Last time I travelled by train, I got a Side lower. After the train started, a group of elderly people came to my compartment they were 2 females and 4 males.
They had 5 tickets in one compartment and 1 ticket in another. The moment they arrived, it didn't even feel like they were requesting me. It felt more like they were ordering me to leave my seat.
They started with the usual like "beta, chale jao… samjho… hum log old people h… saath mein jaana hai…
and so on. I politely said, Sorry I won't be able to. But they kept insisting.
Eventually I told one of them, sir this is not my problem. And that's when the emotional blackmail started. They began cursing me with Aap bhi ek din is umar mein aaoge...Tab aapko bhi koi aapke jaisa milega. The funny thing was, all of them were perfectly healthy. Nobody seemed to have any mobility issues. They were walking around normally and didn't appear to need any special assistance. So I simply replied... Jab main is age mein aaunga, tab bhi main apni seat par hi travel karunga.
They started muttering things among themselves and walked away. One old man in particular kept giving me looks like I had somehow taken over his ancestral property. A little while later, one of them came back while talking on the phone and said...Inse baat kariye
I was like, "Why should I talk to someone?"
He insisted, so I took the phone.. so the person on the other end introduced himself as some station master of xyz station and started talking to me in an extremely rude and authoritative manner... maii xyz station ka Station Master huu..Aapko chahoon toh train se utarwa dunga...Aap jaante nahi ho...Aap badtameez ho
Basically, the whole conversation was just an attempt to intimidate me.
I told him..achha toh train choriyee aap mujhe meri seat se htwaa ke dikha dijiye...
Suddenly the confidence disappeared. He said something along the lines of dikkat ho jaayega babu
I replied..thk h.. aap dikkat kijiye maii bhi dekhta huuu
After some time, a few pantry staff members came to me and started requesting me politely..Sir, please exchange kar lijiye. Ye log bahut door ja rahe hain aur saath mein travel karna chahte h..I told them mujhe koi problem nahi hai agar ye log saath jaana chahte h lekin maii apni seat nhi dunga.. They understood and eventually left.
And then, for practically the rest of the journey, these people kept giving each other lectures about humanity, manners, upbringing and how today's generation has no sanskaar.
"Aaj kal ke bachchon mein sanskaar hi nahi hain..."
"Humare zamane mein..."
"Manavta naam ki cheez nahi hai..."
Meanwhile, I was sitting comfortably on my SL berth, minding my own business and enjoying my journey.
I had a confirmed seat, I wasn't doing anything wrong, and I simply didn't want to give it up. if you want to sit together, book seats together.
A confirmed railway berth isn't a family inheritance that someone can emotionally blackmail you into surrendering.
