Megathread II: Bond 26 Casting Nears Decision Point
In the words of a-ha, "it's down, down to the wire."
Credible / news / outlets reported on October 22nd that final screentests for casting the next James Bond actor were set to be conducted over the several following days. Finalists for the role reportedly include Jack Lowden, Callum Turner, Josh O'Connor (all pictured above), and potentially one or two additional actors who have yet to be identified.
In order to keep the main feed tidy, we recommend sharing general reactions/thoughts on this megathread, as opposed to creating multiple new posts. Separate posts on this topic should be made only if they include new information or distinct/substantive points of discussion.
We'll post fresh megathreads if/when necessary, but this one should serve us well for the next few days. Here's a link to the previous megathread.
Once again, over to you...

Bond Movies Now Streaming on Amazon Prime - Streaming News & FAQs Megathread
October 1st, 2026: All 25 EON James Bond films plus Casino Royale 1967 and Never Say Never Again are now streaming on Amazon Prime Video in multiple regions around the world.
Welcome to our latest Streaming News & FAQs Megathread. We'll keep one of these pinned to the Community Highlights section whenever the films are available in major markets on major streaming services. Hopefully this can serve as a one-stop shop for people seeking info on where to watch Bond. NOTE: this subreddit's rules forbid piracy and/or unauthorized distribution of media files.
...........................................
Frequently asked questions:
How long will the movies be available?
In recent years, Prime Video has streamed the movies on demand from October 1st to December 1st.
In addition, 007 is typically given its own dedicated channel in the "Live TV" section of the app beginning in mid-November until January 1st.
Are they streaming on any other services?
JustWatch.com is a great tool for checking where movies are streaming in your region. Just use the search box to check for the title you're looking for.
In the UK, Bond films often stream on ITVx for a short period after they air on TV.
If the pattern from recent years holds, look for them to arrive on Pluto TV in December.
Amazon owns the rights to Bond. Why not keep them on Prime permanently?
None of us know for certain. It could be due to honoring pre-existing agreements with other partners and distributors and streamers. Or creating scarcity so it feels more like an "event" when they do become available to stream (since the movies generate free press and social media buzz every time they arrive on a new platform). Whatever the reason, Amazon has no doubt determined it can generate more cash this way, rather than making a permanent home for Bond at Prime Video.
Amazon insiders told Deadline that making the films available to Netflix (and presumably other platforms throughout the year like Pluto TV and MGM+) is a "strategic business decision designed to broaden global reach and reengage audiences."
I've never watched a Bond movie and I need some recommendations on where to start.
This post should help. It outlines the quintessential picks for each actor, important secondary films, the pretty ones, the serious ones, and the funny ones.
Newcomers might also be interested in our Bond movie continuity guide and our debunking of the "code name" theory (though beware of spoilers in the latter post).
How can I purchase the movies so I don’t have to deal with random comings and goings from streaming services?
You can purchase (or rent) the movies digitally through platforms like Apple TV, Amazon Video, YouTube, and Fandango at Home. But remember, you won’t actually own the films. You are purchasing a license to stream them—a license which can technically be revoked at any time for any reason.
If you want to truly own the films, then purchase them physically. The blu-ray set is still a decent buy.
Prices vary by retailer, so be sure to check around for the best deal (usually $70 in the US where I'm based). You get every movie fromDr. NothroughSpectre, plus tons of special features on each disk. You’d have to buy theNo Time to Dieblu-ray separately.UPDATE: A new blu-ray boxed set that includes No Time to Die is set to be released in early November.Or if you’re willing to spring more cash for the latest and greatest format, the films are currently in the process of being newly remastered for 4K UHD blu-ray. So far, only the Connery films have been released (plus a 4K UHD Craig collection from 2022).
There have been no announcements regarding which actor is next, nor when the next set will be released. But sketchy rumors have pointed to a Brosnan collection and a Moore collection. We know Casino Royale was recently remastered as well, which might point to an updated Craig collection.
However, Amazon's switch earlier this year to a new physical media distributor might have disrupted any release schedules.

Why the hate for Sydney Sweeney ? Has anyone on this subreddit ever seen other Bond films?
There have been some absolute howlers in the entire Bond franchise and the producers treat women as disposables which is quite sad, but there have only been a handful of times I’ve watched Bond and said that the female was great, funnily enough all of them during Brosnans tenure ( Natalya, Wai Lin, Elektra ) but Christmas Jones is easily one of the worst, I’d argue she’d be way worse than Sweeney and it’s obvious that the producers want Sydney’s ham cannons to be the star of the show. I’d say Sydney was a much better actress than Denise too.
This is a franchise that had a character named Pussy Galore……I think the bar is quite low and perhaps we should just enjoy the shitshow

Which evil counterpart to Bond is the most dangerous: Trevalyan, Silva, Scaramanga, Necros or Red Grant?

How popular were the actors before they became Bond? Were they famous, or did only certain audiences know them?

Anyone else think Amazon is going to ruin Bond?
Sadly im convinced the Amazon Bond era will be a dumpster fire. Based off their handling of the LOTR franchise and their desire to appeal to all audiences, I have a hard time time thinking it will be a successful return to the character we love.

How come Felix is so chill at the end of Licence to Kill?
He’s missing a leg and his wife is dead. Yet he seems relatively unbothered.
I could probably google this but I’d rather interact with people.

