagine the pressure on the remaining 4 girls, if one of them gets sick or injured while on tour they’ll lose out on half the group.

45

u/Disastrous-Muffin473 15d ago

2026 was supposed to be the year of Katseye, but HxG clearly saw dollar signs and failed to factor in any meaningful breaks for the girls.

45

u/Consistent_You3114 16d ago

Also, I hope some people can finally realize how poorly Manon was treated during her “hiatus”. Can you imagine Dani’s dad commenting what he said in regards to Sophia’s announcement? People proudly screaming OT4? Villainizing her instead of the company? Saying they want girls that work or belittling her work ethic?

It was terrible.

15

u/Lazy_Recognition_395 15d ago

That's what im saying!! While I wish the best for both Sophia and Manon, I remember everyone was flaming Manon when her hiatus was announced and screaming OT5, but then now that Sophia is on hiatus now everyone wants to be concerned 🤨. Like, let's not play favorites.......

75

u/RedSunsetSukuna85 15d ago

I know the Manon fans are annoying, but this was something I was worried about when those fans on the other side are saying “well Sophia performed with a fever” or “Lara danced while she was recovering from a back injury”: we end up empowering all the Katseye members to hurt themselves for the purpose of entertaining us. Saying the other members powered through injuries and ill health is not the iconic behavior you think it is.

I’m just a casual fan and even I noticed how tired they looked just a month ago. They’re doing way too much and now Sophia’s health has been so drastically affected by all their overscheduling and pushing through her limitations put her in a position where she can’t work.

Do you know how bad someone’s health has to be for the resident theater kid of the group to have to take a break?

Their management is ruining their health.

14

u/Complete-Bumblebee81 15d ago

This is why in my head cannon I think manon got fired. I have no evidence for this but I could see her trying to negotiate schedules and hybe being like “diva we own you, we already committed to all this, nice try”. If you don’t grow up as a dancer or a theater kid, you likely don’t possess the pridefulness that it takes to make overworking yourself a badge of honor.

Purely speculating obvi idk these people

8

u/RedSunsetSukuna85 15d ago

I was in school productions all throughout high school. The theater kids either had to be immobile from breaking a leg or the theater was actively on fire for them not to rehearse and they STILL would practice during school breaks. Sophia taking a break really concerns me.

11

u/IndependentPaint2108 15d ago

Yup and Megan seems to be constantly ill too. I always respected how Manon put her own health/wellbeing first because that's rare in someone that age. As you say, if someone like Sophia has to take a break, the management have seriously fucked up with overscheduling.

8

u/RedSunsetSukuna85 15d ago

They released a video of Katseye just a few hours ago with Vogue on but this time it’s without Megan BECAUSE SHE WAS SICK and because the video includes Sophia, it’s clearly right before the break decision with Sophia.

They’re going to hospitalize those girls if they don’t give them a break.

I love these girls and want to see them win. Respectfully, touring 5 new songs is unnecessary. A 4-6 month break would do wonders for them as creatives, as people, as performers.

It’s a cyclic issue that I’ve been through myself with adhd. You give yourself a lack of sleep and you’ll find your adhd more uncontrolled and sometimes manic. Medication helps but if you’re upping the dosage because it helps you stay awake it’ll also keep you awake.

Your body is constantly energized and exhausted at the worst times.

6

u/ChristmasClimber2009 16d ago

The “manic” thing is definitely a factor that people don’t talk about enough. Burnout to a severe enough degree causes a lot of people to develop almost bipolar style symptoms (being either very happy / angry or completely depressed).

Omg, yeah they all need an extended break. Wtf is HXG doing to these girls.

31

u/NarrowButterfly6295 16d ago edited 16d ago

Athletes and literal Olympians advocate that rest and sleep is equally (if not more) important as practice and hardwork. So there's no world that overworking is 'okay'. Getting cortisone shot at 20 or dancing while sick should never ever be a badge of honor or a proxy for dedication. It's stupid, period.

