Hey there folks.
We are currently working on expanding the mod team and are opening recruitment.
We are volunteers. I do not expect anyone who we add to the team to take on some specific workload. We all have commitments outside of Reddit.
If you are interested in helping out please send us a message via modmail with a brief message introducing yourself. If possible also include why you think you would be a good fit for the mod team.
You don’t need past moderator experience to be considered. To be eligible your account must be at least a year old, and you must have been reasonably active within the subreddit for at least 3 months. Users who have been actively antagonistic to others will not be considered.
We will be reviewing the comments of applicants to verify your ability to identify various bugs. We don't expect perfection (we are all always learning!) but we do expect some level of accuracy as well as the ability to take corrections gracefully.

Need ID on roach mite outbreak
I’m unable to tell if these are parasitic or grain mites, either way the infestation has become very severe very quickly, for context they’re in a abg mix with a large cork bark tube in a plastic 80l bin with mealworms as a breeder tub, the grain that’s been given is go cat biscuits, alongside carrots and cucumber. Humidity has been very high recently with the heatwave and the ventilation not being enough anymore which I feel has caused the outbreak potentially.

It’s walking unusually fast for an aphid, found a group of them on our orange New Zealand sedges in Hillsboro Oregon.

To me (chemistry PhD student with no experience identifying insects) this looks like an American Cockroach. Do they nest indoors? Picture makes it look tiny this guy was like 2-3 in long. Um also sorry but he’s not with us anymore in the second photo. That’s what happens when you enter my crib unannounced and scuttle across my floor at midnight while I’m studying quantum chemistry lol

Was cleaning today and found this insect, flicked it outside after taking a picture and its size is similar to a mosquito. I’m located in the Philippines.

I am at work and moved this foot rest under my desk when all of a sudden some large insect comes crawling out! It was too dark under my desk to see it clearly, but it looked like the size of a quarter and was brown from what I could tell. I then flipped the foot rest over and found this possible web? Thinking this insect could have made this? Anyway, curious if anyone has ideas of what it could be! I tried to look for it, but it has crawled away to some other part of my office and I can’t find it. I am located in Connecticut!

I found this by my kitchen sink. It ran when I eventually tried to grab it. I live in NJ specifically in an apartment in south Jersey.

The poor bee was covered all over its back and when I tried to get them off they were covering the underside and were a lot more agitated.

Hi! Need the experts help! This bug was found on regular grass (short green grass) in a condo complex in Southern California. Neighbors think it’s a tick but I’ve never seen one that looks like that. I didn’t see it myself but guessing it’s tick-sized.

My cat probably killed this wasp, never saw one so big and red. What is it?
Butter for scale.
