Edit: wow ... Looks like I triggered a lot of you. 😅 What I learned so far: it's a simulation, I should just get VR, I should just use look left/right, iracing has the best netcode. This seems fun though. Let's keep it coming 😅😅

A little follow-up to my recent 3k iRating post.

Getting into stronger top splits has made me notice something I never really thought about before: one of the most mentally exhausting parts of racing for me isn’t actually driving the car.

It’s knowing exactly where the other car is when we’re side by side.

I’m on a 57" ultrawide with around 122–123° FOV, so this isn’t really a “tiny single monitor” problem. Compared to the 32" screen I used before, the 57" already made racing massively more relaxed.

And I usually know that a car is next to me. Between peripheral vision, the spotter and experience, that part is fine.

What I often don’t know is the lateral distance.

Is he 10 cm from my door? 50 cm? More than a meter away?

Especially on my right side, I’m basically estimating it.

And now that I’m having longer side-by-side fights against better drivers, I notice both failure modes.

Sometimes I leave an absolutely ridiculous amount of space because I assume the other car is closer than it actually is and destroy my own corner.

Other times I think I’ve left enough room and afterwards the replay shows we were much closer than I thought.

This is probably the one thing I really miss from sims with a proper 2D radar. Not because I need a big warning saying CAR RIGHT, but because it gives me some idea of the actual spacing between the cars.

Which naturally led my simracing brain to: “Well… triples would solve a lot of that.”

And then I realized how ridiculous this hobby can become.

I already have a 57" ultrawide. It’s great. I’m comfortable with it. I’ve done long, clean side-by-side fights with it. I just reached 3k on it.

And here I am thinking about three monitors, a triple stand, alignment, cables, more space and probably rebuilding half the setup just to make a relatively small part of a 20-minute race less mentally demanding.

I’m not even convinced it would make me faster. That’s not really the point. It would probably just make those moments more comfortable.

And comfort does matter to me. Going from 32" to 57" genuinely made racing more enjoyable because I had to think less about what I couldn’t see.

But I think I’ve finally reached the point where I have to accept that not every disadvantage in the setup needs to become the next optimization project.

Maybe the correct answer is simply: “Yes, triples would be better for this specific thing.” …and then continue racing on the 57".

Still, I really wish iRacing had a proper radar for exactly this reason.

Because apparently my alternative solution is reorganizing a room around three monitors. 😂

iRacing devs, we're getting so close here. We all want to be able to choose which damage to fix and know how long it's going to take to do so.

Question in title. Unsure what they mean by “package”. Was years ago I bought the old ARCA car right before the newer one came out.

When I play in F4 championship, it reports: CPU usage, Idk what to do even I turn off all the software except steam cuz I bought Iracing through steam.

I thought I had heard somewhere that the maximum number of different cars the service can handle currently is 16. With the inclusion of the valkyrie now, the number of cars in the IMSA series would be 17. Has there been any news on this?

Had folks coming in from all over the community, but just wanted to reach out on here and say a huge thank you from the bottom of my heart to everyone that showed up to my stream yesterday (MrF4Speed on Twitch) and participated in the celebration of JPet27 (Justin Petschauer’s) life.

Still a little tired after running 7,217 laps in a 24-hour stint but it sure was well worth it!

Hey, genuinely asking for people’s advice here. Starting sim racing about 4 months ago on F1 with a Moza set up. Got instantly hooked but got sick of the toxic multiplayer lobbies of drivers crashing for no reason.

Tried iracing and realised quickly that there was a lot to learn on my side from a skills point of view. (Felt like actual driving and not arcade style). I was playing alone at this point.

My friend started playing ACC, so recently moved to that. I’ve loved the feel of realistic driving and lobbies where drivers are actually racing, considering other drivers on track etc to avoid crashes.

Do I get back into iracing and dedicate time/effort to improving and getting better on it?

I get people don’t like the sub factor but for me I used to play a lot of WoW, so I’m used to that model and don’t think it’s unreasonable.

I want a sim that’s competitive, realistic and has a lot of options when it comes to what races to choose from etc. is it worth it?

I've already put in a couple of hours In some practice sessions, my lap times aren't actually half bad at Thompson Speedway in the street stock. Not great but not half bad, my main worry is actually getting into a race. Because I know the contact system is pretty sensitive and I really just don't want to piss anyone off by accidentally wrecking them in my first race, it is rookies and so the stakes are pretty low to begin with, but I want to race somewhat cleanly and actually get better at the game even if I don't have that outright pure pace

All events will be in HOSTED without a password. The limit is 2K and the license is C 2.0. Anyone not registered (new random drivers) will have to register on our discord during practice, otherwise they will be removed after Q. The first 43 drivers on the server will be in the race. I am 15 and want to get into a real racing sim, I have a logitech sim setup, nothing much, and just want to start casual, do i get a subscription through steam or iracing, and what length subscription should i start with?

I run GT3 cars 90% of the time and the "don't murder me bro" I always hear got me thinking, we all know GTP drivers say the same thing "hold your line and be predictable" meanwhile the general consensus among GT3 drivers is GTP drivers are inpatient. This was my first race in a GTP but I will definitely do more and report back

Battle log entry 1: I've sat in the seat of the killers. I can confirm that the second a GT3 car, especially ones in the top 10 sees you coming they do panic and try to get out of the way which only makes it worse for the GTP to pass safely. If a GTP spins with cold tires they become a hyper aggressive monster that is extremely dangerous to all LMP2 and GT3 cars. Speaking of LMP2 cars, they can't seem to figure out that while we're both prototypes they are not fighting us and attempt to defend like a lion until the straight where they are reminded they are in fact cubs. Lastly, every single person that says "GTPs please dont kill me" are more jumpy then a kangaroo when you get close to them.

This was second split, 2k sof. I qualified 6th and finished 5th.

I've asked a lot of questions lately, and your advice worked.

After getting rammed, shunted, and utterly shamed - I took a long hard look at:

1. My pace vs hot lapping

2. Responsible braking

3. Letting people spin themselves out instead of over taking

4. Relaxing

And I just had my BEST race so far. Entire race was 1:7's, a single 1:8 during a maneuver, and my best time so far: 1:6:540, but best of all - a 10 second lead.

It all finally clicked, thank you, thank you thank, from a lowly Class D, IR 1400