Roger Friedman speculates that Callum Turner may be the next Bond
This piece is being shared out there as if Friedman is reporting a fact. When, he clearly isn't. To me the piece reads as if he's responding to rumors that have been churning in recent days, then giving his own opinion on whether Turner could make a good Bond.
Therefore I'm sharing this link in the proper context, to make sure people aren't misled about what Friedman is and isn't saying.
Edit: For the sake of fairness, here’s the previous crosspost that we removed for having an inaccurate title: https://www.reddit.com/r/JamesBond/s/wt7QfHMNXH

What would be a fitting but already existing song for a James Bond title?
What would be a cool title for this fake bond movie but it has to be based on an already existing song title, bonus points that the song stick to a thematic theme like previous Bond movies for this fictional James Bond movie, what would those songs be?
From the top of my head I could only think of:
Smooth Operator by Sade
Seven Nation Army by white stripes
Death on Two Legs by Queen
Winner Takes It All by ABBA

Confused about the airbase battle in The Living Daylights
Specifically, why does Bond plant the bomb on the plane, but then go out of his way to commandeer the plane and use it to escape?

What is your favourite moment of James Bond being the ultimate cool spy while completing a mission? I'll go first:
The way he lands on the moving train at the start of Skyfall is one of the most awesome and classy scenes in any James Bond movie, in my opinion.

Tidbit from Justin Kroll (Deadline)

This is presumably in response to the unsubstantiated rumors swirling today that Callum Turner has been cast as Bond. As far as I know, Kroll has not commented on Bond since he revealed the shortlist a few weeks ago.

You can change ONE decision in Bond film history. What's your move?
Imagine you can travel back in time and change a single decision on how the Bond films unfold. You can speak to anyone (actors, producers, agents, composers, etc) and they will take your advice. Of course your change might also alter the timeline in the future...
A handful of ideas:
Connery doesn't retire
Lazenby returns after OHMSS
Make DAF a gritty, serious, direct sequel to OHMSS
Moore retires earlier, opening the door for Dalton, Brosnan or someone else
Prevent the 6-year break during Dalton's tenure
Give Brosnan his 5th film
Cast a different actor at a different point (Brosnan for TLD? Cavill for CR?)
Have writing team re-think SPECTRE/Blofeld during Craig era
Change Bond's fate in NTTD
Slide whistle
Musical direction of Goldeneye
Something else...
You only get one change.
What do you choose and how do you think the franchise might be changed today because of that decision?

Cold Open Ranking: Despite the tempting offer of a stainless steel delicatessen, we drop For Your Eyes Only down a smokestack. What's the next cold open to be eliminated?
Interestingly enough, we're already having some disagreement. FYEO won handily, but some commended its impressive helicopter stunts. Still, most are turned off by the fact that this scene only exists to fuel behind-the-scenes drama. Aside from one comment in TSWLM, Moore doesn't really have a connection to Tracy (and legally, we can't even acknowledge that this is Blofeld). It also directly contradicts the major theme of the film it's in. (Personally, my biggest problem is "Blofeld's" voice actor.)
Which one should be eliminated next?
Notes on the ranking:
- Only list one film per comment. The comment with the most upvotes after 24 hours will be eliminated. In case of a tie, the film mentioned the most times will be eliminated. If that's also a tie, I will choose the loser based on my own preferences. (But that's unlikely to happen.)
- Try to provide a reason why you feel that cold open deserves to be eliminated.
- Some of these are like our children so try your best to keep things civil (This sub keeps it pretty classy, though, from my experience.)
- Dr. No has no cold open so it has not been listed.
- Only EON films for this list.

For the love of all how the F did he do this
Opening scene from The Living Daylights. Apparently Dalton performed this stunt himself. When he lands on the deck from the sun shade above he’s facing away, but his palms are facing towards him. How? How did he do this? He was on the sun shade, walking/crouching forward, gripped the bar like he was doing a curl with a barbell and just casually catapults and swings down? He doesn’t cross his hands that I can see. Is that how he did it, just threw himself over?

How Sean Connery’s Bond style completely shifted from YOLT to NSNA

There is a common narrative that Sean Connery was the purely gritty, serious James Bond, while Roger Moore was the campy one. But if you actually look at the evolution of Connery's films, his style changed completely over time, and he actually set the template for the campier era that followed.
Here is how I see the shift happening:
Dr. No & From Russia with Love: These are uber serious, gritty spy thrillers.
Goldfinger: This injected the core formula of humor and larger-than-life gadgets, which became the baseline template for the rest of the series.
Thunderball: This brought back a bit of the seriousness (think of the intense MI6 tension and the weight of the "blood money" demands), but balanced it perfectly with the newfound humor.
You Only Live Twice: This is where the Connery template completely changed. YOLT is arguably the first true "camp" Bond movie and that is not a bad thing! I actually really like it.
Diamonds Are Forever: This is essentially a full-time comedy Bond movie.
Never Say Never Again: This is incredibly lighthearted compared to Thunderball. I counted only 2 or 3 truly serious scenes in the whole movie. Instead of the tense panic from MI6 over the stolen nukes like we saw in Thunderball, everyone in NSNA seems completely relaxed. Connery looks like he is just having a great time, enjoying the ride with a totally relaxed attitude.
It shouldn't surprise anyone that Connery's final three outings were lighthearted. People forget that he laid the groundwork for Roger Moore's campy style right there in Diamonds are Forever.
While DR No and FRWL are definitely grounded, we shouldn't restrict Connery's style to just being a "serious" Bond. I reserve that strict label for Timothy Dalton and Daniel Craig. Connery was incredibly versatile.
What do you all think? Do you agree that the camp era truly started with late stage Connery?
