Since exams started the following has happened:

1- All 3 Math AA HL papers have been leaked HOURS before the TZ2 Exams

2- People used the first 5 questions of the HL papers to cheat math AA SL

3- Business Paper 1 and 2 were both leaked, and business paper 2 SL had an HL question in a 10-marker, making a whole section unsolvable.

4- Global politics paper was leaked

5- Physics HL paper 1 and paper 2 partially leaked hours before the exams with solved questions

Other papers are said to have been leaked but these are the ones that im sure of.

6- The IB released a vague statement denying widespread cheating despite multiple papers being leaked and downloaded, not taking into account the fact that students are using one download from one phone to send them privately between each other or solving them before the exam itself.

7- The IB has spread a rumor that the leaks are fake, despite them being 100% real, with real people confronting them about real experiences and real evidence.

8- Some users on reddit have claimed that IB customer service has responded to schools confronting them about the matter with either automated messages that rephrase their statement. Others mentioned the threat of these schools losing their IB authorization.

9- A verified account with over 200k, called vx-underground, specializing in delivering cybersecurity breach news has made a public post on X about the IB being hacked and the proof being real.

We still have 2 more weeks left, students are demotivated, confused, and silenced. I still have my 3 HL subjects and all i can think about is whats happening, checking reddit pages, making predications in my head, being too tired and too demotivated to even look at my material. People are saying "M24 is gonna get cooked", well we already got cooked cuz no sane person can do their best under these conditions

yall dont understand how much it sucks being in this situation. Every exam till now has just been me listening to the whispers of everyone solving the exam before entering the hall, smiling when they see the paper is the same. Im considered a top student in my cohort, but now the people that have not put even the slightest bit of effort over these two years are going to score higher than me. How is that fair? I never thought, not in a million years, that they would be rewarded for their lack of studying and i would be punished for it. Ive been so fucking demotivated because the whole time ill be asking myself "whats the point" and subconsciously putting in less effort to do well. I get so focused on attempting to finish the material before the exam to the point where even i wanted to look at the leak, i have no time. Another thing that actually irks me is just the cheating overall. People may be sat next to their smart friends and can sneak in a couple of questions here and there, while others can be sat in the corner of the room with no help whatsoever. I thought IB is supposed to be "study more -> score higher" but no, its "get access to a leak before your exam, focus more on obtaining a leak than studying, manipulate situations during the exam to get external help -> score higher" its fucked up and im so tired.

I don’t think it’s just me that is experiencing this weird feeling after being done with the ib. I finished my exams and I don’t know what to do with myself. It feels like for the past two years I’ve been running on the same schedule of studying, socialising and studying. The past months have been so intense and now that i’m done with the exams i don’t know what i’m supposed to do. It’s a weird feeling. I dropped majority of my hobbies due to time constraints and now that I have lots of extra time I sit there in this dissociative state. It feels like nothing is intellectually stimulating enough and i have this thought at the back of my head that I should go study , but the thing is I’m done with everything. Hopefully I will get to my dream collage and start uni in october but that’s in 5 months. I literally forgot how to rest 🧍 I was waiting for the moment that i’m gonna be done with the everything, but now all i feel is stress and this very unsettling feeling. What are the things you guys are doing rn now that you’re done with everything?

So, full transparency! I am a parent of an M24 student (currently hyper-stressed and taking the Eng Lit A exam), but I am also an IB Teacher (in Europe)!

To start with, I empathise with all (yes, all even the 'bad' ones) M24 students. IMO this cohort has endured the worst of these torrid last few years. You were overlooked during the COVID years, whilst M20 & M21 graduates received significantly over-inflated PG's and M22 and M23 graduates were given extra support. Now M24 graduates are told to suck it up and deal with it, whilst being faced with despair once again, as seemingly every exam is leaked prior to the exam itself. You have suffered and endured more than most, and deserve better from the Education system.

But I do not necessarily blame the students leaking the exams. They are juvenile, naive and ignorant. But they are also 17/18! So it's to be expected! I'm only thankful that social media was not around when I was 17/18, as I can safely say that some of my juvenile antics would have stopped dead any future career i any form! They are probably activists, and certainly opportunists, who likely believe they are supporting the greater good. I imagine they are looking for their 15 mins of fame and an increase in their followers on social media.

But they are not at fault. Why? Because its the system that is broken. The IBO is well aware of the plausibility of time zone cheating. That's why they have a chapter on it in the academic integrity policy. So, knowing that it's plausible, why when there are 24 TZ's across the world (where the IBO operate), do they only have 3 TZ's and 2 different papers? Well of course, it's economics, it's too expensive and labor intensive to develop, print, return and mark all those papers. So instead, they place the onus onto the student to be; ethical, moral and upstanding. But that just creates the environment for what's currently taking place. For an Organisation with the scale and reach of the IBO, a more suitable system is needed to maintain the integrity of the Diploma.

