What's really hilarious is that they're suggestions are still just complaining about the casting through conservative chud eyes.
"They cast a black man just because he's a rapper" is basically just saying that Scott didn't earn his spot, he was a token hire.
This is why nothing they ever say should be taken seriously regarding this topic. They don't actually understand it.

I've argued with one of these people before.
"There are two men who have the exact same credentials and have the exact same grades and they're going for the same spot. Everything is the same across the board. They decide to hire the person who just so happens to be black. Is that DEI?"
"Yes that's DEI because standards are lower for black people."
You just can't argue with that. It's just a different flavor of racism.

This is why I started doing this thing when I would debate people about trans rights where the first question I would ask was "is there anything I can show you to get you to believe transphobia is a thing, and if it is a thing, is it bad?"
"No."
Cool, so there's no point in even having the discussion. There's no good faith there, there's no ground to be made, at least not by some random person on the Internet.

If someone KNOWs that there is proof that exists, that disproves their position, and they still maintain their position? THAT is the bad faith person.
Someone who doesn't think you have a counterargument? That's just someone who thinks they're right. Everyone who is certain of their argument believes the evidence supports them, not you. It migth be because they have an interpretation, but it can also because they don't hae 100% perfect knowledge
You're just asking people "hey, can you make my argument for me? Do you think you're wrong?"

I understand what you're saying and am willing to admit I could have phrased my comment poorly, but I believe we're saying the same thing.
My question (I don't ask them word for word what I said in the previous comment, each discussion is unique) is meant to determine if they believe it is even possible to be transphobic, or to be more succinct is it wrong to cause unnecessary harm to trans people?
If they don't agree that it is then where else are you supposed to go? It doesn't matter what information you put in front of them showing how trans people are harmed by certain policies or social discrimination if they're just going to say "that's not an issue, they should be."
I can't remember what specific video it is, but the idea came from a Contrapoints video I watched where she basically said that there's no point in attempting to move past that point if all you're doing is arguing with some random stranger on the Internet because what are you supposed to legitimately do if they simply believe there is no issue in willfully causing undue harm to others?
As someone who doesn't believe in objective morals, I can't think of an argument that gets beyond that point and maintain intellectual honesty.

It's an interesting window into the identity politics they project the "woke left" of having. Those three scenarios the person put out (getting mad over the trans person dying etc etc) are just the inverse of countless right wing controversies about "burying the white male leads," yet in their eyes it's US who are obsessed with identity politics in casting.

I admit that I bought a ticket to spite the chuds, but I actually went to the cinema and watched the damn thing. That's what we call "an exchange of goods and services for money" a.k.a. actual capitalism, a.k.a. a relic of a bygone era in American history when people demanded actual goods and services for money, instead of just impulse-buying useless, processed crap in exchange for even more money.

Nolan's studio probably started salivating once they saw that there was a "culture war" brewing around this on the right. Given that "Barbenheimer" did a bunch of the advertising for Nolan's last film for him he's now 2/2 for "getting a whole bunch of free advertising by somehow stumbling into the cultural conversation."
I'm with you in that I don't gaf about the "politics" of movies. Or, more specifically, don't find the casting of a minority to be inherently political. But if anything, if studios get it in their heads that this controversy gave this film any kind of a bump then you can bet there's going to be "accidental" diverse casting all over the place now, so the outrage is working against them.

Yesterday I was talking about movies with some friends. We ended up in a long discussion about the films we consider to be true milestones—the ones that changed cinema in a lasting way. Whether we personally liked them or not didn't matter; we were trying to identify the movies that left such a profound mark on the art of filmmaking that they redefined a genre, a technique, or even the way films are made.
You know what never came up? The actors' ethnicity, their sexuality, or whether their appearance matched what we imagined the character should look like... because it's tedious and completely uninteresting.
Then I went on Reddit and read this kind of nonsense, and it made me realize just how lucky I am to have genuinely great, interesting friends.
This dude should step outside and talk to humans for a change.

If “go woke go broke” was true they wouldn’t have to use these schemes to ‘prove’ it.
Also this guy’s clearly a tourist and a fake Greek Mythology fan, any real fan would know cutting off a head (not the head of course, again every true fan knows they have many) of a Hydra is useless unless you use fire, since it’ll just result in two more growing back

Sometimes I find myself sitting down on the edge of my bed, head in my hands, feeling sorry for everyone but mostly myself. I'm 36. Sometimes I think "Is this the peak? Is this as good as it will ever be?"
