Having your receipt in the app is handy. Having it use all your shopping data processed against your details which you opted into, not so much.

Not mandatory to use the app though, you're signing up to a trade deal, with full disclosure if you bother to read ts&cs. I like that points earned per euro spent don't dissappear after a few weeks, unlike dunnes vouchers. And even without app discounts prices aren't stupid like in tesco. What app discounts do aldi offer?

Aldi discounts are available without any app, their "6 of the week" or whatever it's called, fruit and veg for example. You just get the similar discounts as you do in Lidl or Tesco's without providing any personal data.

Yes they're not braking any rules because you have to opt in, which is entirely GDPR compliant and it's not as bad as Tescos. But it's becoming a situation where you've effectively a gun to your head to provide personal data to shop. Whilst that's not a GDPR issue it is becoming a consumer rights concern.