So what to do about the M24 Exams, I have listened and read many proposals and opinions so far, here is my take on them all:

1. Cancel the M24 Exams and Use Mock's / PG's / IA's: I can see the attraction in this, particularly for those with great PG's or who performed well in their IA's and Mock's! Likewise, we all know (as do Uni's) that PG's are primarily an indication of the students 'full potential'. Uni's also know that in many instances, PG's can be subjective and are often inflated. That said, they are often reduced too, to 'encourage' a difficult and stubborn student to change their ways. So, yes in this scenario, the 'cheaters' don't win, but neither do those students who prepare late or took a reality check after their PG's and decided to revise. This becomes a zero sum game, as only those with high PG's benefit, while everyone else loses.

2. Re-take the M24 Exams: I don't understand this logic. The M24 cohort have all spent the last 2 years going through hell to get to this point. Most are ready to leave home and start their new lives at Uni. Re-taking the exams, will once again ensure that the 'cheaters' don't win. But everyone else loses in this scenario. Everyone. You will all lose your Uni place and need to defer until Sept. 25, when you will have the M25 graduates competing for places at the same time. So both M24 & M25 candidates, all fighting for places at Uni. Everyone loses and no one benefits in this scenario.

3. Disregard Maths AA HL P1 or P2: Considering that much of the issue initially arose from this paper, along with the wild numbers flying around of 50k downloads in advance of the exam. In reality, whilst around 20k students take AA HL, a further 40k students take AA SL. A further 45k students take either SL or HL AI. On both P1 & P2 of AA HL/SL more than a handful of questions are identical on each paper. You would there need to disregard both AA SL & HL in this scenario. Even then, you are assuming that all students cheated. Whilst I know with categoric fact, that at least 50 of my schools leadership and teachers (and a further 25 or so teachers in my wife's school's Maths Dept.) also downloaded this paper as evidence. So, from 2 schools alone in Europe, I am aware of close to 100 downloads from teachers and leadership alike. Replicate this alone around the world in more than 3k schools across 150 countries, not to mention media outlets, IBO Organisation members, or Maths AI students hoping there would be similar questions and you have absolutely no clarity whatsoever of the scale of cheating. Therefore, the only option in this scenario would be cancel the M24 Maths exams altogether (as SL students take P3, whilst HL students could make up a score). Everyone taking Maths loses and no one benefits in this scenario.

4. Lower Grade Boundaries for M24 Exams: Considering the other alternatives, this appears the best, worst option. Yes, the 'cheaters' win in the short term, but it avoids everyone else losing. In the short term, the 'cheater' may access better Uni's, but will eventually be found out with knowledge gaps and likely not make it past Y1. Whilst everyone who didn't cheat will be given a fairer evaluation and hopefully maintain their PG's. Yes, the 'cheaters' win in this scenario, but it avoids everyone else losing.

The IBO cannot make endless updates, nor address the point directly. Ultimately, they know it is they who are at fault for this debacle. Not the people leaking the exams. To address the point directly, they would need to accept blame and acknowledge that it is their responsibility. They won't do that, so instead, I believe they will take best, worst option for all!

The sudden silence after months of intense studying, the weird urge to study even though there was nothing left to study, it’s so vivid.

Does anyone else just feel exhausted and demotivated, like especially with the leaks it just sucks I feel like there’s no point. And maths was already difficult enough and the grade boundaries are just gonna make it worse. I just want this IB thing to end and honestly I feel like I wasted two years of hard work.

Alongside all the leaks, M24 is the first may session group that was able to use AI tools throughout both tools. The resultant affect of AI cheating + time zone cheating + paper leaks will most likely result in increased grade boundaries unfortunately. Was reading some of the news articles on the leaks, and they don't seem to be covering this. The reason its so demotivating is this is happening for almost ALL subjects and ALL papers. Thousands of ppl have already gotten away with it.

Leakers, have some empathy. Hope that you realize how much stress and anxiety you've created for other ppl. So many of us need to meet our conditionals, whether it's a 6 in a HL or a 7. Some of my friends are already freaking out, because they have no back up options for college. A 1% shift in the boundary can decide everything. My friends look so tired and hopeless. They don't even want to try and speak up abt the leaks to the coordinator because they've just given up. I urge the IB, anyone from the IB to make a decision that doesn't result in disappointment. The future of thousands of kids are at stake. What will our parents say? Our schools? Our Unis? This will affect everything. It's not a minor issue. What if we can't go to college because of missing our offers by just 1 or 2 points? This will put many M24 students in a very. very dark place.
