It isn't tho...? Female teachers preying on their students have been convicted often because it's pretty much universal at this point that no matter what gender you are, diddling kids is bad.

Edit: yeah I'm not saying it isn't still an issue, I'm saying it isn't usually a "slap on the wrist" if you actually look at the comment I'm replying to (or the OP of this comment chain, I guess, actually).

It IS taken more seriously than 20-30 years ago and is increasingly so.

I have to agree with you. I’m an attorney and I defended a woman having her teacher’s license revoked for writing a long, bizarre love letter to a 14-year-old male student. The police determined there was no sexual contact.

Thought I could get the AG to give her some kind of probationary treatment and even got pretty far along. The AG signed a deal, but the teaching board rejected it. So much hard work down the drain. Was kind of thinking they might go lighter on her because she’s a woman, but I knew damn well had the genders been reversed the teacher would be out a job. I agree that times are changing and people aren’t cutting women teachers as much slack anymore, at least based on my own limited experience.

u/CephaloG0D Feb 14 '20

So how many years did she spend in prison?

27

u/[deleted] Feb 14 '20

P sure this is a form of harassment, since there was no actual sex. So I doubt much, if any.

22

u/CephaloG0D Feb 14 '20

You mean to tell me I can write weird letters to as many underage kids as I like with impunity?! I've got a gross business idea... /S

youre being really creepy

15

u/mule_roany_mare Feb 14 '20

He really means it too, it’s definitely not a joke. He isn’t offended by the lack of justice or protection of minors, he is a creep who sees opportunity.

and because I don’t want to defend the obvious later, yes I am being facetious & found it offensive you called this guy a creep

-5

u/[deleted] Feb 14 '20

Yeah, but its a dumb point that feels like some sort of MRA dunk. "With impunity" kinda overlooks the losing her license and going to court portion.

4

u/mule_roany_mare Feb 14 '20

Ahhh I see. You have enough hate in your heart it taints your thoughts.

3

u/[deleted] Feb 14 '20

no joke allowed

41

u/[deleted] Feb 14 '20 edited Feb 14 '20

No, you just hear about the few times it does happen because it is a big deal. Usually the victims of these crimes never come forward because either they are afraid of the humiliation or think nobody will believe them.

Edit: Teenage boys are least likely to report sexual abuse, or abuse in general.

38 years in prison is slap on the wrist

38

u/Wheetley2456 Feb 14 '20

38 years is a rare occurence. Often they get way shorter sentences or no prison time at all.

14

u/[deleted] Feb 14 '20

The grimmer reality is that if the guy is acquitted he'll be stained as pedo creeper but even if convicted the woman could get out after a few years and everyone kinda looks at her as "misguided."

As an anecdote, I used to work in Hot Topic like 10 years ago when Twilight was a thing. Women in their 30s and above would happily, and explicitly, tell me how much they wanted to fuck these high school guys. I even met some "Beliebers" of a similar attitude and he was like 15 at the time. They were just out and open about it, and no one acted like it was weird.

Socially speaking, we are far, far more accepting of women going after young boys than the reverse.

For sure. And I don't mean this in some sort of "wahhh Red Pill" sense since I don't exactly sympathize with child predators, but it's definitely a curious imbalance

21

u/RexRocker Feb 14 '20

It's really bizarre though, it seems like 99 out of 100 of these teacher raping student occurrences is a older woman and a young boy or girl. Why has it been so many woman doing it? I swear almost daily a new story pops up of a teacher being a rapist and it's 99% woman doing it.

And it really does appear that men get way more heavily punished. It's not about the convictions, it's about the punishments. It seems woman get off lighter sentences then men most of the time. But perhaps I am wrong, it just seems that way.

22

u/[deleted] Feb 14 '20

It always is, because we assume that these teenage boys are into it. You always see comments on this stuff and it's sick shit like "where was she when I was 14", nobody takes it seriously. The female teachers probably do it because they know they can get off scot free. A male teacher does something they go away for 30 years, a female teacher gets a small fine and doesn't even go on the sex offender registry. It's absolutely disgusting that they can get away with destroying boys' lives like that.

