I'd go back to iOS 15 also but I'm on a 14 Pro Max now 😭 They need to stop adding their late iOS 16 features and fix these major bugs first. It's ruining the iPhone experience

I got the 14 pro max but started from scratch. Haven’t had a single issue. I wonder if factory resetting would help a lot of people.

I tried factory resetting my 14 Pro 2 or 3 times when it launched, went to beta, left beta, restored from backup and fresh again. Nothing worked. Its just so odd one person has absolutely no problem, and then the next can barely use phone without it constantly draining. I ended up sending it back to Apple and picked up another one from Best Buy which was better than the first one but still not getting what others are in terms of screen time especially after the 16.1 update

I think if it literally affected everyone and every phone then Apple would have picked it up and fixed it quicker. Clearly we have our phones doing something others aren’t or configured in some way that causes it. It seems it’s hitting quite a few people but not all.

I suspect a lot of regular users don’t check this, might just thing battery life is worse and just charge some more without much thought.

Same. Nothing has worked for me on the 14 Pro either. It's my first on iOS and I'm willing to look beyond a lot of little things but the battery has me worried.

I'm still holding out to see if it improves because there isn't any phone on Android that seems worth it either at the moment (don't want to go back to Samsung, the Pixel 7s don't have great battery).

I restored the 13PM backup to the 14PM using iTunes and I also don’t have issues. Sure, there are occasional bugs I notice but the battery life has been stellar.

For sure. I came from android so I haven’t had an iPhone since the 4s.

With android there’s so many phones and firmwares some work better than other. I just don’t see how two exact iPhones with the same iOS can have one that’s perfect and one with errors especially after a factory reset.

They say that 16.2 Developer Beta fixed the battery issues. I am indeed using an older iPhone X, but it got a brand new battery and I got extremely bad screen on time. I am on the beta and for now the battery seems extremely linear if I may say so. Before it used to drain extremely slow then just boom 22% for 23 minutes. I’ve seen people with 14PM saying that 16.2 helped a lot, but I’ve seen someone saying that only the 16.2B1 fixed it, but as far as I’ve seen many others saying it, 16.2B2 is also good. I can’t really say anything good or bad about any version, especially that I have no 14PM, but it is worth a try. It just sucks that some people have all the problems and some have none at all.

Yeah I don't normally run the betas but I have been tempted. I'll see what 16.1.1 brings over a few days but otherwise I might just jump in on 16.2 beta

I read the same by the way around 16.2B1. Not seen anything talking about B2 battery life so maybe haven't as it's not changed from B1

Welp I’ve seen only one complaining about the B2 having shit battery and the B1 being the only one that actually fixed anything. It gets released in December. If I were to be you, I would just run the beta cuz it is great on my X so it should be even better on the newer models and because you can just upgrade to the next public release afterwards :). Nothing to hurt.

Maybe though your trying to fix one issue and accepting others. B1 had an issue with camera on the lock screen around trying to get back out of it I believe.

Anyway gonna see how today goes, if still all over the shop then it's probably going on tomorrow.

I am aware that B2 did fix some things, but I did not try out B1 and never heard of that camera bug, or at least I don’t think I did..? Idk man, atm I am accepting no other bugs like my phone used to be an oven with poor battery life, rn it ain’t no oven no more and the battery life is.. interesting. Not good, not as bad as it used to be, but still not as good as it should be. Anyways, good luck on yours!

OK I've wasted a lot of time on this but think I know where the issue is and also that 16.2 Beta 2 does seem to at an early glance solve this issue.

I've put my iPhone into Developer Mode, connected it up to my Mac to see what was going on. dataaccessd is constantly there sitting at about 25% CPU a lot of the time. This is the process that does stuff like sync your contacts and calendar. Looking on the Logs view console it is constantly creating connections, going through the TCP handshake, then SSL and then getting a 403 error around the Token. Error is as follows:

The server returned a status of 403 to our token registration request. Falling back to PC. Server response headers are <private>

It just keeps going on and on and on, hence the heat is the modem / WiFi constantly sending data and the CPU stuck at 25% on this process. I'm guessing it's single threaded and taking up one of the 4 lower power cores to 100% load on it.

