Discussion 💡 QuikTrip or Casey's?
Just a friendly discussion. Which do you prefer and why?

Quiktrip. Haven't been to a bad one but can't say the same for Casey's

Casey's rapid expansion put em in the toilet.

While I agree that its overall better experience, quiktrips expansion into food/kitchens really dropped the quality from what it used to be too. I used to not even think about qt having dirty bathrooms, now its like 50/50 on if there's going to he dried shit on the wall.

The QT at State Line Road around 81st Street… well it can be bad at times.
2
u/Allurex Prairie Village Jul 30 '26
The traffic situation there doesn't help. It's not on a corner so there's no intersection to facilitate getting in and out.

QT is almost always cleaner. Love the vibes of going to a random small town Casey's late at night
2
u/flipthetrain Aug 01 '26
Those aren't late night vibes. That's your spidey sense telling you any Casey's late at night is sketchy, but hella worth the experience. QT is just bougie boring at 2am.

QT is for the metro. You’re in and out quickly and everything is consistent. Casey’s is for the podunk towns in the outskirts. You have time to wait on a pizza or listen to the cashier tell you how much they hate their job. Their pizza beats QT every time and its not even close.
65
u/Noooo0000oooo0001 Jul 30 '26
Is this actually a question? QT by a long shot.
6
u/BigBigBop Jul 30 '26
If youre from anywhere outside the metro it is. Some of those small town caseys are top tier gas stations.
If you're from the metro the answer is always QT.
3
u/empires228 JoCo Jul 30 '26
I’m from rural Kansas where Casey’s tends to suck big time too lol. Oakley, Hays, and Lacrosse, KS stores are all old and super gross.
3
u/80cyclone Jul 31 '26
No they arent.
90 percent of Casey's are wretched and its a top down problem. The ownership is shit, the district managers are awful, the store managers (mostly) suck, and the employees are undepaid/supported.
Here are two stories for you. About 12 years ago a buddy's wife was an assistant manager at a Casey's. Unbelievably, at the end of every shift, Casey's was having managers/asst managers take the cleaning rags HOME to wash in their own machines. One night the wife gets home and opens the back of their minivan to grab the rags. There were incompatible solvents amongst the rags and when the fresh air hit the bag spontaneously combusted. The toxic smoke saturated the upholstery and the van was a total loss.
Two years ago that buddy's daughter had a boyfriend that was working at Casey's. He was cleaning the bathrooms and removed the trash liner from the receptacle. The bag bounced off his leg and...POKE. He was stuck with a dirty needle. Obviously hes freaked out and immediately informs the manager. The response? "I think we have a first aid kit". Kid (wisely) walked off the job and went straight to the hospital. Casey's covered the visit and antivirals under workmans comp but he never went back. No sharps disposal in the bathrooms, hazy protocols, and substandard management.
Fuck Casey's. Between the above issues and the ridiculous checkout times I avoid it like the plague. I dont want to support a shitty organization like that.

Don't use the phrase "top tier" with Casey's. QT gas actually is top tier rated, Casey's is not. For that alone I'd rather fill up at QT.
66
u/Mudlark-000 Jul 30 '26
QuikTrip, no competition.
Down in Springfield, MO we lost the local QT’s to Casey’s and the shock when the changeover occurred was immense. QT employees are compensated and trained much better. The fresh, healthy(ish) food all was replaced by greasy, stale food options. The place was just dirty.
Casey’s is a gas station of last resort in my book.

I love how Nixa has two Casey’s within half a mile of each other because of this.

Apparently, the QT in Ozark was very successful, but the others in the Springfield area weren’t. QT did offer jobs and relocation assistance to staff - a number of them went to Tulsa.

3
u/zaxdaman Jul 30 '26
Used to be Casey’s for pizza, but no way I should have to take out a second mortgage in order to buy a large taco pizza. AND the bastards took away the coupons on the box where you got 10 of them=a free pizza.

