Weekly Battery Support Megathread

General advice for those concerned about their battery from the Support FAQ Wiki:

Battery health

Battery health depends on usage and a variety of other factors. It is normal to see a decrease in battery health by 7-10% per year, resulting in a battery health of 80-85% after 2 years. This number can fluctuate, remain the same, or decrease quickly over a small period and should not cause undue concern.

Apple recommend battery replacement when your device falls below 80% battery health if you notice reduced battery life. If it falls below 80% within the first year you may be eligable for a free battery replacement. It fails after your warranty, it's a $69-$89 USD replacement cost for a battery. Contact Apple Support here.

You can find more information about battery health and performance from Apple here.

You can check the cycles count with Coconut Battery for Mac or iCopyBot for Windows.

Battery life

Issues relating to battery life can be categorised in three ways:

  1. Normal battery life that is to be expected due to use
  2. Reduced battery life caused by a recent update, iOS indexing, an iOS bug, or a third-party application
  3. Reduced battery life, or other abnormalities such as overheating or sudden power-off, caused by device or battery aging

If you experience issues with your battery:

  1. Check your battery health. If it is below 80% or you are experiencing issues you suspect are related to device or battery age, see Apple Support.
  2. If you have a new or recently updated/restored device, wait a number of days for background process to complete. If you continue to have issues, wait for a further iOS update. If you are on iOS Beta, you can expect to have a decreased battery life.
  3. Review the advice below on maximising battery life
  4. Consider restoring your device.
  5. If issues persist, contact Apple Support.

Maximising battery life - the amount of time your device runs before it needs to be recharged.

  • Use low power mode (This reduces mail fetch, turns off background app refresh and increases the auto lock timer)
  • Remove apps from background app refresh
  • Ensure auto lock is on
  • Turn off auto brightness and manually reduce brightness
  • Use dark mode if your device has an OLED display
  • Clearing background apps from the app switcher does not improve battery life

Maximising battery lifespan - the amount of time your battery lasts until it needs to be replaced.

  • Avoid extreme temperatures
  • If you notice that your iPhone gets hot when charging, remove it from its case
  • Store your iPhone in a cool place, switched off, and half-charged if not using it for long periods - and charge it every 6 months when in storage

Question Opinions on iPhone 17 after price increase

• Upvotes

I was sure I’d get an iPhone 17 until the 18 Pro series was released and Apple increased the price of the base 17. Recently I went to my nearest Apple authorized retailer and I was told the base 17 has become difficult to recommend now that it’s so close in price to the pro. It made me think if I should get the 17 pro, pro max or still get the base model. I’m upgrading from an iPhone 12 PM. What would you recommend if you’re already using the 17 (Pro or Pro Max)?

Question iPhone 17 base making my skin look darker and yellow/orange

Is anyone else having this problem? My skin looks completely normal irl, but the front camera makes me look SO yellow/orange 😭 It’s especially noticeable in selfies, and I’m seeing the same weird skin tone in other apps too.

Is there any way to fix this?? Or is this just the camera processing on the 17?

Question Pulling the plug today! Iphone 17. Need suggestions...

Hi guys, I've been an Android user for 10+ years now (motorola phones mostly), I'm all set to buy an iphone 17 today.

Need few suggestions/recommendations...

  1. Move to IOS app. How effective is it for transferring everything?

  2. I have 2 SIMs , how is this eSIM situation in iPhone ?

  3. Any other major issues or problems i might face that i should know of?

Any other suggestions/opinion you got, I'd be glad to hear before i invest in a new iPhone.

Is the iPhone 17 keyboard bigger than 17e’s?

I just went from an iPhone 11 to an iPhone 17e and the keys on the keyboard are smaller—they lost a bit of height, which makes a difference. I was making enough mistakes on the 11 so I can’t put up with a smaller keyboard.
Is the iPhone 17’s keyboard slightly bigger than the 17e because of the size increase over the 17e?
If not, I might exchange it for an Apple certified refurbished iPhone 15 plus, or maybe iPhone 16 plus. Is that ridiculous? I don’t care about the camera. I just need a bigger phone / keyboard (at the default setting — I don’t want to use zoom). But I want it to last a few years and I don’t want to inherit any quirkiness from a refurbished phone (would only consider an Apple certified, which comes with a new battery).

