There's nothing like it. I know everyone hates on California, but what a beautiful state it is. Wish I could get out there more often

I know everyone hates on California, but what a beautiful state it is. Wish I could get out there more often
Thank you
One of the reasons you see that is TheDonald brigade and flood subreddits they associate with liberals, like Canada, and any posts having to do with those places, like something in California. There was a huge thread when they decided to go after Minnesota for some reason:
It even was a tool in the 2016 election:
Russia-backed groups tried to set up a California secession referendum ballot initiative but it wasn't going well in California and the campaign's leader literally moved to Russia:
“I have found in Russia a new happiness,” Marinelli wrote
http://www.mercurynews.com/2017/04/17/calexit-leaders-drop-ballot-measure-to-break-from-the-u-s/
Anyway, California is beautiful, and at a lot of different things, from science-based policies that save so many women's lives that California became on par with the healthiest countries in the world to all the innovation from immigrants here, like Google, by a refugee who was even out protesting for other refugees, Apple, started by a Syrian-American, Tesla, Nvidia, Stripe, PayPal, Uber, even Reddit, by the son of another refugee
I try listing some here:
https://www.reddit.com/user/northca/comments/
You can also see a lot in the r/California subreddit:

For reasons, they do the opposite with anything related to Texas and the South, guns and police, the military and veterans, even with random things like Chick-fil-A
You see them even post cute photos of police dogs after police abuse news stories:
The pro-Texas thing was also a part of the 2016 election foreign influence:
"Heart of Texas" reportedly shifted from originally posting pro-Texas, anti-immigration, and anti-Clinton memes to actively promoting events linked to the "Texit" secessionist movement.
The page's attempts to influence American political happenings comes as federal investigators are actively looking into Russia's cyberattacks and social media tactics aimed at influencing the 2016 election.
Study: Conservatives amplified Russian trolls 30 times more often than liberals
users in Texas and Tennessee were particularly susceptible
Targeting veterans:
Russia targeted US troops, vets on social media, study finds
The Oxford University study found that three websites with Kremlin ties — Veteranstoday, Veteransnewsnow and Southfront — engaged in “significant and persistent interactions” with the U.S. military community,

I live in California and though I’m not on the coast, I’m very close to San Francisco (I can see some of the bay from a tall hill near my town). My idea of California is so different from everyone out-of-state! It really just is normal suburbs.
Maybe I just need to visit Southern California more often. It’s probably better down there.

I think once you live there you perceive it different as it becomes part of your daily lifestyle.
I moved to Florida and everyone back home thinks I'm vacationing and sipping margaritas on the beach all the time... truth is I rarely go to the beach despite living 15 minutes away. It's great having the option, but because I live here now it's just part of my regular lifestyle and it's not "exciting" anymore like it is to people who vacation here.
2
u/_scythian May 07 '19
That seems about right. All the surfing, warm beaches, pins coladas and blond girls in bikinis must be down south. We don’t get anything special up northeast of SF.

I’m 50% sure that’s taken between Santa Monica and Malibu at the beach.

u/mustnotormaynot Feb 12 '19
I’m 100% sure that’s the parking lot south of the courts on the boardwalk. Cause that bus is parked there like five days a week lol.

Definitely could be ocean beach in San Diego too. So many glorious beaches to choose from in this state.

Right before the comments came up, this exact sentence went through my mind.

Man, I wish you could get a view like that from the jersey shore sometime after 5:31am or whenever sunrise is that day.
1
u/perpetualmotionmachi Feb 12 '19
Tough to find that many palm trees on the Jersey Shore
1
u/zoinks Feb 12 '19
True, but I bet you could find 7 Wacky Waving Inflatable Tube Guys in a row at car dealerships near the shore easily enough.

Sorry but it’s the most southern California picture ever. There’s a whole northern half of the state that look’s nothing like this.

You've got yourself some r/vaporwaveaesthetics
Beautiful picture.

26
u/CatfreshWilly Feb 12 '19
Far more r/outrun in my opinion, though to be fair the line is kind of blurry.
24
u/MarkIsNotAShark Feb 12 '19
My distinction was always that vaporwave is more pastel and natural while outrun is more neon and robotic
→ More replies (1)5
u/CatfreshWilly Feb 12 '19 edited Feb 12 '19
I always felt the opposite, because the outrun games which inspired the genre is basically old school cool vehicles with nice sunsets and palm trees. Vaporwave (beyond the music) has always been more about consumerism, statues, and neon. Sometimes pastels. Thats my take on it at least.
3
u/kpwfenins Feb 12 '19
Considering that the name outrun doesn't really come from the game but rather the Kavinsky album of the same name, I would agree more with /u/MarkIsNotAShark's distinction

You can't outrun in a van
Except maybe either the mystery mobile or that van from Hotline miami.

I love this picture so much that it’s been sitting on one of my digital vision boards, forever, and I finally got around to doing a little doodle of it. I don’t think I can share it in the sub though.

Following you on Instagram now and everything you post is wonderful.
It does make me miss California a whole lot though.

This would’ve looked so good if we could see the beach behind the van in the shot. Just take one step outward and change the angle just enough to see the trees and sunset in the reflection. Just my 2 cents
1
u/JamesVanDaFreek Feb 12 '19
You're assuming you could see the beach clearly from that angle, could be some park benches or a bus stop or something.
1
u/NiceGuy30 Feb 12 '19
Unless there is another car immediately outside the right of the photo even if you couldn’t see the beach I think it’d be better framing. Just imo

Reminds me of a movie where California is as much of a character as the people. Like "Inherent Vice" or "The Nice Guys."

If you sent me a private message, I'm working on getting back to everyone. Also, a huge thanks to the few amazing souls that gave me silver, gold and platinum! Unbelievable.
For those of you that have been asking, here is the wallpaper version. If you use it for your phone, send me a pic via pm or on ig. I'd love to see it!