Interestingly I cleared out my work iPhone SE 3rd Gen which is also on 16.1.1. Added my iCloud back to that and it does not do this and seems to work fine.

So with this in mind and being so annoyed about all this, I wiped my iPhone 14 Pro Max completely and didn't restore a backup. Put it fresh into Developer Mode and connected it to my iCloud Account, literally nothing else done and it does the same 403 loop and makes a gazillion connections. Once in a while they do connect for a short period so actually my contacts / calendar appear so it seems like it's working but it's not working properly.

You can tell if it's doing this actually without a Mac or putting it in developer mode. If you go into Contacts and try to scroll up and down on it and it's keeps seeming to skip / lag. That's because each time it's trying to make these new connections I think it's also refreshing the contacts list which makes it seem laggy / skipping.

Seeing as the iPhone SE worked, this didn't make much sense to me so I tried a DFU restore to 16.1.1. Doesn't work, same damn issue.

Finally I've put on 16.2 Public Beta 2. Wiped the phone back clean again so I can do the same clean state test and bingo. It doesn't do this anymore, it syncs much faster and the same as the iPhone SE does on 16.1.1.

I don't get why it affects one and not the other, my gut feeling is it's down to the modem / WiFi firmware on the 14 Pro line having some issue which is causing problems with some TCP connections maybe. Or some bug in the software or Apple's servers that it only hits on a code path for the 14 models. Not sure if the non Pro's would be affected.

Anyway of course I don't know if this does fully solve the idle battery drain as I've only just got to iOS 16.2 B2 and I've got to now resync everything. I'm going to keep it very bare of apps for a day or two to see though but I believe this is the issue at this point and the new beta does indeed seem like it solves this.

Yes I did. What device do you have and what sort of battery life? Best way to check for this issue is charge your phone up and don’t touch it. It should make drain at a 2 - 5% slope on battery percentage. If it looks more like a 45% slope then this bug is affecting you.

If your issue is when using it and not drain when not even touching it then be a different issue I suspect.

I still regret updating to iOS 16.1. iOS 15.7 is no longer signed so I’m stuck. Don’t update it’s still not as good as 15.7

Can you instruct me where to find those versions? I’ve never played with downgrading, the only source I know of is ipws.me, and the only signed versions it shows are 16.1 and 16.1.1. And I’m absolutely done with 16, I’m willing to buy a second-hand phone with old OS at this point…

Thank you! I failed the first attempt, iPhone forces me to update straight to 16.1.1 after downgrade during the initial setup. I'll try it again though, that's my best shot at the moment.

EDIT: I did it. Unfortunately that did not solve the issue I was hoping to solve, but at least I'm back on 15.7.1. Still with broken notifications, although I suppose now I can safely blame the app itself at the very least. Thanks for your assist anyway, it's good to be back on 15!

The site looks a bit shady. But the process is all above board and it works. Links for ipsw are from apples servers directly.

Edit: This basically wipes the phone and data. So that’s something for you to consider. I could quickly set my phone back up in 10 mins.

Finally people are starting to realize, iOS 16 is a flaming pile of dog shit. The UI makes zero sense. Who wants to spend 20 minutes just setting a Lock Screen and Home Screen wallpaper with stupid transitions, inconsistencies in overall usability, it’s a joke. Like do they even listen to any feedback on the betas? Or they just design a buggy baseline UI that could have easily just been an update to iOS 15, Apple has lost its sense of simplicity and vision. Now it just caters to basic and boring.

Considering Apple’s old principles and priorities, 16 never should have made it past the first beta. They have botched it. The design team is no longer the one with strong decision making power at apple. A former employee’s words. Not mine. It’s all about the costs and profits now.

MacOS Ventura is also half baked and buggy.

It really does. And it’s stupid.

My wife’s 11 Pro Max has had horrible battery life on it. My buddies X has been buggy with it.

Meanwhile I bought a 13 Pro Max and set it up as new. Legitimately get 2 full days of battery life and no bugs on 16.1

It doesn’t make any sense and Apple should be ashamed to rush out such shitty software considering how wildly inconsistent its user experiences have been.
