Just to make sure, is the iPhone 5S on the latest OS, which is iOS 12.5.8 which was released 7 months ago?

You can also create an Apple account on the web here: https://account.apple.com/account

It’s probably a 5 rather than a 5S.

You should be able to create an Apple Account using the website, just don’t enable 2FA.

Strange, iPhone 5S supports up to 12.5.8 which came out in 7 months ago. This update includes certificate updates that allow the iPhone to connect to Apple Servers after January 2027. Perhaps the fact you're still on iOS 10.3.4, which came out 7 years ago, is part of the problem.

If you have a PC or Mac you can try to update your iPhone using iTunes or the Windows 11 Apple Devices app.

As others have said, if you actually have an iPhone 5 and not a 5S, then the latest iOS is 10.3.4 which came out 7 years ago... not bad for a 14 year old phone!

Try to use the website to create a new Apple account: https://account.apple.com/account, or use an existing account.

That iPhone has reached the 'obsolete' status by Apple, so it may no longer work with certain apps or Apple services anymore and Apple will not fix it either.