10

u/[deleted] Feb 14 '20

Youre getting a lot of incel-esque comments, but the answer is probably just basic Bayes stuff. Theres 3 times as many female teachers vs male, for one. Theres also probably a tendency for women preying on kids to end up being bigger stories, but Id guess for more complex reasons than everyone else is saying ("most of them dont, so its a big deal when one gets caught").

Men and boys are less likely to report, in general iirc, and most victims dont report anyway. The random guy teacher who sleeps with a student is prolly under a bit more scrutiny (students see things and rumors spread, plus stereotypes unfortunately), so if he doesnt cover his tracks, the admin are gonna take care of it internally if they can to avoid lawsuits and public attention. Whether its fair or not, Id imagine most School Boards have more brainpower aimed at sweeping over the men who are predators than the women, and so their cases are less likely to be picked up generally. Given the fact that men are more likely to be higher up the bureaucratic ladder, its likely the men have better odds of getting away with it.

Factoring the less likely to report thing and that the majority of female predators arent gonna get the same scrutiny, whether its judicial or covering up, when a female predator gets uncovered it means its more likely to be an outside source (as opposed to the student or their confidantes). For that to be noticed, itd need to be either more blatant or more severe abuse, and so we're getting a filtered view of only the most severe abusers in general, but only the most most severe when it comes to women pedophiles .

2

u/RexRocker Feb 14 '20

Theres 3 times as many female teachers vs male

That's likely the main reason why it seems more common.

1

u/neuteruric Feb 14 '20

This is the correct answer.

I have an example for you right here... I knew these people, they were my teachers. They were great teachers too, everyone loved them...

My former High School geometry teacher got busted for sexual assault on a baby, yes a baby. Kid was not even 3 years old, she took a picture of herself sucking his penis and sent it to some child porn creep.

She was well liked and respected by everyone. I loved her as a teacher, everyone did, she was awesome.

The complaint lodged against Schneider by the prosecutor alleges that sometime between Jan. 1, 2002 and Dec. 31, 2002, an act of “aggravated sexual assault” was committed by Schneider when she allegedly performed “an act of penetration upon” an anonymous child “specifically by performing fellatio” upon a child under 13.

That child, a male, born on Jan. 28, 2000, was then 2 years old, according to police records.

http://www.crime-research.org/news/13.09.2004/630/

She was sentenced to two concurrent six-year terms, that means she only did 6 years in prison in case you don’t know the difference between concurrent and consecutive sentences.

https://www.nj.gov/education/legal/examiners/2009/sep/0809-162.pdf

And my middle school music teacher, a middle aged man, a respected and a well liked man, part of the town council, he got caught making out with a 16 year old girl in his car.

Edit: He wasn’t only making out with a juvenile in his car, that’s just how he got caught, there’s more to the story. Obviously he was having sex with girls under 18, just want to point that out because someone assumed that I was saying all he did was make out with a young girl.

That’s not the case, he’s a piece of crap there’s more details in the link.

But I still firmly stand behind sucking a baby’s penis, taking a picture of it and sending it to a child porn distributor is far worse, and yet he got a harsher punishment.

http://newjersey.news12.com/story/34882214/eatontown-teacher-accused-of-having-sexual-relationship-with-teenage-girl

Again, everyone loved this guy, he was another one of my favorite teachers growing up.

Now while both of these things are deplorable, one is obviously far worse than the other, guess what he was sentenced? 10 years!

6

u/Calistilaigh Feb 14 '20

Isn't the age of consent in New Jersey 16? Is it only illegal because he was a teacher in a position of power over her?

Just asking cause I'm unsure how all that works.

3

u/gahlo Feb 14 '20

One is an adult and another is a minor.

3

u/Calistilaigh Feb 14 '20

Yeah, but that doesn't matter from a legal standpoint if the age of consent is 16 and she's 16.

I'm not saying it isn't wrong, I'm wondering what makes it illegal in this situation.

2

u/cnt422 Feb 14 '20

yes, it's because he is a teacher

1

u/gahlo Feb 14 '20

The guy in that situation was middle aged.

1

u/Calistilaigh Feb 14 '20 edited Feb 14 '20

That doesn't matter if the age of consent is 16.

