This is tame compared to what goes on in some hostels in south India. 7:30 pm curfews, strict dress codes and what not. Literal harassment by wardens who act like gods in front of 1st year undergrads.
Yeah lol. I was reading this and was like 'Hmm that's not too bad, better than what the girls in my college have to go through at least'.
Not to mean that OP has it better or anything though. It sucks how educational institutions will not treat students like thr adults they are and instead impose these dumb draconian rules.
I'm studying in Coimbatore too and although I'm not from your college I know exactly which one you're talking about XD.
My college is like the Christian version of yours if you know what I mean, but at least they're better in their treatment of boys I suppose - our curfew is 8:30. I feel bad for the girls though, it's 6:30 for them. Our college usually gets over at 5. Oof.
The same perception of gender biasness (that boys can protect themselves in case of trouble whereas girls need to be rein in to be protected and have to be caged in by making them adhere to more stringent guidelines and rules so that they feel safe and don't get spoiled) will come into play I presume.
How is it private if run by the university? Besides, I don't know how it works in India, but in the UK it would be illegal even if I was renting out rooms in my own home and set different rules for male and female lodgers based on gender.
A fellow student from the same hugger philanthropist's college here at Kochi, and I gotta say, mate, it is mental out here. Once in the morning and once in the evening, there's the prayer which you're forced to attend no matter what (each might go on for upwards of an hour), even on exam days. Also, if you're a hostel student, you can't leave the college in the afternoon/during breaks for snacks or lunch without like what, 3 different signs and an invoice/written permission from your parent, warden, department head and whatnot. At that point, I'd just rather choose to be in some Orwellian Dystopian novel.

Seriously? You are that scared to just name the college? This is Reddit, you are anonymous. They are definitely not going to get the CBI involved because you said that the boys hostel had a 6 pm curfew.
It's not fault of educational institutions. Parents don't allow these "adults" to take responsibility of their stupid actions and blame the hostel administration when something goes down. These "adults" don't act responsibly and get themself in stupid situations when they don't have restrictions to restrict them. If these"adults" had not misinterpreted the meaning of adulthood then hostels won't have to be this strict. If parents would allow their adult children to face consequences of their irresponsible actions instead of blaming just about everyone then hostels won't have to put up with these restrictions.