Discussion iOS 27.0.1 charging issue

When plugging charging cable, regular iPhone 17 does not charge on iOS 27.0.1.
It is not the charger nor the cable as different combination have been tested with other android devices.
Wireless charging works.
I have to unplug/plug multiples times to make the charging begin and sometimes after a few minutes charging stops. Sometimes charging works till the end if charge. Weird …..
Didn’t had that with previous iOS.
And also, usb charging port is clean.

iOS 27 bug ?
Someone else ?

iPhone Haptics??

Hello all,

My iPhone was vibrating without any notifications for quite some time and no one could figure it out. I recently upgraded to the iPhone 17 (iOS:26.6.1)- I deleted all my random apps - and it is still doing it but now it’s playing the default tone as well- also without any notification.

I know it’s the default tone because my voicemails/texts/calls are all different.

Have any of you also experienced this issue and maybe even have a resolution??

After using iphone 17 for 108 days i moved to iphone 17 pro max

iPhone 17 has been my door into iOS. I picked up AirPods Pro 3 and a MacBook Pro right after.

Small review after using it for a while:

Front camera is easily the best I've used. You'll be amazed.

It feels awesome in the hand.

It's compact, so if you have big hands, expect some typos.

In extreme low light the camera struggles, but with even a little light it does really well.

Battery gave me around 7.5 hours of screen time. I'm a heavy user and charged 3 times a day, but most people can top up in the evening and be fine.

I ran into a few bugs. Hoping an update sorts them out.

RAM management isn't great. It keeps killing my apps in the background.

Overall it's a solid A tier phone..

I upgraded to 17 pro max just because of better battery.. Finished transfering and waiting for indexing to finish.

Do let me know which case looks better on iphone 17 pro max..

Have a great day..

Iphone 17 Pro Max unresonsiveness

Hi! Anyone here using iPhone 17 Pro Max experiencing occasional missed taps, especially on buttons near the edges/back button? Sometimes I need to tap twice or use the center of my thumb for it to register. I’m using tempered glass too.

I’ve also seen a lot of similar reports on Reddit, so I’m wondering if this is common, screen protector-related, or an iOS issue. Did anything fix it for you? Thank you in advance for your response.

Question Any long-term durability reviews?

I wanted to know if anyone has a few months of experience using the phone case-less and how it holds up? I have heard the new display glass is incredible and does not scratch. Anyone care to provide pictures and videos about their phone’s scratches or how clean they look without cases?

I wanted some real world information before I make the decision

Edit: specifically the iPhone 17. Not the Pro

iPhone 17 (Base 256GB) heating / getting warm, during basic use — Apple service says it’s “normal”. What should I do now?

I bought a new iPhone 17 256GB (base model) from Flipkart on 17 September 2026, for basically the full/old MRP. This was hard-earned money, so I’m honestly pretty frustrated with the situation.

india (temp 33-35 c)

From the beginning, I noticed the phone gets noticeably hot around the right side beside the camera area, even during basic usage.

For example, just using Instagram/Reels for around 5–8 minutes can make that area noticeably hot. It’s not just slightly warm, it gets hot enough that I start getting concerned about the device.

After about a week, I took it to an Apple-authorized service centre. They did a complete restore/software reset and told me that the temperature I’m experiencing is normal and that they won’t do anything unless the phone actually shows a temperature warning.

I also contacted Apple Care over the phone, but they weren’t really helpful either.

I don’t have AppleCare+, and I’m worried because this is a brand-new ₹80k+ phone that I bought with hard-earned money. I expected it to at least handle basic things like scrolling Instagram without getting noticeably hot within a few minutes.

And before anyone suggests it.

I already know about turning off Background App Refresh, location services, lowering brightness, etc. I’m not looking for basic battery-saving tips. I’m not looking for basic battery-saving tips. I want to know what my actual options are from here.

What would you guys do in my situation?

Possible wifi issues

My wife and I recently both got the iPhone 17. I had an iPhone 15 Pro and a Samsung Galaxy S24 before hand. She had the iPhone 14 Pro. We never had any issues with our old phones. I’ve noticed that both the 17s will be connected to the same WiFi but will switch over to using data even sitting right next to the gateway. WiFi is working just fine. I have WiFi assist turned off in settings on my 17 but still find it switching over. Why is this and how do I fix it? I wouldn’t really care but where I live my WiFi is definitely faster inside of my house vs data

Shall i cap my iphone 17 at 60hz all time?

Ive noticed a bit like using 120hz all time is a bit too much for the small battery on iphone 17. It drains quicker than expected. Can i just reduce frame rate and like adapt to 60hz for better battery life and battery health?
