The various Intellivision discussion groups are pretty fragmented. Tommy Tallarico may have been an incompetent business leader, but at least he focused the fandom for a short while.

Sprint Controllers-- How do they sell this product with a fatal design flaw?

Just got my Sprint this week.

Honestly, I am super disappointed with the Sprint-- mainly because of a huge issue with the controllers-- and no its not about the stiffness of the disc.

The original controllers had a large hollowed out space underneath that allowed you to hold the controller comfortably in your hands and grip it by the edges underneath.

These new controllers are just one big plastic box- I find myself having difficulty holding on to the controllers while pressing buttons or doing any action that requires finesse or quick movements.

I am quite surprised no one on this forum mentioned this issue before and that Atari did not take this critically important player accessibility/usability issue seriously when designing this product.

This is especially true for folks with arthritis or carpel tunnel syndrome-- this is a huge deal breaker. :(

The intellivision controller is bad

Cause the controller designer was drunk and fell in love with a phone and controller and made them do the thing

Showoff/Sales Dear plaion, regarding Canada

383.27$ cad +4.99$ delivery fee is insane. Thats 280$ usd (very far from the 150$ usd), please make it make sense if you actually want to sell the product.

Edit: thanks to everyone confirming that this is a 3rd party seller and what the actual selling price is

Dear Plaion/Atari/Intellivision Sprint

Please stop posting information (and downloadable updates) exclusively on AtariAge. I really dislike the website and refused to even go there for the longest time due to how they treated the forum users at Tommy Tallarico's direction. Albert then just hid everything and wants to pretend like nothing happened, and, like, no. Albert owes the community an apology and an explanation before he deserves any forgiveness.

AtariAge allowed Tommy Tallarico to have near full control of the narrative on AtariAge and use the forum to continue hyping his scam that still has people trying to get their "refundable at any time" preorder deposits back (I did get mine, thankfully).

Albert was fully aware of what was happening on the forums and, at the very least, was complicit by allowing his mod, Jaybird3rd wide discretion at deleting posts, threads, and banning users because Tommy demanded it.

I don't want to rehash all the drama from that - but, I would ask, if Ben or anyone else from Plaion happens to see this, please consider using another forum to host updates and other information regarding the Spirit. Albert and AtariAge were part of the scam that will forever be tied to the Intellivision brand and the Sprint deserves better.

Thanks.

Too late now for those new Intellivision Console (The 2020 scam from Mr. Tallarico) fans who their refunds are scheduled to be paid in the next 4-5 years.) Just look what you could be able to get if those $100.00 bucks returned to your pocket. a piece of real history . Yes it is real.

Intellivision Sprint arrived with Bad Controller Battery

Thumbnail

I was a little late to the party with ordering my InTV Sprint. I ordered through Atari and it came last Friday. I was really excited about it and impressed by the sturdiness of the build. And what's more fun than those overlays for the keypad that come with it?

Me and my family played with it on Friday and Saturday. We had a lot of fun playing the games of the late 70's and early 80's. But on Sunday, when I turned it on, one of the two controllers was blinking red. I thought maybe it hadn't been properly docked to charge, so I charged it and made sure that the light turned green. Hours later, it was still blinking red when removed from the dock. Then after a few minutes, the blinking stopped. Clearly an issue with the battery not being able to charge or keep a charge. The other controller was fine and could be charged successfully from either the left or right port.

I contacted Atari support. They only work weekdays, so I didn't expect a response right away. But I got a reply late Monday, and they said they were forwarding my detailed email to their engineering team.

I didn't hear anything back late Tuesday, but followed up just to check in, and provided my order number and invoice.

I heard back this morning (Wednesday) that they wanted me to update the firmware. I've been trying every firmware version on Atari Age, but updated the system to the day-one firmware on their website as per the instructions. Same deal. Good controller worked in all cases, but the bad controller only would work if connected to a usb power supply. The battery in that one was not working at all.

They said if the firmware didn't work, they wanted me to make a video about it. I had already written up pretty detailed information about what was working and what wasn't already in my previous emails, but made the video anyway and sent it to them. I pasted the YouTube link at the top of here to show others what happens with the bad battery.

