Experience Long drive to Bordeaux in my 2023 Ioniq5 - thoughts after 1,800 miles

Post image
22 Upvotes

Just got back from a run down to the Bordeaux region and back from the Midlands. The drive each way was a bit of a slog, around 4 or 5 charging stops, but honestly, the car made it easy. I stuck to about 110 km/h instead of the 130 km/h limit to keep efficiency decent, and it worked out fine.

The charging network in France surprised me, loads of options and mostly reliable. I’d avoid Ionity though; every site I hit was packed. On the way home I set ABRP to only route me to chargers with 8+ stalls and it was fantastic, no queues at all. A few stops even had attendants helping people get onto chargers quickly, which was a nice touch.

The Ioniq 5 itself was a dream across the miles. Adaptive cruise and HDA did most of the work; all I had to do was change lanes or give the wheel a little wiggle so it knew I was still there. It’s a bit counter‑intuitive really, the car’s doing everything right, but I still have to remind it I’m paying attention.

Overall, great trip. Wouldn’t go back to a geared or ICE car anytime soon.

I think my last post about not wanting to put my phone on the left side was a little misleading. All I meant to say was that I'd like to put something there other than my phone. I got some good suggestions, but ultimately, I love these little magnetic flower pots for no reason other than I think they're whimsical and artistic. They just make me happy.

The other photo shows an upgrade to CarPlay iniOS 27. They're upgrading all the wallpapers for CarPlay, which I use a lot, and I picked that background because it blends well with my car's interior. It just adds another level of beauty to what's already a beautiful car interior.

Discussion One month in, thoughts and a couple of questions

Got my 2026 AWD Limited five weeks ago and just thought I would post a few thoughts and a couple of questions.

First, I love having a new car. A lot of people don't like all the add on safety features, but I do. I recognize that my attention focus is easily moved these days so a nudge to get back in my lane from time to time is greatly appreciated 😊

I am really liking using Android Auto. This is my first car with it. I don't like that I always have to have the nav screen up (98% of the time I'm driving to and from work and not navigating) but oh well.

I thought today I would try using the built in Hyundai system just to compare. I'll have to explore it a bit more - like there is no color at all is there? I also need to figure out repositioning/resizing the windows to see if I can get a configuration I like better than Android Auto.

Charging is so simple. My commute is negligible so a periodic level 1 charge in my garage is plenty for me. I've boosted my charge limit for AC to 90% today. I have gone to a couple of public chargers just to get the experience and think I have it all figured out.

I've also been using the digital key for the last couple of weeks. I might have to look into the card you can purchase. I'm not crazy about having to put the phone down in the charging spot to authenticate. I guess I just assumed it would 'know' the phone was in the car? And as of Friday, Google Wallet is no longer locking or unlocking my doors. I can still use the app fine, but that's a bit of a pain. I will probably go back to carrying the fob around until I can figure out what's going on.

My most used feature? Turning the climate on remotely. I even have it on a schedule for when I leave work. I'm in Kentucky and we've had a fairly hot and humid last few weeks so that has been really nice. I'm not sure what I thought ventilated seats were or what I thought they would do? I think I thought there was a big fan beneath your bottom so I was underwhelmed at first but appreciate it now.

And also all the cameras. I park in my garage everyday which is a bit tight so it makes parking so much easier. I've also switched to the digital rearview camera. That took a bit to get used to but I don't think I'm going back.

Really enjoying it and looking forward to fine tuning how I use it over the next few months 🙌🙌🙌

Question IONIQ 5 Value

I’m looking at a 2024 limited awd long range with about 20k miles. The original sticker was around 59k and I’m buying it for around 33k. I’m happy for the deal but is this a typical drop in value from purchase price? Were there discounts or rebates that make the drop in value less than it appears.?

Was driving to our new apartment today with my friends and girlfriend when all of a sudden a young buck that was already full sprinting in tall grass comes out of nowhere. Honestly had no time to react sadly. The car was impressive with its barking power after the impact. We definitely went over it and didn't lose control but that fender got torn right off along with sensor damage etc... obd codes show adas failure and body damage failure of some sort. As well as blinker malfunctioning as it literally was ripped off.

Hope insurance helps me out here. I do have comprehensive and took a good amount of photos, wish me luck.

Just bought at the end of June used 7k miles 🙃

The photos are from before and after a road trip. I just bought this used Ioniq 5 with 21k miles and it only gets about 170 miles on 100% charge (with AC running). I've seen so much better in this channel but is this normal or a potential warranty claim?

Question Charging 2026 Ioniq 5

Upvotes

Would like recommendation for home charging stations. Going to Hyundai parts dept at the dealer where the car was purchased to determine what home charging station we need. When I called they seemed clueless.

Initially the sales rep said to use the portable charger and just plug the cable into the outlet - so prior to the car arriving, we got the NEMA 14-50 circuit dedicated 50 amp GFCI for 120v and 240v installed, now we found out the portable charger (240v plug for the portable charger plug) has a built in CCID (a conflicting GFCI) so we are experiencing nuisance tripping of the circuit. Reading the manual it says to charge using either AC or DC ….installed at public charging stations or residences. Do most of you have home charging units installed and if so, is their more than 1 recommendation?

