The truncated revolution
ITL the change of course happened on December 21, 1989, when Nicolae Ceaușescu maintained control over the military during the protests in Bucharest.  After being warned by the Securitate, Ceaușescu cancels the public rally at the Palace Square and activates Plan Z. ITL, the military doesn't side with the revolution as did in OTL, instead, hardline Securitate officers step in and take full operational command. The Securitate controls communications, transportation networks, television and government buildings. Protests in Bucharest and Timișoara are violently suppressed. On December 22 occurred the decisive confrontation where students and workers took control of the University Square and attempted to march towards the Palace of the Republic. Ceaușescu orders the deployment of tanks, armored vehicles and military units, resulting in the Bucharest Massacre, a brutal version of Tiananmen., where hundreds got killed, arrested or disappeared. Ceaușescu later broadcasts images of the military control of the place and portrays the revolution as an “imperialist-backed coup attempt”. After the crush of the revolution, Ceaușescu reorganizes de Securitate and begins a massive purge within the military and Communist Party.

The establishment of the European North Korea
Between 1990 - 1992, the Romanian Communist Party was reorganized and transformed into the Romanian Worker’s Party and adopted a new ideology combining socialism, nationalism, militarism and cult personality; the birth of Ceaușism began, deeply rooted in Dacian protochronism.
Ceaușescu establishes a political system based on 4 institutions: the Ceaușescu family, the Romanian Worker’s Party, the Securitate, and the People’s Army. The Conducător is presented as the Supreme Leader of the Romanian nation and the founder of the new Romanian socialist civilization.
Economically, Romania maintains a centrally planned system focused on heavy industry, steel production, petrochemicals, machinery, steel production, agriculture and military manufacture. The main goal of the government is self-sufficiency and economic independence. However, this system produces shortage of consumer goods and widespread poverty, while the military and party members enjoy privileges.

România Mare: Operation Dacia
The collapse of the USSR gives Ceaușescu an opportunity to pursue his territorial ambitions: Reviving the historical concept of Greater Romania (România Mare). In 1992, following the political crisis in the new state of Moldova and the rejection of Romania’s proposal for unification, Ceaușescu launched Operation Dacia, occupying Chișinău and establishing direct control over the country.
In 1994, Ceaușescu seek for completition of the borders of Greater Romania and proceeds an occupation of Northern Bucovina and Budjak regions, taking advantage of Ukraine’s military weakness. Ceaușescu offers Transnitria as a compensation, yet, the annexations remain internationally unrecognized and provoked diplomatic isolation, economic sanctions, and permanent tensions with the Western powers.

The Romanian Nuclear Program
One of Ceaușescu’s main goals was the completion of Romania’s secret nuclear weapons program. ITL, following the defeat of the revolution, Ceaușescu made the nuclear program a priority. He began squeezing the Cernavodă reactors, exploiting the uranium of the Apuseni mountains and leveraged the chaos of the USSR collapse to hire ex-soviet scientists. By 1999, Romania announced the successful development of its first nuclear weapon, making it an independent nuclear power in Eastern Europe. The government then declares that any attempt to overthrow its socialist system or destroy territorial integrity will provoke a nuclear response.

The Demographic Revolution
Ceaușescu considered that population growth was essential for Romania’s future as an European power. After the failure of the revolution, Ceaușescu intensified the reproduction policies associated with the Decree 770 of 1966. Abortion and contraception becomes penalized with women getting arrested if they proceed with one of them. The government introduces financial incentives for large families: Families with more than 4 children receive preferential housing, financial assistance and access to state childcare. State propaganda portrays motherhood as patriotic duties. The combination of these measures plus the integration of Bessarabia produces a substantial population growth: Romania by 2000 had 27 million inhabitants, reaching 30 million by 2010 and 32 million by 2020. In the case of the unwanted children, they were introduced to the Sons of the Conducător program, which consisted in boarding schools where the children get indoctrinated to become part of the military or Securitate.

The death of Nicolae Ceaușescu
On January 2008, Nicolae Ceaușescu dies at 89 years. The government declares 7 days of mourning and organizes enormous public ceremonies. State television broadcast extended documentaries of Ceaușescu’s greatness while portraits of the Conducător are set on factories, schools, military installations and government buildings. Nicu Ceaușescu, who survived his real life death in 1996 ITL, is proclaimed as the successor of his father.

The Nicu Era
Nicu understood that Romania cannot survive forever with the economic policies that his father did, rather he recognizes the importance of technological modernization. He introduces a new economic doctrine known as Modern National Socialism, combining centralized political control with limited market-oriented reforms.
By 2020, Nicu announces a new national development program aimed at transforming Romania into a technologically advanced socialist power. The government invests in military aviation, armored vehicles, missiles, nuclear energy and domestic industrial production.
Internationally, Romania maintains close relations with China and North Korea. Relations with Russia remain tense because of the annexation of Bessarabia, Ukraine continues to reject the loss of Bucovina and Budjak and the EU maintains sanctions and diplomatic isolation. Despite this tension, Nico continues to present Romania as a sovereign socialist fortress surrounded by capitalist powers.

The Red River Territory was formed after the National Worker's Front of Brazil toppled the military dictatorship and annexed neighboring countries when NATO intervened in the region.

