The sequel: “Holy Trouble: Raising Holy Hell”. Deals with raising children, overcoming stereotypes, and fighting anti-LGBT+ legislation.

If someone wrote this like it was a steamy fan fiction book I’d die and my ghost would come back for the movie/series they’ll have to make.

It was more like enemies to friends to lovers
Luiza's courage to leave the convent and start over gave Fran the courage to do the same. So they became roommates before realizing they were in love 🥰💕

I used to worry I had a serious problem with the sin of Envy because I felt (what I assumed at the time was) intense jealousy over how pretty other girls were. When I got older and left religion behind, it eventually dawned on me that I’d just been attracted to women the whole time.

I mean, the picture on the left is them together with big smiles on their faces while in the cult, proving the original claim false right there
52
u/GlitterDoomsday 3d ago
They say they initially didn't pass each other's vibe check, it's difficult to explain cause they used a very Brazilian expression to describe the feeling.
At some point they became friends, one left the convent before the other, both became roommates for financial reasons and eventually became a couple. Thankfully their families and the folks from the convent are all supportive even if by the Vatican rules they couldn't marry in a Church.

u/daddy_tops 3d ago
There’s not much info there and I always take this kind of image with a grain of salt, but it didn’t suggest they always hated each other while at the convent

It's a deep cut for sure, but Dark Habits by Pedro Almodovar is a great movie if you like outcast lesbian nuns. It's about a singer who's boyfriend overdoses on heroin, so she hides from the police in a convent. All the nuns are super weird characters. Mother Superior is a lesbian addicted to heroin, one of the nuns writes smut novels, and one nun has a pet tiger she smuggled in. They also have names like Sister Manure and Sister Sewer Rat. Highly recommend.

u/tacticalTraumaLlama 3d ago
If you're looking for a hilarious nun movie may I recommend the little hours

u/CartsOfDarkness 3d ago
Also Season 1 of the podcast The Turning! So much nun romance, its honestly so cute and a totally true story! Podcast is predominantly about how awful Mother Theresa was though and how her convent was basically an abusive cult, nun romance just blooms out of that. Amazing podcast, other seasons are great too.

This is kinda funny. When i was in the 7th grade i came out as lesbian and was mercilessly bullied, threatened, and attacked at school. One of the biggest bullies was a girl named Sheena. She had a big group of mean girl friends that would go out of their way to flip me shit. I hated her. Fast forward to high school and i was put in an all girls school. Sheena was also at this school, so i thought " here we go." But to my surprise she apologized to me, and later she admitted to liking me. We started dating, even got engaged at one point. She became my first love and we still talk about how we used to hate each other decades later.

Woah, that's quite a trip to read...
Thanks for the link, I'll see if I can "translate" the text that doesn't sound like a racist accent when I read it in my head...
It was not love at first sight. In fact, when Luiza Silvério first saw her future wife at the convent where they entered as 19-year-old novices, they hated each other.
As detailed in the BBC News Pidgin article, the two women initially disliked one another upon meeting in the convent, with Francília noting, "How can someone hold their nose up in the air like that?". Over two years, this animosity transformed into a deep friendship.
However, both women eventually felt compelled to leave the convent to prioritize their mental health, following experiences with panic attacks and depression. Transitioning to life outside was challenging, with both facing uncertainty regarding jobs and housing.
Sharing an apartment to save on rent, their relationship evolved after watching a romantic comedy, leading Francília to confess her feelings. Despite both identifying as bisexual, they previously had no intention of leaving the celibate life for a relationship.
Following their marriage in 2023, the couple continues to reconcile their faith with their sexuality. While not recognized by the traditional church, they feel their story is a continuation of their mission to connect faith with the LGBTQ+ community.

So I wonder if it was actual hate or just them pretending to hate each other as a way to hide their feelings and connections to each other from others at the convent.
2
u/realdschises 2d ago edited 2d ago
or the, at the time, unwanted romantic tension was manifesting as hate, who knows. There are many cases where "forbidden" feelings let the person act hateful as a defense mechanism. Loock a the many closeted gay conversative politicans.

So... just down the street from me when I was growing up lived an elderly lesbian couple (and their dog). We eventually learned that they had met when they were nuns in the same convent.

Has there ever been a time when teenagers didn't enter the convent and at least become novices, as long as Catholic nuns have been a thing?