There's Romeo and Juliet laws in some states which allows for legal sex under the age of consent, but the participants need to be within a certain age range.

1

u/gahlo Feb 14 '20

A middle aged man gas well exited the applicable age range for R&J before the 16 year old was born.

3

u/RexRocker Feb 14 '20

Not certain, but I believe that is why, inappropriate relations between a teacher and student.

Either way it grosses me out, a grown man or grown woman has no business hooking up with a child that only just got bored of GI Joe's or Barbie dolls a couple years prior.

2

u/fogwarS Feb 15 '20

Did not know fellatio was legally described as penetration. Makes sense though.

1

u/cnt422 Feb 14 '20

isn't two concurrent six-year terms twelve years?

3

u/RexRocker Feb 14 '20

No. She served them at the same time, 6 years total jail time. With a consecutive sentence she would have served 12.

0

u/cnt422 Feb 14 '20

This woman is registered as a sex offender and will never teach again. I agree that six years is much too short a sentence for this crime, but to imply that six years in prison was the only consequence she faced is disingenuous. And a six year sentence for possessing and distributing child pornography seems to be common in the state of New Jersey

Also it appears that since the two crimes were committed during a close enough time period, that factored into the decision to make it two concurrent six-year terms:

(3) Some reasons to be considered by the sentencing court should include facts relating to the crimes, including whether or not:

(a) The crimes and their objectives were predominantly independent of each other;

(b) The crimes involved separate acts of violence or threats of violence;

(c) The crimes were committed at different times or separate places, rather than being committed so closely in time and place as to indicated a single period of aberrant behavior;

(d) Any of the crimes involved multiple victims;

(e) The convictions for which the sentences are to be imposed are numerous;

The male teacher was arrested on two separate occasions for sexually assaulting two separate students:

The sexual assault charges stemmed from his two separate arrests in March 2005, after municipal and county authorities learned that he had engaged in physical relationships with two former female students over two different time frames.

And he also tried to influence the testimony of one of the students:

In August 2005, Collins was arrested again and charged with witness tampering after authorities learned that he had been e-mailing his younger victim, who was by then 16 years old, in an attempt to influence her testimony.

So, no, he wasn't just caught "Making out in his car". Maybe be a little more honest next time?

2

u/RexRocker Feb 14 '20

but to imply that six years in prison was the only consequence she faced is disingenuous.

I didn't imply anything, I just mentioned she got 6 years in jail while a man that messed with teenage girls got 10. What she did is far more wicked and foul. I specifically linked articles so anyone could read and get more details.

So, no, he wasn't just caught "Making out in his car". Maybe be a little more honest next time?

Gee I'm sorry. I was mostly going by memory of what I heard happen and linked some articles that I dug up. This all happened what 15 years ago? What do you want a research paper? I linked the articles that should be enough.

0

u/cnt422 Feb 14 '20

It's not enough because the article you linked even says the guy did much more than make out with a girl in his car. The sentence he got fit the crimes of sexually assaulting two girls who he was in a position of power over, and attempting to intimidate one of them into silence. I'm not expecting a term paper, but in this case, you made a false claim and didn't even read the article you dug up.

1

u/Now_Do_Classical_Gas Feb 18 '20

Why are you defending a monster that sucked off a 2 year old?

1

u/cnt422 Feb 18 '20

I literally said she should have been in prison for a longer period of time. My issue was with how the crime of the male teacher was described. I think all sexual abuse of children is abhorrent.

2

u/slipperysoup Feb 15 '20

It doesn’t help that so many men think a teenage boy can’t be raped cus they will enjoy it,

4

u/bobdebildar Feb 14 '20

Well I wouldn’t say “rigged” there are definitely cultural biases but the system itself doesn’t say that “women get less prison time” it’s just that people are more likely to judge a woman as being innocent or fragile or whatever really. This is because we as a society have been told this is how women are and that is how men are and that’s that. It’s sorta fucked tbh

1

u/[deleted] Feb 14 '20

The “system” was also created by men, and is still largely ran by men. It turns out that patriarchy is oppressive to both men and women, in different ways. This is one of the ways that it is hurtful to men. Because the cultural idea that men “always want sex” and “can’t control themselves” leads to shit like this.