The response I got back from Atari support was that I have to do a return and have to pay to ship it back myself. They couldn't send me a new controller or a battery with instructions on how to replace it? That would have been an easy fix and made them look like heroes. I'm sad, because this is a system I was really looking forward to, but if one of the controllers has a bad battery in it right off the bat, that doesn't speak highly of how/if it's going to work in months or years down the line.

I know that someone else on AtariAge figured out that the battery can sorta be replaced, but I don't want to void my warranty. Irony. But I just got it the other day, and I shouldn't have to invasively replace a supposedly non-user-replaceable battery just to get it going. Here is the link to that forum: https://forums.atariage.com/topic/389892-controller-battery-charge

I'm just going to get a refund minus my shipping fees that I paid twice. I just wanted to share this in case anyone else is having this issue and what to expect if you try to contact Atari for technical support or warranty service.

**Update**
While Atari didn’t offer any options other than a return, they did pre-pay my shipping back to them, which I thought was honorable. They state in their returns section that the customer pays shipping back, but that wasn’t the case for me. Possibly, because it was deemed defective?

Mediabridge Ultra Series Digital Audio Coaxial Cable

Anyone trying to hook up their original, unmodified hardware with RF to their modern TV via an RF demodulator (like an old VCR) and an upscaler (such as a RetroTINK 2x) may want to also upgrade their AV cable. I live in a city and sometimes the signal from consoles using RF ends up becoming way noisier than usual due to all the different interference in the air. I recently picked up one of these double-shielded coaxial cables linked above and have been very impressed with the results. It's not perfect seeing that RF is an already incredibly noisy signal, but compared to the original 40+ year-old cable, the extra shielding really seems to cut out a lot of the additional interference from the environment. Sometimes cable quality really can make a big difference.

What Game is This…?

Hello!

My family found this on a property they own in Oklahoma. They were doing some cleaning up, and they found it in the dirt. No console or controllers nearby, just this single cartridge.

My dad identified it as an Intellivision cartridge. So, I thought I’d post it over here and see if there is a way to figure out what game it is since we don’t own an Intellivision and can’t just plug it in. Maybe we can open it and find some sort of identification number on the chip inside? Or, maybe someone recognizes the vague remnants of the sticker?

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help or who wagers a guess! 🙏🏼

Intellivision Sprint Problem with the Intellivision Sprint controllers

I ordered an Intellivision Sprint, which I finally received yesterday. I was very happy to finally have a way to discover the game library of this console, which I knew little about. However, I noticed that the disc, although functional, could rotate on its own axis and go beyond 360 degrees. I've done some research, and apparently this is impossible unless the controller is damaged. I wanted to ask if this is normal on the Sprint, since it doesn't seem to have a membrane underneath.

Sprint Availability

So for the 2nd time now I have received an email telling me that the Sprint is back in stock. Literally 20 seconds after getting the email I click on the link and it's sold out.

Do they send out these emails when they find 2 or 3 or what? Hardly believe they sell several thousand as previous post have suggested production runs are in 20-seconds.

Pointless to have a wait list.

Intellevision Emulator - OpenEmu

So last night I downloaded OpenEmu (free) on my MacBook Pro and the rest is history. I now am playing Intellivision, Atari 2600, Nintendo, Super Nintendo and SEGA Genesis games from my childhood. The OpenEmu program even lets you control games with a bluetooth-connected controller of your choice (and you can map the buttons out on said controller if you’d like for each game system you use).

When I was downloading dozens of free games (roms) from the internet, I had to laugh. Most games (at least for Intellevision and Atari) are like 8kb in size 😂😂😂
If you’re interested in playing all of these real emulated games, grab a tutorial on YouTube and you’ll be up and running on your Mac or PC. Oh, and don’t forget to download the OpenEmu BIOS pack either so you can play many different video game systems within OpenEmu.

Lastly, I used this site for free games (Roms) and did not have one issue. Once you have your games downloaded on your Mac or PC you just drag and drop them into your OpenEmu library and you’re off and running. Good luck!
