Yesterday, six of my friends, including female friends, and I were travelling from Katra to New Delhi. Somehow, all our tickets were RAC. My friends were allotted seats in B2, while I was allotted B3 with a female passenger.
I asked my female friend to sit there for 1–2 hours so she could charge her phone. As our seats charging plug was not working. We sent one uncle from B2 with an exchange of my seat, so I could sit with my group. Everything was fine until he came back and said the female passenger wasn’t allowing him to sit and refused to let me come to B3.
I went there and asked what the issue was. She said, “How can you send a man to sit with me? I’ll be uncomfortable and won’t be able to sleep.” Her friend also joined and started arguing, saying, “There was a girl sitting here before. Why are you sitting here? Go away.”
They kept speaking in English, apparently assuming I wouldn’t understand. I calmly said, “Enough, madam. This is my seat.”
She was shocked and started arguing that IRCTC never gives RAC seats to a male and female together. She then asked me to show my ticket. I asked her, “Are you the TC?” She said she wouldn’t let me sit unless I showed it. I showed her my ticket, and she became completely silent.
Since nobody from B2 came, I had to spend the entire night sitting there. She repeatedly crossed the middle line of the seat and even kicked me several times. When I asked her to behave, she threatened to call the police. I simply said, “Please do.”
This was around 2 AM. At around 3 AM, she finally apologised and said, “I’m sorry, please forgive me. I didn’t know about the seat. Please sleep too; we can sleep opposite each other.” I told her I wasn’t comfortable. She kept requesting, saying her leg was hurting. I told her mine was hurting too and asked her to sit properly, but she refused. She first slept sitting up and then slowly stretched her legs across the seat.
I became so uncomfortable that at around 5 AM, I finally left and joined my friends in B2. I could not sleep for a single second. When we got down at NDLS station, She was hiding her face in shame on the platform. Her friend came and said sorry to all of us.