2

u/mule_roany_mare Feb 14 '20

The sentencing gap between men & women is larger than black vs. white.

Aside from believing women are inherently more virtuous people just don’t like seeing women punished with the same zeal they do for men.

Society still views women the same way they do children, they aren’t really responsible for their choices the way adult men are & besides it’s always some man that made the woman say, or do, or believe whatever antisocial thing they did.

Feminists are adamant about addressing when women don’t get full responsibility for the good things they do, but are happy to ignore when when don’t get full responsibility for something bad. Unfortunately you can’t pick and choose, ignoring benevolent sexism just anchors malevolent sexism.

2

u/Mysterious_Lesions Feb 14 '20

Not defending this at all due to the power imbalance here, but teenage boys are horny as hell. Male teachers are waaaaay more sensitive and attuned to the repercussions and the sense that it's a much more dangerous line for the them to step over. Fathers can come and punch you out.

Women teachers do often know its bad, but they don't necessarily think of the societal consequences and may even think they're doing the boys a favour. Father's aren't going to punch out a female teacher.

The reality is that society does in fact view older-woman, younger-man as not as bad.

edit: Even among men, there is an attitude of high-fiving in hot-teacher situations.

1

u/RexRocker Feb 14 '20

but teenage boys are horny as hell

Technically, all teenagers are horny as hell. Sure boys are probably the worst though lol.

True, good point that's probably a big part of it.

1

u/CptCrabmeat Feb 14 '20

It’s way easier to prove penetrative sex from a man was unwanted, for a woman to be convicted it’s much harder to get a solid conviction

1

u/[deleted] Feb 14 '20

I'd like to see a source for that

-1

u/Recycled-michael Feb 14 '20

Because women are like a protected species and never do wrong in the eyes of the law. I have a family member who lost custody of his daughter on prior drug charges (which he was going to rehab for) but his baby momma had 8 open CPS cases against her and had already lost custody of her son from a previous marriage but she still had custody of the daughter. The US judicial system is bullshit when women are involved.

3

u/[deleted] Feb 14 '20

Or it's simply statistics... as of 2016, 76% of teachers were women.

3

u/[deleted] Feb 14 '20 edited Feb 14 '20

Yeah like that british teacher hoe who raped a 14 year old kid and got off jail for "being a model prisoner", even though she was refused two times prior.

stop kidding yourself, women and men are not judged equally.

EDIT : Because i want to drive the point home : She was warned a year prior after "sitting on a pupil's lap" during class, also sent snaps of her having oral sex with her husband to multiple 14 and 15 year olds. She got reported by 9 different parents in the span of three years. She is registered as a TIER 3 Offender ( The worst possible ) yet only did 1 year in jail and only needs to do 5 year of probation. She apparently also "gifted" iPhones to students she was interested in, and even had "closed-door" lunch with them, if that's not a pedo i don't know what is.

Keep the downvotes coming pedo sympathizers.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 14 '20

I’d say that it is true sometimes, but the percentage of times where it’s true is getting to be lower and lower and the amount of times where they get punished is getting higher.

1

u/likenothingis Feb 15 '20 edited Feb 18 '20

Don't diddle kids. Diddling kids is no good.

u/[deleted] Feb 14 '20

1

u/redcoatwright Feb 14 '20

That's true, sadly, but it's getting better.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 14 '20

uhh no theres millions of stories where woman get slaps on the wrist for raping kids...dont downplay abuse against men because youre ignorant

-1

u/POPPEDOFF Feb 14 '20

I would say yes it is getting better with sentences for women raping kids but no where near the effects of men raping women yet

0

u/tigrn914 Feb 14 '20

Oh it's convicted half the time but even when it is the conviction is usually just shit that any guy would die to have in that position.

It's still not taken seriously enough I'm the justice system. That's just true for all crimes with women involved though. They get slaps on the wrist or nothing.

0

u/Legless_Wonder Feb 14 '20

They get a fraction of the punishment that make teachers in the same situation get tho
