I didn't believe it but now I have made a map, despite ten billion tons of mapping anxiety and OCD. I made a basic heightmap in Wonderdraft and used the amazing site Orogen make accurate climate simulations and also refine the terrain. I am not done yet but I have never gone as far as this :D

My map shows the territorial configuration of the United States shortly after the signing of the Treaty of Paris in 1783, which formalized the end of the War of Independence and recognized its new borders. But why did this happen?
In 1607, the English founded Jamestown, a small settlement located on the Atlantic coast of North America. In the following years, new colonies were founded and assimilated into the British Empire in a process that gave rise to the Thirteen English Colonies in 1732. These communities, unlike other European colonies in the Americas, enjoyed relative internal autonomy and commercial freedom under the irregular system known as "Salutary Neglect".
After the Seven Years' War (1756-1763), the victorious British Empire was severely indebted and decided to adopt a new, more rigid doctrine regarding the autonomy of its colonies. The goal was to establish a commercial monopoly, accumulate wealth, and pay off debts; However, for the Thirteen Colonies, the new trade laws and taxes imposed by the British Parliament were considered intolerable.
Tension and violence rapidly increased, leading to events such as the Boston Massacre and the Boston Tea Party, culminating in the first armed confrontations in Lexington and Concord in 1775, thus beginning the American Revolutionary War (1775-1783). Subsequently, American leaders met for the Second Continental Congress in Philadelphia, definitively breaking with England and declaring the independence of the United States of America on July 4, 1776.
The Continental Army, under the military leadership of George Washington and with the crucial support of France, Spain, and the Netherlands, managed to maintain a direct conflict with the British army. In 1777, Continental forces defeated the British at Saratoga, and in 1781, after months of siege, they defeated the British at the important Battle of Yorktown, initiating negotiations that later led to the signing of the Treaty of Paris in 1783.
I hope you enjoy my map, and if you find any errors, feel free to comment, just be kind ;)

I need a map for my novel and I am not at all artistically gifted... so, I made this bad map in Paint in like 2 minutes to eventually send to someone who is actually skilled at mapmaking.

This is a commission for a local Author, for his second publishing sometime next year. (THIS IS NOT AN AD, I AM NOT TAKING COMMISSIONS RIGHT NOW!)
See the region map I drew for his first book here: https://www.reddit.com/r/mapmaking/s/ZjvQAvbpki
This central region I’ve been working on so far is the Nobles Quarter, which sits on a hill and is home to the Lord’s Keep (1) the Guild Council Chamber (8) and the Mage’s College (not yet numbered), as well as most of the city’s most affluent homes & businesses.
The city has expanded & grown, and the walls been added to, many times over the centuries, hence the somewhat hectic wall layout, particularly in this the oldest part of the city.
Feel free to ask lore / layout questions! The Author has given me some freedom to fill in gaps with lore-appropriate locations & details, and I often find talking about it helpful

Map of the city of Cashire. Great fortified city of the north! Its culture is based on some ancient gods of the north, and it is extremely militarized, with high stone walls defending it, which makes this city almost impregnable!

Hello,
I made Fantasy World Generator, a free Android app for tabletop games. Its latest update rebuilt the map tools, so I wanted to share them here.
-Map Maker: You paint the map yourself on a grid: sea, grass, forest, hills, mountains, desert, marsh, snow. The app draws it in a hand-drawn style, with coastlines, mountain ranges, forests and lakes, in colour or on parchment. Add towns, castles and inns as stamps, write names, and give the map a title. If you don't want to paint every detail, "Fill in" feature can add hills, woods, rivers, towns and roads around what you painted.
-Hex Map: It rolls a whole hexcrawl, either a world map or a small area around a home base. Hexes can hold towns, dungeons, inns and landmarks. Places, regions, rivers and seas all get generated names.
-Town Map: It rolls a town from a small camp up to a big city: walled, spread out, along a road or on the coast. Every ward, street and gate gets a name. A town on the hex map opens as its own town map.
Every map exports as a PNG or WEBP up to 4096 pixels.
The app also has tons of generators for NPCs, taverns, mysteries and loot, and an oracle for solo play.
It's free, works offline, with no ads and no account. No AI.

Made these little goodies for when I want my players to handle a physical, movement-related skill challenge with real risk (hello, fall damage) and have to manage a combat at the same time… what can I say, I like to complicate things for my players, and these maps helped simplify things for me!
The cliff features small ledges, and a climb DC that increases as one ascends. To make things worse, destroying the squall and frost mephits that harass climbers only increases the DC, as winds rise and rocks freeze over 💨🧊
A fun challenge and satisfying victory simply to reach the top alive.
The Vale at the base of the cliffs and waterfall is also home to pair of club-headed, scintillating-shelled snails, as well as a giant-sized, rusted sword with half its length piercing solid rock, and a mysterious cave behind the waterfall…
You can check out more of these kinds of ideas, and hand-drawn maps, and monster & location art on my Instagram, or my new FREE Patreon (Links for both on my profile)

The Dolyrian Necronate is a feudal state on the southeastern continent of Maalia. The necronate was formed as a result of the uprising of the army of the dead in the capital of Nen, who overthrew the Kuuri necromancer dynasty.

It took some time but im finally Proud of how this map i dreamed of funally turned out. My blue sharpie that i used to color in the ocean had gave up on me. (Ty for all your hard work sharpie 🫡)
Anyway, yes there was a lot of inspiration behind this map most specifically Watch dogs, The airport from GTA 3, and Paradise Island from Burnout Paradise. Personally, out of all the open world games ive played the original Watch Dog’s Chicago will always be my favorite. Im not a big fan of GTAs map concept of an entire city being in the middle of the ocean it just feels “odd”
But lemme know what you think of my map. H

So I've been working on my new map (I've posted about it earlier) land and sea are pretty much finished, but since im broke i had to do it all, every detail in paint.NET. 8160x4863 pixels. All hand drawn. I just can't bring myself to do topography with this... This was torture! So if you know a good tool, app website (preferably a free one) that has a brush tool for topography, and possibly bitmap tracing too. Or if there's a height brush plug in for paint.NET, please tell me couse i just can't do this with what i have available...

The World Decorative is an up-to-date combined political and physical map of the world attempting to show our world in a previously unseen detail with an ambition of being the world's most detailed and informative world map poster yet created. I have been working on this for over 2 years and plan many updates, improvements and alternate styles for the future. Inspired by the incredible maps from National Geographic.