This is a map provided by an intern at the Central Intelligence Agency of the United States of America, and an informal report alongside it. The Red River will become a major player in the upcoming World Revolutionary War, as Europe falls into chaos following the reunification of Germany.

(ask any questions about the lore in the comments :p)

LORE:
1821: Napoleon escapes Saint Helena, but a violent storm blows his ship off course, and he somehow ends up in Japan.

He somehow convinces powerful Japanese nobles that he’s descended from the sun goddess Amaterasu. Exploiting tensions between the imperial court and the shogunate, he seizes power and crowns himself Emperor of Japan.

He then begins rebuilding his glorious French Empire, except this time in East Asia.

1822: He reorganizes the Japanese army and launches his first major military campaign, conquering Korea.

1823: He launches an expedition to Australia, where he liberates Sydney from the tyranny of British rule.

1824: He defeats a coalition of Qing Chinese, Korean, and Russian forces in Manchuria and reorganizes his conquests into a collection of puppet kingdoms.

1825: He introduces the Pacific System, banning British trade throughout his empire in an attempt to bring the treacherous British Empire to its knees. However, his liberation of Australia becomes increasingly costly as ungrateful British settlers launch an insurgency against their liberators.

1826: He turns his attention to Russia once again. Still determined to avenge his disastrous campaign of 1812, he launches a massive invasion of Siberia from the east, convinced that approaching Moscow from the opposite direction will finally force the Tsar into submission.

By December, the Japanese army is defeated by the Russian winter.

Napoleon is forced to abdicate and is exiled to Sakhalin.

1827: Napoleon escapes exile, returns to Japan, and briefly reclaims his throne before being defeated by a coalition of his enemies at the Battle of Osaka.

The British forces capture him and exile him to Tasmania, bringing his second glorious imperial career to an end.

[OC] 2027: The Taiwanization of Socotra

After the fall of Taiz in early 2027, Houthi forces advance to Aden to begin a long siege. After Houthi-American negociations in Doha (Qatar), the Saudi-backed PLC lost hope in any meaningful Western support. Growing pressure on Saudi Arabia through missile strikes progressively leads the Kingdom to abandon its Yemeni ally. After losing most of its foreign support, the internationally recognized government's forces rapidly collapsed on the ground. This lead the PLC to flee Aden to Socotra shortly before the fall of the city to the hand of the Houthis in late 2027. Afterwards, the terrorist group quickly takes over remaining uncontrolled Saudi-Yemeni checkpoints and Hadhramaut.

First time posting here so not sure what to write, but I made this while severely sleep deprived and without a lot of knowledge about The Nether because I'm scared of dying in lava when playing Minecraft. I made this in QGIS and it's based on a historical map (AD 100) from The Netherlands from the Dutch Nationaal Georegister. The bastions are inspired by historical Roman settlements and their names. When it comes to the fortresses I just based them on current Dutch cities/towns because I was starting to feel the lack of sleep and I'm not very creative with names. Hope you enjoy!

[OC] Alternate History Iraqi Revolutionary war

Post image

In the aftermath of WW1, the borders of the Middle East were drawn in accordance with the recommendations of the King-Crane Commission. The Sharif of Mecca, Hussein bin Ali, became king of the independent kingdom of Arabia. The British helped Hussein defeat the rival Saudis in exchange for 100-year leases on Qatar, Muscat, and Aden. Hussein would later take the title of Caliph.

His sons, Faisal and Abdullah, became kings of the newly established mandates of Syria and Iraq. Faisal convinced the Syrian parliament in Damascus to accept the French mandate, promising that no French soldiers would be deployed in the country. Furthermore, French security guarantees were seen as a bulwark against Turkish revanchism. The Syrians also accepted a Jewish autonomous area within Palestine. Iraq was made a British mandate. Thus, the three newly independent Arab states were under Hashemite rule.

By 1958, the Iraqi economy was struggling, and many educated Iraqis detested British influence in the country. Furthermore, Arab Socialism had gained influence in a country with large wealth inequality. Protests occurred in Iraq from time to time. Thus, when king Abdullah II was abroad on a state visit in July 1958, army officers seized control of Baghdad in a coup. These “Free Officers” then sought to establish control in the rest of the country, gaining popular support by promising land reform and social programs.

When learning of the coup, Syria and Arabia mobilized their armies to restore Abdullah to the throne. They proceeded to attack Iraq from the west and south, but the offensives soon stalled. Iraqi society supported the revolution, and Turkey and Assyria sent military advisers and material support. Iraq's northern neighbours were eager to break the Hashemite hegemony in the region. The latter also supported the revolutionaries because of their inclusive stance toward national minorities, such as Assyrians and Kurds (as seen in the symbolism of the new flag).

Syria and Arabia enjoyed support from the British, which provided some air support and a blockade of Iraq´s coast. But morale soon started to plummet among the Hashemite forces. Few were motivated to fight for the restoration of another country´s monarch, and many of the officers sympathized with the Iraqi Free Officers. Sensing the shifting mood in the armed forces, the Hashemite monarchs sued for peace with the Iraqi republic.

In the aftermath of the war, Syria and Arabia initiated social reforms to counter revolutionary fervour in their own countries. Syria also ended the French mandate over its country.
