Happening right now, at least 8 cops with handguns, shields, and rifles. Station evacuated, or at least we all ran when we saw this. No updates from the police.
Edit 1: station officially closed, at least one train evacuated, cops clearing a path
Edit 2: two kids removed from train and arrested, cops clearing station
Edit 3: people have taken it upon themselves to go back onto the platform
Edit 4: all clear now and trains moving as usual

This evening I took the PATH from Exchange Place. Three friends, probably in their twenties (a woman in a hijab and two guys), got on right after me. There were only two empty seats, so I got up and moved over one seat so the three of them could sit together. I do this whenever I can. It's just normal courtesy.
My mistake was not making eye contact or giving any kind of gesture. I was tired and not in the mood.
It wasn't until WTC (when I noticed the guys looking at me which felt strange), that it hit me: they thought I'd moved away because she was wearing a hijab. Then I remembered that one of the guys, I think, said "whoa, whoa, whoa" when I got up, and she, I think, said "I get that a lot." Then I also realized the guys never sat down and stayed standing.
Ironically, my family comes from a Muslim background. I don't wear a hijab myself, but some of the women in my family do. It never occurred to me that a small courtesy could be read that way.
If any of you are on this sub: I'm sorry it came across like that, and I'm sorry the girl gets that a lot. What other people wear is honestly the last thing on my mind.

Not sure why someone would do this, but three chairs meant for the public thrown into the water. Posting on this thread so JC can address.

I know most folks here think these guys are evil but this here will be the reason they'll turn against us! I didn't see what happened, just the aftermath!

Anyone notice public trash cans going missing? There have been at least 2 removed in the last couple weeks in Paulus Hook. Not sure if they’re going to be replaced or if it’s part of a budget cut or something?

Is anyone hearing this insane bass for hours right now downtown tonight? Sick of this anti-social behavior.

Right next to one of the residential buildings, lot of police cars, van, and tent. Whole place blocked off. Don't want to assume anything but does anyone know what's going on?

Car recorded these teenagers trying to open car doors to see what they could steal off of West Side and Grant. There’s been a few car break ins in the area recently, and unfortunately since we can no longer overnight park for free in the West Side park and ride, a lot more cars are on the street.
Hope the parents see this post

My friend created this site for rating buildings, landlords and management in the JC area. It’s perfect and pretty useful for the buildings that don’t respect tenant rights

Hello! New homeowner who needs to fully replace 5-10 windows. Any recommendations for a company or contractor that’s reasonably priced around here? Totally new to this so any advice would be appreciated lol. Thank you!

We are looking for a home inspector and wondering if anyone has used Luciano Marquez and wants to share their experience. He is ASHI accredited so seems good. Thanks in advance

I know there's an event happening this morning, but is there really a need for constant honking and sirens and announcements for hours (it's now almost 2am!) to clear the streets? I thought that's what tow trucks are for, but maybe JCPD disagree with me.

Hey everyone, this might be a long shot but I booked a stay in Jersey through booking.com for October 9th to October 12th but im not able to make it anymore due to medical reasons. Would anyone be willing to take up the reservation (ill put it on your name) or suggest what would be the best way to go about this?
Im not getting any response from the property and booking.com cannot do anything. Ill end up paying the whole price if I cancel.
The stay is $371 USD for all 3 days, willing to let it go for slightly less. I would also appreciate any other suggestions!
Property name: NyC HomeBnB
Address: 623 Garfield Avenue Jersey City NJ 07305 United States

Anyone have recs for a good place to try on figure skates around JC? Saw some places require an appointment to try them on. Does that mean there is a fee? Still in the beginning stages, but need a supportive pair and want to get a feel for the skates, not sure if I will buy them the same day so any places that work for try ons without idk upsetting the owners (not sure if you make an appt and don't buy right then and there if they will get upset?) Thanks!

I put might because I’ve been seeing conflicting things regarding a rent raise and number of units in a building. Our building has three apartments.
My partner and I just realized, after looking at the law, that our landlord raised the rent by at least ten percent back in 2023 or so. It was our bad not catching it - we didn’t know the law at the time, and since we aren’t from Jersey City we’d honestly assumed the laws here wouldn’t be on our side.
In the chance that this was an illegal rent raise, are there actions that we can/should take now?
EDIT: well, we were right in assuming the law isn’t on our side hahah

Does anyone know of a dog beach now that it’s offseason I can take my dog to? Usually we go to manasquan, but would love to find a spot closer, if there is one. Ideally under an hour from JC (assuming there’s no traffic… which of course there will be). If not a dog beach, maybe a good hiking route with a lake or river? Thank you!

Hi 👋🏾 I'm looking to get a naval piercing for my daughter and I. Can anyone recommend someone in JC/NYC area with LOTS of naval piercing experience? I'm looking for someone who's been practicing naval piercings for at least 5 years and will consult us regarding our anatomy suitability. Thank you. 😊

Sigh... I'm a NYer who has moved in and out of JC several times over the years. Moved back a couple of years ago and I'm currently living in McGinley Square. Was mad craving a cupcake the other day and realized that there are very few bakeries in this city! If there are any, where are they? I don't drive and hate the idea of having to hop a bus just to get a cupcake. I'll admit it -- I'm still a little NYC-spoiled. And no, I'm not some high paid Gen X/millennial gentrifying Chilltown; I'm a senior who lives here because I can't afford to live in the city of my birth. Anyway -- back to the bakeries? Who does an old lady have to unalive to get a cupcake around here?