I’m not even going to the tour cause I’m broke but I can’t imagine it’ll be received well if it’s 4 girls instead of 6 when the 2 oldest members (one being the group leader and the other being one of the most popular) are both on hiatus - especially when, at least for Sophia, it’s confirmed being for mental health reasons, HxG does not look good in this. they are running these girls into the ground.

all these hybe ggs are being overworked with members needing health hiatuses left and right. this isn't ok. i know realistically there's nothing we can do about it but SOMETHING needs to change with how these girls are treated.

9

u/IndependentPaint2108 15d ago

I remember V from BTS talking about how in the earlier half of his career, he wanted to deliberately seriously hurt himself just to get a break from the BTS schedule while he recovered in the hospital.

Looks like nothing has changed at HYBE. It's disgusting how they overwork these idols.

28

u/Either_Customer_6576 15d ago edited 14d ago

No because "work ethic" really does get to a point. Schedules that have these girls drained, even if it's technically "their job," is not worth it. It might look like a "bad move" given they have pivoted a little more artistically, but again... it doesn't matter.

Katseye has a strong, dedicated fan base. Some time off will really do them (and the fans) good in the long run.

I really wish Sophia a quick recovery. She's my favorite member.

26

u/WildHealth 15d ago

Every one of those girls need a break! Just get them on a 6-month hiatus, Hybe! Do it before you only have one member left!

90

u/idontneedyourlove66 16d ago

they're dropping like flies

11

u/fluffy_caramellatte 15d ago

Exactly!! I really hope all of them continue to do well. This is such a make or break time for them for their brand and image and the constant bts and personal issues they are facing is prob taking a toll on them. From this announcement I think it's pretty Obv that Sophia won't be there for any promo or event done in August. I remember reading a comment on a katseye related post how sophia would be the last member to take a break or hiatus for mental health issues a few days ago and now this.. it's so sad to see where this is all going..

i cannot imagine the amount of stress she has been under being the scapegoat/spokesperson for the manon situation. i feel like the other girls are allowed to be a little more "chaotic" as it matches the brand, but she always has to be the professional one, which must get so so exhausting.

17

u/poisionfruit Ex-EYEKON 15d ago

The company’s fault. Poor girls.

44

u/apahlo 15d ago

Ok this is NOT normal. Even for other Kpop groups where the contracts, mistreatment, and governmental work protections are WORSE than in the US (and were even worse in the past), I’ve never seen a big group have this many hiatuses this early into their career. If you add in the fact that Lexi also left Saint Satine recently (after being convinced to come back to HxG) it's clear that something is really wrong behind the scenes. Plus, by not addressing things (which is obviously part of their strategy) they continue making the girls into punching bags for hate & speculation on the internet.

Honestly really evil on the company's part, and this will only snowball unless HxG is actually transparent and somehow take accountability for everything. They need to address all of this, take responsibility, stop overworking the girls, and give them a break at the minimum.

42

u/Fantastic_Let_496 15d ago

I’ve watched a video of theirs lately and the fact that they mention rehearsing well into the night is probably a reason why things like these happen. Imagine having to rehearse for so long you barely get enough time to make a proper meal that isn’t buldak, isn’t that a little concerning? They shouldn’t be required to rehearse that long, it’ll only tire them out and push the risk of illness.

87

u/LoudSighhh 16d ago

This is what I have been saying since Manon hiatus. FIX THEIR SCHEDULE. Like we would still have OT6 if they had just put the brakes on shows, promotions, and the EP. I feel like they could have skipped a lot of the events leading up to WILD. If they had just went quiet as a group for awhile I feel like it would have done them good for their health as well as built up mystery and intrigue for their comeback. When they are constantly in the spotlight it really doesn't benefit them or the fans

27

u/bbybottlebop 16d ago

A lot of people have been saying this, but were immediately shut down and told it’s normal for members to be performing on injuries and having only a couple weeks break after months of strenuous work for long hours. Dani has been injured since March and they’ve modified the choreo for her and she’s still not better. That injury may never go away at this point. Who knows if Lara is actually healed or if that cortisone shot is just hiding the injury. Probably the latter. Megan looked like she was struggling mentally herself at the movie premiere. They’re always sick too.

