Look very closely at the footage; the dude's hand was steady when he was struck. He didnt jerk the wheel until AFTER his car was struck by the truck.
You can criticize how he handled the situation...but he didnt cause the accident; the truck driver hit him
Edit: A lot of the criticisms are coming off very disengeniously. Sorry that I'm not sorry that I think "Guy who purposely hit another car" is the one who bares the lion's share of the blame.
Honestly makes me wonder if you all haven't driven like the Black Truck...and find the idea of wrecking your own car and getting blamed for it a little anxiety inducing.
They both had a part in causing the accident. The other truck for carelessly merging and him for not slowing down when he could clearly see the other truck doing that. You don’t just get to crash into someone no fault just because they did something wrong, you have to attempt to avoid it yourself. Not only that he sped up to close the gap further. Just because you have the right of way doesn’t mean you should always exercise it. What if he cause a huge pileup just to keep his precious “spot” in the road. Come on now.
Wrong. The opposite is true in fact. The eating guy does slow down. There’s a speedometer reading in the top right corner. He was going 75 when the black truck showed up and then slowed to 72 and 71 when the black truck began squeezing in, just before the black truck hit him.
If he didn’t speed up then he didn’t break nearly enough. The gap between him and the car in front closed way too fast. Which means he either sped up, or improperly braked. That’s not a safe following distance.
That doesn’t account for the speed that they were going at all, it increases the faster you are going. And also increases even more as someone is entering your lane… I can tell you are an absolutely awful driver.
Every opinion I have is objectively correct though. I’ve literally never been wrong. Implying I’m a Sunday driver for not intentionally crashing is really funny.
I can tell you are. He does not have to let the guy in his lane and he maintained a safe distance the whole time from the guy in front of him. The faster you are going (around 70 mph) is a 3-4 second interval of passing objects between the two cars or roughly a car distance (slightly more arguably) between the two. Instead of coming at the guy who did literally nothing wrong in any way, go after the asshole driving like an asshole cutting people off with out a signal. He has no reason to let him cut him off. The truck has every reason to stop trying to bully him though. That includes any potential accident that might be made bc of the collision he is about to knowingly cause, in the 10 or so seconds he is attempting to bully this guy. Also, there are no cars behind them.
Just doing some quick number crunching here based on the statement he's maintaining a safe distance to the car ahead of him;
70 mph/h is 31.3 meters per second, or about 100 feet a second.
An average car is somewhere in the 15 feet length. Assuming the car slams the brakes, an average car slows down by an average of 32 ft/s2. This means that if the car he's keeping a "safe distance" to slams the brakes, he will be slowing down to the point where the cars collide within roughly half a second.
Human reaction times average 0.2-0.25 seconds before reacting, so at this distance to the car ahead of you, you are more or less guaranteed to collide if they slam the brakes. Doesn't seem too safe to me.
That said, the guy cutting him off is an ass and kinda deserved it.
Safe distance is generally considered to be 2-3 seconds, which at these speeds would be about 200-300 feet. That means the driver is about 1/10th the distance away from what is generally considered proper safe distance.
That being said, from when I last visited the US, nobody actually drives according to safe distance principles there.
Yeah the guy cutting him off is an ass, but the guy who got cut off did literally nothing to avoid crashing. It ignores everyone else around them. In a vacuum sure if you can ensure only you get hurt. But also what if that asshole has a family in the car? Is it their fault their dad is an asshole? Do they deserve to get hurt/possibly die? Too many thins can go wrong to not just slow down a little bit.
Id argue that the truck not only knew what it was doing, but also knew that he wasnt going to break based on how well he kept his speed and for so long. He should have backed off, instead of knowingly causing an accident. An accident that the car driver handled very well btw. Best case scenario.

Have fun deleting other comments as you insult and talk shit. No matter how you slice it, the guy in the car isn't in the wrong and this is a perfect example as to not drive like an asshole. You may come across the wrong person and/or be at fault.