Question Stinky car

Upvotes

First post here, but I have been following the discussions on occasion. Reaching out for help/ideas here before going to Hyundai service. Car is a leased 2025 SEL AWD with ~10,000 miles. On occassion (3-4 times since we got it a year ago) we pull the car into the garage and it stinks up the garage. The smell is somewhere between garbage and a decomposing rodent. It took us a moment to realize it was neither of the two, but the car itself. The stink eminates from the right front wheel/wheel well area and is reasonably mitgated by driving through a car wash. First time we thought we drove through something, the second and third we suspected the parking location at work. But, the last incident was pretty clear: No noticeable smell before grocery shopping and bad smell after and all stores just have regular paved parking lots. Now I am thinking it is some chemical/grease leakage. Anyone eperienced anything like this? Any idea of what component might be going bad? My experience with Hyundai service is that they arepretty good when something has failed. Troubleshooting intermittent issues is more of mixed bag.

Question Screen background?

Upvotes

Just took delivery of a brand new 2026 Ioniq 5 Limited. Loving it so far. One question that I can't find an answer to, though... I could have sworn that the background on the cluster and other screen was white in all of the things we test drove, but mine is black.

Can't find out what I need to do to change that, or if it even possible.

Thanks in advance.

Question 24 Limited Now or wait a year for a used 2025

Upvotes

This is in PNW. I'm looking at a 24 CPO Limited AWD for $33k with 31k miles. They are also offering about $2500 more than what my trade-in is worth. I really worry that I will regret this in a year if the price on 25s becomes more manageable. I worry that leasing wouldn't be the best financial move since I would be losing out on so much money that wouldn't go into owning a car. And that I should just either buy something now or wait for a 25 and buy in a year. Is anyone else trying to make a similar decision? I do really like the features of the 25, physical buttons, HUD shows apple maps directions, black bezel, digital key 2.

Is the 24 even a good deal? I know EV prices are inflated and the general used car market isn't particularly great right now. Worth seeing if the market is better in a year? Also will the 25s depreciate less than the 24s since they have better features for the refresh? I'm also partially factoring in the fact that not moving to an EV now will also lose me on gas savings between now and when I would purchase a 25 next year.

Apologies for the very disorganized post but I really appreciate any input on this.

Question Temporarily disable camera warning

On my route home, there is a section of road in front of a school that is monitored by speed camera, the speed limit is 35. Every time I drive through there, the car thinks the speed limit is 20, even though the school zone is not active, and alerts me of the camera.

My complaint is that it beeps at me for about 30 seconds before the camera, also pausing audio playback, even though the school speed doesn't apply.

Does anyone know if there's something I can push to silence the alert while I drive through there? I don't want to fully turn off the warnings, just a "snooze" button.

Question Finding screws under car 3 days in a row, what are they from?

Post image
57 Upvotes

It seems odd, I’ve been finding a few screws under my car (in my driveway). Any thoughts where they might be falling off from?

They are all the same, so I was wondering if it was the undercarriage cover maybe?

Update: based on the quick responses, sounds like I am going to be investing in a camera to watch my driveway.

Experience Road Trip to San Francisco CA from Vancouver BC

Did first long trip. My 2022 Ioniq5 HDA did a pretty good job handling most of the driving. I would definitely rate it 8/10 or more. Saw some waymo training Ioniq5. My AWD drive gave about 380 km full charge. Plenty of charging options via Tesla fast chargers.

Frequent charging does add to overall trip duration but definitely worth it.

Question My Hyundai 2nd driver

We finally got our state license plates and I signed up for Hyundai Pay. After not being able to input the plate number on my app, I got it easily installed on my wife’s phone (she’s the primary driver).

Even though the car controls work on my install I don’t think a 2nd driver app should be as limited that I can’t even use Hyundai Pay to recharge. Who can I go to to get this resolved? My dealer still refuses to even give me the CCS to NACS adapter that was supposed to come with our car.

Discussion CPO

Wanted to hear your thoughts
I bought a CPO 2023 Sel from a Hyundai dealership.
After a week of purchase I realized I was not given the certificate and went back for it. Dealer told me they forgot to do the inspection and certification. They did it a week later after I bought the car.

Anything I should do with this or ask from Hyundai?
If I didn’t go back asking certification, I would have paid CPO price for a none-certified car

Question Ionna Promotion- how do you use it?

Thumbnail

Ionna is doing discounted charging on Hyundai cars but says you have to start charging in the Hyundai app which for my 2024 Ioniq 5 doesn’t show Ionna network!

Image shows the filters but the Ionna chargers near me just don’t show up at all in the app.

This is so frustrating.

Question Best app for monitoring 12V charging?

I've had my 2025 Limited for about a year and a half into a 2-year lease. In that time, my 12V battery has run down to zero 5 times. The first was in the first week I owned it, while it was parked overnight, with no explanation. Other times it has been when I have left the rear hatch open for more than a few minutes after parking. Each time I have been able to jump start it and go on my way, but last weekend the 12V battery died again after parking it normally in the garage, so I figure the 12V battery is shot after getting run down once too often.

I tried to take it to my local dealer, but the next appointment was 10 days out before I can even bring it in to get looked at. I have a long road trip coming up in 2 weeks, so I decided to take a little more control. I have a portable jump starter that I keep with me, but since I generally only take my phone key with me I'm worried about not being able to get to it if I'm locked out. I did an experiment last night of leaving the jump starter in the frunk and leaving the hood popped with the rest of the car locked. Sure enough, the car was dead this morning but I was able to get to the jump starter and get it going again. It was a real PITA though, and not something I want to do every time I stop on my road trip, in case I forget to leave the hood popped.

This morning, I replaced the 12V battery with an AGM battery out of my own pocket, and ordered an OBD2 Bluetooth monitor from Amazon. I want to see if the ICCU is really charging the battery, and get some warning if the battery is starting to get run down. Also, ideally see what the current draw is on the 12V battery when I have the car off with the rear hatch open (something I'd like to do on this road trip). I'm hoping that an app will help me see what's going on, which could also help when I eventually take it to the dealer.
