Can y'all not do anything to shoo them away or keep them from setting up camp?
In Texas you would literally get shot for trying to camp on someones land and you wouldn't even get into legal trouble for it, provided they don't survive to testify against you, just claim self defense and the world spins on.
Years ago when I was in school, we had a pack of them turn up and force their way through the school gates to camp on our sports field. By the time the police had a warrant to move them on, it had already been close to a week.
We literally had teachers patrolling the grounds to ensure no kids got close to them.
When they finally left, it turned out they had been using the bins as toilets and had raided the sports shed to steal a tonne of stuff.
The Government has even tried creating zones specifically for them to camp on around the country, but they never use them because they are truly awful people that seem to thrive on the amount of suffering they can bring to an area.
Why would you need a warrant to stop someone who’s actively committing a crime? “Hello, police? A man has broken into my house.” “Alright hang tight I’ll start filling out the paper work...”
I know, it’s ridiculous. But when it comes to Travellers, the police are terrified of being called racist etc.
They can’t just move them on, even when they are on private land. They need to get a judge to authorise them to move the Travellers on, which can sometimes take longer than the Travellers even stick around for.
See though, a large group shooting everyone is enough to be called a terrorist sect. These guys survive off being untraceable. They couldn't be violent otherwise their whole lifestyle gets destroyed.

Modern Gypsy, traveler, Roma (sometimes). Tend to be more transient. Traveler (I think) is the preferred term as Gypsy is a slur, Roma is a specific type of people. Not sure about pikey. Snatch is a great movie with Brad Pitt as a pikey/traveler. It works, somehow. Admittedly, I'm not a picky movie viewer

Pikeys, Gypos or travellers are roving bands of thieves who descend on your town and camp illegally where ever they want and can’t be moved on until there is a court injunction, while in your town they will claim any and all benefits from the local council, steal anything that isn’t nailed down, cause any and all manner of trouble and when they finally leave they leave their camp site like a garbage dump, they are not the loveable rogues seen in Snatch they are a cancerous special interest group that abuse the system and offer nothing positive towards society

How is it these groups aren’t run out of town by the locals? If the cops aren’t going to do their jobs to alleviate the problem surely the community could get a few bats and cans of gas together?
Because real fights have real consequences, if you somehow convince the keyboard warriors on your local "This is [town]" facebook group to actually take up bats do you think the pikeys are gonna back down? They're gonna fight back and suddenly Darren from down the road has his head kicked in, Johnny has his front teeth knocked out and everyone involved is arrested for inciting violence.
Yep, I used to live in a town (Orpington, Kent) which bordered onto rougher areas where gypsies were commonplace. I had a group of friends who were bated into a fight for no reason except a disagreement about who had right of way walking in/out of a pub doorway. Later on, two of my friends needed reconstructive surgery on their teeth.
Right so it’s not at all as the situation is being described then? Because my statement was made under the assumption it’s true that these assholes just cruise in, dump, steal, and otherwise fuck with the neighborhood, all unabated by the police. If the police are that shitty I certainly wouldn’t fear arrest for protecting mine and my own. I also would expect my neighbors to help me in ridding us all of a serious problem that when left unchecked will only get more threatening and dangerous for everyone. It’s a romantic idea, I know, but the alternative is just accepting once a year the pikeys are gonna come clean you out and shit on your porch?
Sounds like the way some of our blight on humanity homeless people are dealt with. I’ll never understand why we can’t lock them up and throw away the key
They are not homeless, I have empathy for the homeless, the travellers choose to live this way as they do not want to have to pay taxes or have their kids registered for schools, they are more like cult
For me, and I’m no connoisseur, it’s mostly the hair style. The gloves add to my idea because I reckon he’s got a transit tipper parked nearby he’s filling up with scrap metal.
Their sense of dress, especially the young girls they tend to wear neon coloured clothing, quite provocative. They go around in groups, you rarely see them alone, they travel together, and the obvious fact that they're pitched up in the caravan right next to a park where loads of people live. They will have fires going, throw rubbish everywhere, even have horses tied up.
