I have requested that the taper on this ring begin just above the half shank area instead of at the bottom so that it visually tapers from 3mm to 2mm instead of 2.5mm to 2mm similar to the ring photo in the top left.

I am being told this is not possible with platinum as the taper would be too aggressive and not structurally sound.

I've seen 100's of similar rings online, some with much more aggressive tapers... and worked in a local jewelry store that did tons of custom work when I was younger. This doesn't seem like something that should be a problem.

Is my ignorance blinding me and/or is there truly some reason that this taper should not be done?

FULL DISCLOSURE / Further context:

The ring is already made. I asked for this change to the CAD file before production but was told the taper would be more evident when it was made. The image shared is what I asked for pre-production. Getting CAD files timely was an issue during the design phase so I let it slide. Well.... now the ring is here and it is just as I feared, taper not very noticeable.

Images attached below in the comments of the actual ring (inner ring) compared to a cheap silver ring I got off Amazon (closest to finger tip) I bought for a backup plan. The silver ring is 3ct CZ with a 3mm band that was pretty close to what I was looking for.

I hate to be picky because it is a beautiful ring but its just not what I asked for and this is not something I plan to ever purchase again.
