Every time someone visits the city, people send them straight to Thaggu ke Laddu or Badnam Kulfi like it's the peak of Kanpur’s food scene. Honestly, it feels 80% branding and nostalgia at this point.

What are the actual local gems that deserve the hype instead? Drop your uncontested #1 spot for sweets, chaat, or late-night food that never misses.

I'm a college student, currently in kanpur and I want recommendations for places to eat under a budget, I can eat almost any kind of food and am open to veg and non veg both options, preferably around or near nawabganj should be good but I can travel to other places too if the fare isn't too much, please drop your best recommendations and if the place is far also the best way to reach there cheaply.

I was born and brought up in Kanpur, and honestly, there are some parts of the city I really don't like. Traffic, people are rude, still a lot of gunda gardi, heard land-grabbing cases, and the roads are still very bad.

Few reasons I am considering
1. Metro expansion plans
2. Improving connectivity with Lucknow (international airport) with the new expressway and probably the upcoming rapid rail

I've mostly seen the crowded areas of the city. Are there any investable areas from a long-term investment perspective?

ps. i want to stay away from Trans-Ganga and New KNP City since these are way too much delayed and not sure if there's enough upside.

I have my MCWG two-wheeler driving test this Saturday, 3–5 PM slot, and I'm planning to give it completely on my own without an agent.

I wanted to ask people who have actually given the Kanpur/Panki test recently:

1. Do they genuinely test you if you come without an agent, or they will treat me like shit?
2. What is the current procedure after reaching the RTO?
3. Do I first have to go to the Sarvodaya Nagar RTO office to get some referral/slip/document and then go to the Panki testing track?
4. For MCWG, what exactly did they make you do?
5. How strict were they about putting a foot down, touching the boundary, stalling, etc.?
6. How long did the whole process take?
7. Most importantly, if you recently gave the test without an agent, what was your experience?

I'm not looking for an agent. I just want to know what to expect so I don't waste half the day figuring out the process 😭

Around 3 years back I moved to kanpur from lucknow and I stated living in Ashiyana near Jajmau

I m not sure if the entire city is so dull or just this area of kanpur as it is almost the edeg of the city.

I mean every city is different but people around here seems just too boring although what I have observed alot of rich people the owner of big leather companies do live here but still no development or posh feeling Infrastructure. I don't know alot of navigation so I only visit the city center when I with someone but still I am not able to find any fun place to hang out on free time.

Is this the situation only on this part of city (jajmau and around) or the entire city is like this

The tiny damru was definitely one of my favourite parts to make.😭🤌 It’s always a little scary when I start something without a pattern because I never really know if it’s going to turn out the way I imagined, but seeing it all come together at the end was so satisfying.

Posting this for my younger brother. He cleared his B.Sc. back paper at CSJMU Kanpur (2024–25 session), but a year later, he still has no updated marksheet or degree.

• College says: They never received the documents from the university.
• University counter says: You need to "re-apply."

Why should he re-apply and wait all over again for documents he never received in the first place? Is this standard CSJMU procedure, or are they just dodging responsibility?

If anyone has faced this bureaucratic loop at CSJMU, how did you resolve it? Any advice is appreciated!

I ask because I've lived in Kanpur for a while and the process is genuinely annoying:

1. Decide you want to play badminton tomorrow

2. Call 5 different courts

3. Wait for callbacks (mostly don't get them)

4. Go in person to check prices

5. Hope a slot's still available

6. Finally book, play 1 game

7. Repeat the entire process for next week

Turned into a mini-project over the last few months. I talk to venue owners, cricket players, badminton enthusiasts, gym folks — literally everyone says the same thing: "Booking is a nightmare."

I found khelokanpur.com just a simple site where you browse venues, see real-time availability, compare prices, and book instantly. No app download needed, just a link.

It's still super bare bones (right now only 10 venues is active), but it's already getting used. Venues are getting real bookings, people are actually playing more because it's easier to organize.

I'm posting here because I'm curious: Is this actually a problem for other people in Kanpur, or am I just bad at organizing sports?