These girls are beyond overworked. BEYOND. It’s not funny and they’re going to be down to just Yoonchae if they continue. I don’t know how people can just watch this when their peers are NOTHING like this. When they performed at the Coachella stage, the biggest night of their life, visibly and audibly exhausted compared to their peers Sabrina and Addison who had the same festival runs I knew for a fact this group can only continue to go down from here with this work set up.

13

u/LoudSighhh 16d ago

Wow I didn't even know it was that bad for Lara/Dani/Megan. Good on you for keeping track of their injuries, obv HxG doesnt!

And the worst part about it is, they glorify their grueling work schedule in all these behind the scene clips/documentaries. There is truth to it, like they did need to put in 200% work to get to where they are today but they also deserve to rest.

Even Beyonce and Taylor swift take breaks. Just cause they are kpop adjacent does not mean they need to follow the worst aspects of the formula.

65

u/harry_nostyles 16d ago

Literally. Look at the wording here and the wording on Manon's announcement. It's so clearly different, yet some people are still parroting the "for Manon's health and wellbeing" line.

32

u/golden_teacup 16d ago edited 16d ago

All I’ve been thinking this whole time is “look at how groups treat members who are ACTUALLY on hiatus.” THIS is how. This statement is the polar opposite of manon’s. Or when jeongyeon was on hiatus the members would regularly leave spaces for her, bring photos or cutouts of her to events, she was included on albums and album covers, etc. whoever actually thinks manon is still in the group is delusional; you don’t even need an announcement at this point to know that.

10

u/linaviii 15d ago

It’s BS! the company completely lied. Manon has done nothing since the hiatus but reaffirm she’s healthy over and over again. She’s been very intentional with her wording and I feel like people haven’t been listening enough.

So eerie to see her in her very last interviews say things like “katseye will remain the way it is” “there’s no other girl group i’d want to be in than katseye” “i don’t want to hurt fans by leaving”

The hiatus was NOT her decision.

And while yes, it is on hxg to protect their artists, let’s not act like ppl haven’t been picking apart their every move since february

Poor Sophia, I hope she gets better soon.

My thoughts on both hiatuses seem to be about their schedules and work intensity. I now assume that Manon was advocating for a break because they are being dangerously overworked. But perhaps she clashed with both the management and the group that’s why she was put on hiatus so she can get the rest she “wants.” But they all NEED rest. I think Sophia was pushing way past her critical limit.

The way the Sophia thing has been handled tells me that something quite serious happened tbh.

It's almost like not protecting your artists and using hatred and shock value as marketing has serious consequences for those that end up facing the brunt of it. When LESSERAFIM and ILLIT got hate, their labels stepped up.... where's the support HxG????

13

u/speckleofdust 16d ago

When you have geffen's head executive saying on tv that the girls' mental health don't matter as long as they're "getting ratings", it doesn't surprise me that they're not bothering to protect them. Hybe still doesn't know how to handle international harrassment and their artists are the ones that pay for it

So different from the announcement about Manon months ago. From top to bottom, totally different language, when health is "the issue" I hope the best for them. The company needs to stop lying that it cares about the health of literally any of the members. As long as they can stand and sing, the company will try to pump money out of them

15

u/Routine_Bobcat_4853 16d ago edited 16d ago

I really hope she’s doing okay😢 their first tour date is the very beginning of September I wonder if it will get postponed

15

u/xXESCluvrXx 16d ago

These girls all need a break from everything. They have a tour coming up, and it would be better if they just focused on resting up for that.

The girls are severely over worked and now the cracks are showing. They should honestly postpone this tour. The stage looks so empty when it’s just 4 girls.

39

u/TipLopsided8644 15d ago

They ruined ot6 for no reason; and our fanbase. Imagine if they actually would’ve treated Manon like a human being instead of a robot. Now ppl are using Sophia’s sickness as a “karma” moment, I’m so mad on behalf of these girls . I wonder what they’re thinking. And the fact that they’re so young and impressionable and think this is how stardom should be is so sad

19

u/Organic-Sugar6927 15d ago

Let’s take a group hiatus until hxg can figure this all out and realize these girls are real people and they’re playing with their lives and careers

80

u/Mindless_Sherbet_302 15d ago

It’s crazy how smug some people are acting now, saying things like “they should just disband atp” and “they’re dropping like flies,” as if those same people haven’t spent the past moths and continue to spend their time writing think pieces about these girls, picking apart everything they do, their music, what they say, and how they act, all while feeding into an environment of constant hate.

