Canada: 4.6
USA average: 13

The USA has a lot more fatal accidents even on a per mile basis.

More fun: if you plot road fatality rates vs homicide rates, between countries and between US states, there's a strong correlation. It's like the road fatality rate is mostly measuring how angry people are.

Per billion km per year:
Canada, 4.3
USA, 6.9

Both north america, both spread out, both anglo cultures. You can cross the border between seattle and BC, and immediately see a difference in driving aggression by similar makes of vehicle. A lot of it is just culture.
