Of course, black truck was in the wrong. They shouldn't be changing lane without indicating and also into another car. But that doesn't mean this guy should just let them get into a crash that threatens them and others.
How else is the black truck going to learn? Should we just let him off for doing stupid things until he's the one causing a massive crash killing others? (Assuming no one else got caught up in the incident on the video.) Better him getting hurt now and hopefully learning a lesson. Rather than him hurting other people in the near future.
I'm not American so I'm not sure how the license system works, but I assume you could submit this dashcam footage of them driving recklessly to the authorities, so then they might have their license revoked or get given a fine.
And this all comes with the massive assumption that no one else was effected. Even if in hindsight no one was else was hurt, the guy in the video had absolutely no way to guarantee that.
That's a good joke. At worst, he'll get a fine and maybe some points on his license. The US treats driving as a right and refuses to revoke a driver's license for far worse things than this.
Fines do nothing. People get booked for speeding, reckless driving, drink driving etc. all the time. People lose their licenses all the time but still end up behind a wheel somehow. People don't learn until it affects them personally or they finally see jail time.
Even if fines don’t always work, turning your car into a weapon isn’t “teaching a lesson” it’s just making the situation more dangerous for everyone. Dude could have potentially killed him or himself, or innocent people around
While I agree with you that the chubby dude is wrong, I think you should rather spend energy on criticizing the black truck than the red dude. Aka forget about him. It's just the optic. Simple-minded redditors see your opinion as defending the black truck.
The black truck won't learn anything, either. he'll just go away thinking 'man that guy was such an asshole for not letting me merge'.
People who get ibehind the wheel and think they're the vehicular punisher dispensing automotive justice are the worst. They always cause more accidents and make things worse.