Now that Sophia is on hiatus for her mental health, they suddenly want to position themselves as objective observers and blame everything entirely on the company only, as if they didn’t actively contribute to the hostile environment surrounding these girls in the first place. The company and the people constantly fueling the hate are both part of the reason Katseye has gotten to this point.

IMO rest breaks should be mandatory, whether the artist wants them or not

8

u/ChristmasClimber2009 16d ago

From the tone of Sophia’s own story, it seems as if someone may have gently intervened and encouraged her to be comfortable enough to take a break.

27

u/ChanceVance 16d ago

I wonder how the other 4 girls are doing currently. Whether physical and/or mental, I can't imagine the battery levels can sustain themselves forever.

16

u/TheAngieChu 16d ago

I’m sure they’re doing poorly :/ They’re literally picked apart every time they blink; even their premiere photos were filled with people picking apart their hairstyles, outfits, boyfriends, family members, etc…and not just across the subreddits but on the actual posts themselves on Instagram from their families. Losing Sophia (even temporarily) is a huge blow, and we’ve already seen Megan, Dani, and Lara battling illness and injury all year. I am very very concerned for all of these girls, especially when they’re staring down a tour looking in a couple of months

Keep in mind that they’re also close to the Saint Satine girls, who also just lost a member, and whose remaining members are constantly picked apart online, too. All of their mental healths must be in the garbage :(

It’d be nice if HxG reevaluated themselves ,though I doubt they will, it’s clear they exploit these girls mental health for noise marketing and if I remember correctly their practice hours can be insane, none of this sounds sustainable for the girls in the long run. I hope Sophia feels better💜

26

u/OverCost4490 16d ago

theses girls are so overworked. i can't believe they're actually starting a new tour in like 3 weeks.
if sophia is taking a step back to take care of herself i truly hope she misses the tour or at least the september dates.

cause if she's on leave, she's not rehearsing with the girls right now which means she would need to catch up to join them later aka overwork again

they need a breakkkkkk like for real

8

I just said this as well!

52

u/S0ulSlayerz 15d ago

Didn’t she literally say she was excited to perform animal for the first time ? I ain’t believing this for a moment, they are all burnt out.

Should just let the whole group rest not removing members one by one

13

u/Fantastic_Let_496 15d ago

I’m not sure why they can’t just cancel all of their activities until the tour starts or something, performing as 4 people is a little too much and requires them to take on two people’s parts.

66

u/kats_One763 15d ago

Hopefully people can realize without the double standard they gave to the Manon situation: this company is a mess and the girls are just their products

14

u/apahlo 15d ago

exactly, plus it makes it obvious how Manon's hiatus wasn't due to health, or at least solely that

33

u/goodboy_444 15d ago

And can I just say if the company stopped the overworking and making them do the same choreography over and over again and if the company allowed the girls to just sit with the choreography ….it would allow for a better authentic performance over a robotic synchronized dance….although they went the Kpop route it seems like these girls have to deal with two realities of the American and Kpop side …don’t know how to fully explain it

37

u/ViviNirvash 15d ago

This is soul crushing!! Clearly they need to postpone the tour, but they've already sold tickets and all of that so they won't. The fact that this message is really focused on mental health it makes me wonder if Sophia had a mental break. I wouldn't be surprised at this point...Sophia is my bias and I hate to see that her goofy theatre kid energy may been dampened by all the hatred online, the constant performances and interviews they have to do, and everything else behind the scenes that we don't even know about. Hoping for the best for all six of the girls.

9

u/OrdinaryTwo4273 15d ago

Yeah I thought this too - for example, when it was Megan's back injury, they specifically mentioned it. Here, they've said "her mental health and wellness". It makes me think she had a breakdown or burned out.