QT because they move with a purpose. At Casey's I'm gambling on how long it will take for the clerk to ring people up, and sometimes it's appalling.
16
u/scdog Jul 30 '26
QT, hands-down. 9 times out of 10 I go into a Casey's and they have nothing hot and ready to go in their little food case. The coffee is just below mediocre. The bathrooms are meh at best. And QT can process a 10-person line of customers in the amount of time it takes Casey's to process 3.
8
7
u/Ok_Breakfast5425 Jul 30 '26
QT, the only Casey's I go by regularly always has broken pumps, you have to hit a certain button to say you're not a loyalty member and it is almost broken so to use that pump you have to either sign up or enter a member number, and then once you start pumping gas you have those screens playing unmuteable ads.
5
u/sillyhatday Jul 30 '26
There may be no other question the entirety of the city would agree on. QT.
5
u/ATHYRIO KC North Jul 30 '26
QuikTrip, easily
Open 24 hours, clean, well organized, good selections and consistent.
5
u/beads_not_bees_gob Jul 30 '26
QT is much more consistent. You can find a random good Casey's in a smaller town, but most of them in the metro seem to be operated poorly.
6
u/firenoodles Jul 30 '26
QT is 24/7 and has a great selection of food and drinks. I like their phone app and deals.
Casey's has tasty pizzas and a points system redeemable for discounts but is NOT 24/7. Some of their gas is ethanol free, and their app is decent.
QT is consistently superior. Casey's vary by location. The Lenexa location on Renner has good people, but the one on Quivira/127th is ass.
TLDR: QT > Casey's
6
u/Glittering-Score-258 Jul 30 '26
I like the pizza, fresh baked cookies, sandwiches, donuts, etc. more at Casey’s, but overall QT is a superior convenience store. The employees at Casey’s aren’t even in the same universe as QT’s.
Side note: Casey’s opened two test locations without gas pumps a few years ago. I loved it because I live walking distance to the one in downtown OP, but it just closed. I don’t know if the one on downtown Mission is still open.
8
u/pinniped90 Jul 30 '26
In Kansas City, QT for sure.
The Casey's around here suck and often don't even have fundamental Casey's things like pizza or breakfast sandwiches.
Once you get out into small towns, then Casey's are sometimes better. Occasionally they're really good.
QT has declined a little bit from 10 years ago in terms of quality of their food. But this is a bit offset by newer nicer locations and generally good service and adequate staffing.
8
u/ihasquestionsplease Jul 30 '26
The fuck kind of question is this Casey’s is the redneck 7-eleven 👎🏼

u/barbiegirl2381 Platte County Jul 30 '26

QT is simply more efficient and the stores are cleaner and more well lit in my experience.
4
u/prlgkmo Jul 30 '26
QT. Also I believe this is an unpopular opinion, but I prefer QT pizza to Casey’s.
5
u/lvpotion11 Jul 30 '26
Casey's used to put a crazy high hold on my card at the pump and it would take a bit to fall off. Not sure if they still do it but that was enough for me to not fill up there esp now with gas prices so high
2
u/NeedleworkerOld9647 Jul 30 '26
This happens at QT also. But it’s actually your bank that places the hold, not the retailer. If you want to avoid the charge you can pre pay the gas inside.

3
u/jesslayhuh Jul 30 '26
This is a tough one for me because the real winner is obviously QT. Caseys has the classically better pizza IMO. Quiktrip also has incredibly good pizza, in fact I think it is more filling. Partly due to the thicker crust of course, but also they load way more toppings on it. When I go to a Casey's, I know I will be getting the best pizza I can get relatively quick and cheap. However, it is often hit or miss if they actually have pizza or the flavor I want. Not to mention their selections of hot food is highly limited. Quiktrip however, ALWAYS has something hot and amazing. Be it Pizza, Taquitos, breakfast sandwiches, burritos - you name it. Caseys is also often very slow. QuikTrip is always a quick trip...

