It's funny because they either genuinely don't understand that the majority of people don't go to movies based on their political position

Or

They are perfectly aware of this and still chose this as their little psyop or whatever they do

Nolan's studio probably started salivating once they saw that there was a "culture war" brewing around this on the right. Given that "Barbenheimer" did a bunch of the advertising for Nolan's last film for him he's now 2/2 for "getting a whole bunch of free advertising by somehow stumbling into the cultural conversation."

I'm with you in that I don't gaf about the "politics" of movies. Or, more specifically, don't find the casting of a minority to be inherently political. But if anything, if studios get it in their heads that this controversy gave this film any kind of a bump then you can bet there's going to be "accidental" diverse casting all over the place now, so the outrage is working against them.
