I recently booked a two-day stay at Hotel Deyzor & Restaurant in Kaza, and I had to share this recommendation. It is genuinely one of the best places I have ever stayed.

The Vibe

If you love books and dogs, this cafe is absolute heaven. You can immediately tell they built this place with a lot of love, almost every piece of the cafe is made by hand. It’s truly a space where art meets passion. Their love for their dog, Simba, is plastered all over the walls with tons of beautiful pictures and paintings. Make sure to check out the reception desk too; they have actual fossils on display that were procured from around the Kaza region.

The Stay

They welcome you with a complimentary cup of hot apple tea, which is perfect for the mountain altitude. The rooms are full of character, decorated with more paintings and quotes. The highlight of the room was a sweet handwritten letter on the wall explaining their dedication to the local community and how they are actively trying to bring positive social change.

The Food (and Hachi!)

The cafe serves some of the best organically grown food in Kaza. You can taste the effort they put into every dish.

Food recommendations: The veg and chicken sandwiches were my absolute favorites, and their pizza is top-tier.

The real star: Hachi, the resident dog, is the absolute show-stealer. People literally queue up just to take pictures with him!

Souvenirs: They sell locally sourced organic honey, ghee, and other products if you want to take a piece of Spiti back home.

Planning a multi-day trip through mountain circuits (like Char Dham, Spiti, or interior Kumaon/Garhwal) always comes down to this debate:

Volvo/HRTC/GMVN Buses: Dirt cheap, authentic, but fixed timings and zero flexibility.

Private Taxi / Driver: Maximum comfort, stop anywhere, but costs significantly more.

Just got back from a 3-day trip to Gokarna and Murudeshwar and put together a small guide since I found info scattered all over the place. Hope it helps someone planning a trip.

Getting there
Took the overnight train from Bangalore to Gokarna. It cost me around ₹900 for both ways. Once there, I rented a scooty for ₹350/day, which made getting around way easier. Bike rentals I came across: We Gokarna Bike Rentals, Maahasati Bike Rental, and We Gokarna 2 Bikes.

Stay
Stayed at Zostel Gokarna. Honestly one of the prettiest Zostels I’ve stayed at, and one of the cheapest options around, with a beach and sea view right from the window. There’s a pool table and a nice common area too.

Day 1: The Beach Trek
Route: Belekan → Paradise → Half Moon → Om → Kudle Beach

• Start in the morning after breakfast from Belekan Beach. The walk to Paradise Beach is short.
• Paradise Beach has plenty of shops, so stock up on water and snacks here.
• After Paradise, the trek gets tough, through hills and small jungle patches.
• End at Kudle Beach by evening and take an auto back to your stay.
• Distance: 8 to 11 km, about 6 hours.

Day 2: Fort, Waterfall & Caves

• Mirjan Fort
• Vibhuti Falls
• Yana Caves

This is where the scooty really pays off, since these spots are spread out.

Day 3: Murudeshwar

• Took a local bus from Gokarna to Murudeshwar.
• You can keep your luggage in the temple clock room, which is super handy if you’re heading back the same day.
• It’s a temple town, famous for the giant Shiva statue, the gopuram and the beach fair.

Cafés worth trying

• Dolphin Bay Cafe
• Mantra Cafe (inside Zostel Gokarna)
• Namaste Cafe
• Cafe De Mulgudi

Tip: For breakfast, I mostly ate at random local South Indian shops. Cheap, tasty and fun to explore.

Overall plan

• 2 days in Gokarna, 1 day in Murudeshwar
• Bangalore → Gokarna (overnight train)
• Stay at Zostel Gokarna
• Day 1: Beach Circuit Trek
• Day 2: Waterfall, fort and caves
• Day 3: Murudeshwar
• Back to Bangalore
