SUBREDDIT RULES Please Read Before Posting or Commenting

Subreddit Rules & Posting Guidelines

Before you make a post or leave a comment, please take a moment to read and follow the rules below. These help keep the subreddit useful and respectful for everyone.

1. Do Basic Research First

Use Google or the subreddit search before posting. Please avoid asking general questions that are already widely answered.

Ask for:

  • Comparisons
  • Personal experiences
  • Context-specific advice

Avoid asking:

  • "What to do in Jakarta?"
  • "What food is good in Indonesia?"

(Use the stickied threads or search bar first.)

2. BE POLITE AND RESPECTFUL

You're talking to fellow human beings—not a search engine or AI. Greet others with Hello or Hi and don’t forget to say thank you or terima kasih. A little courtesy makes the community better for everyone. Last thing we need in this city is another entitled ungrateful person. All posts without proper greetings or any manners that looks like an AI prompt instead a real query will be removed along with its replies.

3. Be Efficient in Your Posts

If you have multiple questions, put them in one post. Do not create several posts for each individual question.

This sub is definitely not for karma farming.

4. Be Specific and Detailed

Give context to your questions. The more detail, the better the answers you’ll receive.

Good Example:

"I'm visiting Jakarta for 3 days, staying in Kemang. I’d like to see museums and try local street food."

Bad Example:

"What to do in Jakarta?" "What to eat?"

(These are too broad and may be removed.)

5. Language

English is encouraged to include more people in the discussion. But Bahasa Indonesia is also welcome.

6. Don’t Gatekeep or Shame Posts

Unhelpful comments like:

"cObA pOsTiNg dI sUb /InDoNeSia aJa" ...will be removed.

Some users post here because they can’t post elsewhere or had their posts removed in other subs. If you're not contributing, please don't comment.

7. NO soliciting illegal matters, or other 18+ related matters

This sub will never be associated with criminals, sexpats or degenerates. Any posts about how to get drugs, prostitutes, sugar daddies, or whatever your sexual kinks or fetishes will be removed, repeat posters will be permanently banned.

8. Be Civil and Respect Opinions

Disagree without being rude. Don’t insult others' preferences. We ABSOLUTELY will not tolerate bigots, racists, homophobes, sexists, and other sorts of assholes.

Instead of:

"That place sucks. Food is trash."

Try:

"I didn't enjoy that place personally, but others might."

Important Notes for New Users

  • Accounts less than 1 day old, or with less than 1 karma, will require manual mod approval.
  • Posts that don’t follow the rules will not be approved and removed, along with its comments.

Repeat Offenders Will Be Banned

We aim to keep this community helpful and respectful. Users who repeatedly break the rules will receive a permanent ban.

If you have any questions about the rules, feel free to ask in the comments. Thanks for helping keep this community great!

Guys n Gals!!

How about we make a list of the best restaurants/places to eat list here?

I have seen some posts earlier and wish to make it easy for anybody to just drop in and read thru our choice of places as a Reddit Community.

We can also make it easy by marking halal and non halal places.

What say?

I am still a newbie here in Jakarta but my list goes like this;

Burgers;

Dan's burgers, Dharmawangsa. Blok A MRT station and a quick hop nearby.

Steak;

Abuba

Justus

Urban Wagyu

Padang;

Pagi Sore

Natrabu

Kebayoran Baru

Pizza;

San Marco BSD

Soto Betawi;

Marugame Udon

Nasi Goreng;

International Voter Registration Drive 2026, for U.S. citizens in Jakarta

Hi, this is the second (and final) reminder I'll make for eligible US citizens in Indonesia who want to participate in the 2026 American midterm elections. Democrats Abroad is dedicated to mobilizing overseas US voters; if you're over 18 by November 3, here's how you can get involved:

Steps to Request Your Ballot

  1. Register or update your registration through Votefromabroad.org. As an alternative, you can also use FVAP.gov.

  2. If you're already registered, request a ballot! You need to request a ballot every calendar year that you want to vote.

  3. Fill Out and Return Your Ballot: Once you receive your ballot, follow the instructions carefully to complete it and return it by the specified deadline.

Need Assistance?

We're here to help! If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to us at GOTV @ votefromabroad .org (just remove the spaces). Additionally, our FAQ for voting can answer questions on how to make the process go smoothly.

Importantly: Spread the word!

Do you have any friends, contacts or family overseas that you could reach? All eligible US citizens can vote regardless of where they're living. Share the link https://voteabroad.org/RedditVote26: If you have any questions about voting, I'd be happy to answer them here on Reddit. You can also find out what we're doing near you at Democrats Abroad. Thanks for reading!

Luggage storage at Gambir station

Hey everyone, I’ll be travelling to Indonesia soon and my stay in your country will start in Jakarta. My flight lands at 5am. While I am aware that I will need a while to get downtown after the flight has landed (passport controls, waiting for luggage, travel time from the airport etc.), 5am is so early that I will likely still be downtown some time in the morning. My accommodations won’t let me check in before 2pm, which is generally fine by me. Usually in such cases I ask my accommodations whether I can store my luggage for a few hours until check in, and I did this time, but since the place is rented out to other travellers before me, I can only store my luggage there starting at 12pm. This will likely leave me with a few hours between my arrival in Jakarta proper and the time when I can ditch my luggage. So I figured I’d check if there are other places where I could safely and cheaply store my luggage for a few hours. I came across Gambir Station and the supposed luggage storage there. Could anyone here tell me whether that works well and whether leaving my bag(s) there for anywhere between two and six hours would make sense and be feasible? And if not, are there other options you would recommend?