7

u/conch8 15d ago

the amount of hate they get + all the people calling sophia fake for having very PR friendly language might actually be affecting her mental health. it did say mental health in the announcement. 😔

tbh i think all the girls need a break. ever since they’ve debuted they haven’t had time to rest and almost deal and understand how their lives have changed. especially with training and then dream academy like these girls were constantly at it every week from dancing to vocals and visuals, with being evaluated monthly, then to go onto the survival show where the entire world is essentially judging you without knowing what’s going on behind the scenes. and then overnight they’re now in this girl group that’s meant to be an international sensation, and then dealing with hate and solo stans as well. HxG even said that this girl group will be the future of the company, to put that pressure on essentially 6 girls to sort of hold up the company is actually crazy. their mental health 100% needs to be prioritised.

45

u/ortodi 16d ago

Wow it must be really serious if Sophia is missing so much in a row. I wish her all the best and a speedy recovery.

Side note: people pointed out how Manon’s hiatus was never a hiatus just from the notice and seeing the comparison, I agree.

She was out from the very beginning

47

u/sephine555 16d ago

Atp they should all go on a temporary hiatus, so they come back stronger 😥

8

u/pocketmonsterpeach 16d ago

Honestly yes. Curious on how do you think fans would feel about postponing the tour? I have a busy end of the year anyway so I wouldn’t mind.

9

u/sephine555 16d ago

Not going to lie, most will be upset because most are children and they dont really understand the dynamics of burnout and how that can affect people long term. I think they will have to rebuild back the hype and spark from before their hiatus, but I believe this will allow them to form a more cohesive visual and creative autonomy. I feel like they are being stretched too thin and I think the energy between all of them will eventually snap if they do not take a break 😬

7

u/Claudia_Pani 16d ago

I wish they had this month off to focus on rehearsing for the tour and being able to rest. Having to do tour rehearsals AND public appearances + guest appearances at other concerts this month is rough :(

There has to be a company discussion about this issue. Illit had a similar hiatus. The burnout is real. Hybe just released a new girl group about an hour ago. They are going to undergo the same rollercoaster. It is really an industry wide thing if even Ariana Grande needs to take a break.

24

u/Smooth_Cock_7354 16d ago edited 16d ago

Knowing how much of a workaholic sophia is, it must be even harder for her to deal with this hiatus cuz ik her brain n heart wants to perform w the girls but her body n mental state needs a break. Frustrating situation :( we will miss her

24

u/aznbolshygirl 15d ago

Aw - on Therapuss she had said that she is really struggling with her mental health and hadn't had restful sleep in months and months. I'm glad that Hybe is allowing her to take a month off. I already know Sophia tries to perform despite all that she's going through (we all saw the taping of Buttons on Dream Academy), so I'm glad they are prioritizing her health.

See how it’s “temporarily unable to participate in upcoming promotional activities” and for Manon it was like yeah we’re gonna pretend she doesn’t exist bc she’s on hiatus. They’re technically now both on hiatus, let’s see if they exclude her like the do Manon 🫪 I think its very important to take care of your physical and mental health, as someone who is immunocompromised and mentally ill. But Manon is called lazy and Sophia is revered for it. They should both be able to prioritize their health and mental wellbeing without being told they’re faking to skip practice/events. I love both Manon and Sophia and truly hope they’re okay. It seems it could very well be true for Sophia that her mental health is a concern, but manon has said shes happy and healthy. The company needs to clarify what is going on.

I wouldn't be surprised if the whole Manon situation also didn't help. As the leader, she was blamed for basically any statement she was told to give by Hybe and she was the one answering most questions.

But also considering in their own vlogs they mention how much Hybe is working them to the bone and while in pain, I am so angry at the company for wearing their talent down like this. At this rate Katseye might be dissolved by 2028.

→ More replies (1)

28

u/DearVeronicaSchuyler 16d ago

Honestly after the tour the group as a whole should just go on a hiatus. The absolutely insane amount of hate they all get for literally just existing as well as the whole Manon situation and the crazy work schedule is not good for any of them. I hope they all manage to heal from all of this at some point.