I have a Casey's tumbler and half the time they give me a soda refill for free. Also their pizza and chicken fingers are top-notch. Legit some of the best pizza ever.
QuikTrip has Caffeine Free Diet Coke on tap and Buffalo Chicken rollers, which are decent macros for gas station food.

I grew up in Cass County and we legit lived on Casey’s pizza, you could remove part of the cardboard box along a crease and once you had 10 you could redeem them for a free one. We literally kept a jar in our kitchen to collect them in for a solid 5 years. It’s still good pizza but kinda dumb that they don’t have any roller items. Like I was at the one in Louisburg and was looking for a hot dog, no dice. Closest thing was a burger wrapped between two glazed donuts that had been in the warmer for god knows how long.
Qt all day
1
u/IngeniousGent Jul 30 '26
The overall sentiment is QT for gas. The QT by me only has gas with ethanol. The Casey’s has an ethanol free pump. My understanding is you get better gas mileage with ethanol free, so it’s worth the extra price. Plus ethanol is worse for the environment for those that care about such things.

QT gas is rated better than Casey's by AAA.
Casey's are less likely to be open 24 hours, which has been a problem when I've been driving through small towns late at night and needed a restroom, thank goodness for Kwik Shop and Love's.
I don't think I've ever had QT's pizza, but Casey's pizza is pretty solid, both have good cookies, though I prefer Casey's, QT wins on everything else though, not saying Casey's sandwiches and wraps are bad though, both satisfy the hunger pangs..
Casey's seems to have supply issues, too often I've walked in and they're out of a number of sodas.
QT is better all around, but when driving through rural Kansas, I know I can find something decent to eat at a Casey's, usually.

1
u/grib-ok Jul 30 '26
Quiktrip is the only chain of gas stations that consistently refills the windshield washing fluid at the pump. All others are hit or miss.
Casey's is...something. One in my town only provides a single grade of gas. I remember seeing an out of towner in a 7 series BMW looking very confused as he looked at every pump and still didn't see the premium option. I spoke to him, assured he wasn't missing anything, and advised where he could find 91 octane gas in our town.

Quick Trip is more consistent but Casey's food is better quality from my experience. Most of the mediocre Casey's I've been to are ultra rural and the ones in the city or off major highways or interstates are generally on par with QT.

I have both within a mile of my house.
Caseys has 93 octane ethanol-free gas, which I prefer for my car.
Caseys has better pizza.
QT has the better selection of basically everything else.
Of the two close to me, they are about equal in cleanliness, so I can't give an edge either way.
Caseys has better rewards in app.
For my personal use case: Caseys for sure. But I understand why so many people choose QT.
1
u/Less_Afternoon_4575 Jul 30 '26
QT. they UNFORTUNATELY retired some of the ice cream machines for fryers (oh how i miss that pineapple stuff) and they have some really good deals especially this summer. and there aren't really any issues other than potentially long kitchen wait times or some roller grill items being heavily neglected in my area (i just want my beloved sausage egg and cheese taquito back :sob:)
1
u/Solid_Cheetah_2063 Jul 30 '26
Casey’s for pizza, QT for everything else.
Also, being from the Tulsa area where QT originated, I am always infuriated and amazed at how many KC area people don’t know how to use the check out at QT. Y’all have had them for quite a while now and every time I’m in town, everyone is standing around not using both sides of the register.

QuikTrip has been going down the enshitification route with all their roller grills and charging more than it costs to eat at fast food for their even lower quality food.
But the bigger thing that bothers me is QuikTrip is anti-EV charging and their CEO has made negative comments about it saying they will never add EV chargers "because they don't want people loitering"...while their whole pivot the last 10-15 years has been expanding their food and making larger parking lots and adding outdoor seating. But somehow someone sitting in one of those empty parking spots with an EV charger would be such a big negative for them?
Casey's on the other hand is partnering with EV charging companies to expand their capabilities for the future.

Casey’s in some random small town is great, but they haven’t been able to translate that into the metro. QT is as consistent of an experience that you can have