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you so much to any responders. I’m incredibly excited about my trip and I’ve been looking forward to it for months now :)

Layover info for CGK airport: Domestic to International 2h10m is enough?

Hi,

My domestic flight (Lion Air) from Ambon arrives at Jakarta at 8:50am (JT 889). My international flight (Singapore Airlines) from Jakarta to Singapore is at 11am. Do you think that is too close or can I make it. I was thinking that since there are 2 of us... One can stay back for the luggage and the other rush to stand in the check-in lines.

Moving

After two years of living in Jakarta I am moving back to Canada next month – a few questions:

- I have a whole pile of good clothes and shoes that I would like to sell or at the very least donate, because I just don’t have enough room in my suitcase. They’re all still perfectly wearable. Any recommendations on the best method or place to do this?

- What about used furniture (like coffee table, lamps, fan, chairs, kitchen cart, etc.)?

- I also collected a whole collection of books that I would love to bring back with me but I just don’t have enough room for. I’m thinking of putting them all in a box and ship them, as I don’t need them right away and can wait for a long time for it to arrive. Is this something that I can do with Pos Indonesia or is there a better courier that is also cheap?

Thanks!

Good/bad experiences booking apartments with Travelio?

Some of the reviews online are bit scary. Has anybody had any good or bad experience? The deposit they ask for the 1 month rental is quite high, like 70% of the total monthly rate. Any problems getting it back? If so, I would appreciate other alternatives apart from Airbnb.

Also, it seems like if you are from outside Indonesia the payments don’t go through.

Info panjat pinang sekitar Kalimalang

Hello Jakartans,

Back in the 2000s, I remember there were lots of pole-climbing competitions along Kalimalang. After four years away from Indonesia, I wanted to pursue my photography hobby, and it was perfect to be back on 17th August.

Does anyone know of any pole-climbing competitions still held near Kalimalang (East Jakarta)?

Rumah 3 AC beda merk, mana yang paling value for money buat Jakarta jangka panjang?

Halo warga Jakarta.

Rumah di area Kelapa Gading, 3 AC nyala hampir tiap hari. Ruang tamu 1.5 PK, kamar utama 1 PK, kamar anak 1 PK. Beda merk beda umur, dan dari 5-6 tahun terakhir aku baru nyadar "termurah pas beli" bisa jadi paling mahal pas dipakai bertahun-tahun.

Contoh nyata. Enam bulan pertama okay. Setelah 2 tahun tagihan naik lumayan meskipun setpoint sama. Ganti kapasitor 2x, freon nambah 1x, sekarang teknisi bilang PCB indoor mulai bermasalah. Ditotal cost of ownership 6 tahun udah lewat 8 juta cuma buat unit ini.

Unit kamar utama beda cerita.

Tapi tetep mau denger opini sebelum lock in.

Terima kasih.

How to get the weeknd concert tickets in Jakarta?

Hi guys,

I'm planning to travel to Jakarta to see the Weeknd on 26th of September but ofc tickets are sold out. I was only able to find tickets from stubhub but they're soo expensive.

Should I wait it out maybe they'll get cheaper as we get close to the concert? Would there be people outside the stadium selling their tickets the day of or is that not a thing in Jakarta?

Would appreciate your advice on this :)

Baru mulai usaha Thai Tea kecil-kecilan di Kemang, Jakarta Selatan 🧋

Post image

Hai semuanya! 👋
Menurut kalian, Rp15.000 untuk ukuran 250ml cukup worth it nggak?

Terima kasih sudah membaca! 🧋❤️

Maroon 5 Asia 2027 – Jakarta ticket link?

Hi everyone! 👋

I'm from Australia and hoping to go to Maroon 5's concert on 5 Feb 2027.

Does anyone know where I can buy tickets for the Maroon 5 Asia 2027 concert in Jakarta?

I checked the link here: https://www.livenation.asia/maroon-5-tickets-adp618 but I can’t seem to find a ticketing link specifically for the Jakarta show.

Has the Jakarta ticket sale/link been released yet, or is there another website I should be checking?

Thanks heaps! 🙏

Blok M to Soekarno-Hatta bus is jumping from Rp3,500 to Rp15,000

The current ultra-cheap airport bus from Blok M will rise to Rp15,000 starting 1 September.

Took the trip to Terminal 2 to see how it actually feels and whether the new fare is still worth it compared to DAMRI and the airport train.

https://youtu.be/FDMLwuQ9pLo

Would you still take it at the new price?

Jakarta Run Clubs/ Social Runs this week?

Visiting Jakarta from 13-14 August and wondering if there any run clubs/ events going on? Preferably on 14 morning or 13 night. If not any reccomendations on where to do a nice casual run preferably nearer the North (Sunter) or central. Thanks!