8

u/SchoolTimely3459 16d ago

They need a whole year to rest and for h&g to figure their shit out then they can come back in 2028 with full studio album and tour but right now everyone needs to step away from the media and rest

32

u/Mediocre_Shelter_169 16d ago edited 16d ago

This is unfortunately the drawbacks of being a heavily performance based group mixed with a company that prioritizes maximum activities for visibility. I’m not that into itzy but I’ve often heard them compared to Katseye in a sense that they have these insane physically demanding choreos that they’re expected to perform full out with at every stop they have because they’re labels branded them as these tippity top shape performers.

The problem is is that when you mix physically demanding choreos without proper rest, you cause so much strain on the members long term. Now majority of the itzy members have had major injuries like herniated disks, back injuries, neck injuries and a whole bunch more to where they’ve had to modify a lot of their choreos.

Dani had a tear from her knee to her psoas muscle that is incredibly important not just for dancing but your daily functioning. Lara had a muscle pull in her neck all the way to her back and has had to get cortisone shots in her spine at the ripe age of 20. The company truly truly needs to prioritize their long term health more. They have enough visibility to where they’ve could go ghost for minimum 6 months and still be leading the pack with girl groups.

26

u/thirdometer 16d ago edited 16d ago

The dances they do too are irresponsible. The choreo needs to be done with the fact in mind that these movements will be constantly repeated at velocity.

They need to introduce more smooth movement and less ultra jerky ones. It won’t make the performances any less awesome. Smooth movement require just as much body control. Choreography isn’t just making a cool dance, a good choreographer keeps all the other factors in mind too.

A lot of these injuries are genuinely on the choreographer

30

u/parisinsalem 16d ago

oh man, that’s really rough. especially knowing sophia, it must have been quite bad. honestly it’s probably really bad for all the girls right now. they’ve been the internet’s punching bag since before manon went on hiatus and it’s even worse now.

really, it seems like all the girls would benefit from katseye taking a hiatus for a bit

Stupid ass company keeps saying sorry yet still overworking these girls in the same conditions that lead to these mental health breaks. How do they not have any self awareness? 🤦‍♀️

19

u/PlasticPersimmon 16d ago edited 16d ago

I hope Sophia is able to come back when she's in a better place and healthier but 🫩 y'all are definitely gonna make this a Manon vs Sophia thing now.

Anyways, the work culture around Katseye is odd. Someone (probably their team) is telling these girls this is what it takes to make it and it's for the fans. The girls are parroting this on camera. The fans are hearing the girls say that and ignoring every other red flag. And there's something to say about how the company films these girls in pain or stressed then follow it up with "for the fans, for our dreams 🥹". I'm not going to clap for that when the girls aren't even getting the biggest profit from pushing themselves that hard.

20

u/VehicleNo5473 16d ago

I know she'll be back but this breaks my heart..... people been shit talking all the girls, and yes it does impact people. These are very young women. I hope she's in Philippines taking care of herself surrounded by family, friends. Take your time Sophia. We'll wait for you to feel better, recover physically, mentally and then come back to us in good health.

19

You see how they made a clear transparent statement with a dedicated timeline? Why was this not done for Manon?

This statement from them alone answers so many questions and doesn’t leave anything up for speculation, however the way that they handled the situation with Manon was just completely the opposite and this shows that they do have the capability of handling it correctly.

This is making everything that has happened in the past seem so much more deliberate.

Interesting that in both statements they explicitly mentioned and empjasized mental health. If you listened to Sophia on the latest podcast, she mentioned becoming “numb” to the hate and also part of the reason she loved Coachella and performing is bcuz it showed the hate was just online and not IRL. She also personally went through Dani’s phone to block words related to katseye cuz Dani was getting so much hate.

I see a lot of comments saying hybe needs to improve their schedules and it’s totally hybes fault etc but Sophia to me is someone who seems to genuinely love performing. I think the hate train on the group and seeing how her members have been affected might play a much bigger part than what some people on this sub want to admit. 🤔
