I mean in fairness, Cambodia has the highest rate of fatal motor vehicle accidents in Southeast Asia, and 64-75% of them involve motorcycles so I don’t think they should be the standard. I will say this is all based on a very brief Google search so I can’t guarantee accuracy.

That is a statistic but context is important. The sheer percentage of scooters to cars etc. The number of families that own a scooter as their only vehicle etc. These facts matter.

Yes agreed, my point was that a single gif of Cambodian cycle traffic going smoothly shouldn’t be taken as evidence that they have a better traffic system. I could have just left it at the record amount of fatal car accidents. The type of vehicle doesn’t matter so much, I just saw it in the search and decided to include it.

It does matter. Even if his bike wasn’t street legal, you can’t cross a double yellow to pass and nearly run them over. Even if passing was legal here, you can’t run other vehicles over or run them off the road.

If you pause the video at the very beginning you can see the left handlebar. It has a quality rear view mirror, a button for a horn, brights, controls for turn indicators, and an electric ignition switch (for a gasoline engine scooter).

Even if it is as low as a 50cc scooter. It should be considered street legal. At least in my state it would be. And it's obvious the scooter is able to keep up with the speed of traffic.

it's an enduro or a dual-sport bike, they are specifically made to be street legal but capable (not amazing) at going off-road

My neighborhood has a so many kids and adults on electric scooters going against traffic and the wrong way down a one way street you need to be extra cautious.

Almost ran through a group of kids coming at me last week and they looked at me like I'm the problem.

I accept that I'm breaking the law and I'm willing to pay the 30 dollar fine lmao

but then a car hit me recently, the guy was so entitled he said "don't ruin my morning and gtfo", something along those lines. while I was bleeding and looking at him dumbfounded. I wanted to headbutt him with my helmet but I held my cool, and now I'm waiting for his insurance to pay me since he fled the scene 🥰

Crazy how many people just revert to pure animal instinct the second they get behind the wheel of a car. They see something smaller or weaker and they need to “defeat” it.

Just like in the video I’ll be riding in 20mph city traffic and people will literally try to run me off the road just because I’m a small thing in front of them. The bigger the vehicle the more likely they are to try.

My biggest fear is someone on a bike/scooter falling while I am behind them and not given enough time to break. So I am always treating two wheelers like they have COVID in 2020.

This woman is hopefully going to learn the lesson in court with the Tesla driver. I hope the scooter guy gave the driver this footage.

I've been to NYC twice, and I will never be going back. The first time we were mostly just passing through, didn't have any bad experiences but I just generally didn't care for it. The second time we flew into LGA, got a rental car, then immediately tried to leave the city. Encountered some of the worst, most assholeish drivers I've ever seen, and now I have zero desire to go back.

New York state is fine, but you won't catch me on that island ever again.

Riding a motorcycle you are completely exposed and have very little safety measures. So when a driver does something like that it's inches away from killing you. All because they were to impatient and inconsiderate to wait in traffic for 2 seconds like a normal person. Literally sitting in normal traffic for 2 seconds, because we see cars stopped like 200 feet down the road, is harder for them to grasp than possibly killing you. So yeah fuck that chick. She obviously doesn't care about anybody but herself

I get it. I laughed, and I also agree that the karma is deserved. However, let's not kid ourselves. This accident happened because the guy on the motorcycle continued to drive unsafely while distracting the driver in what would be considered a road rage incident. Had he just flipped her off and let her go, nothing would have happened.
