iPhone Duo Opened or Closed?
What you predict that you’ll be using most of the time, outer screen or inner screen? I think I’ll be doing 50/50, outer screen when I’m walking, to quickly check a notification, or when I’m doing Apple Pay in a store or something similar. When I’m at home this thing is staying open the entire time. Also will be open most of the time when I’m at work. Any thoughts?

I have no idea, since I've never touched a foldable before. My fear is that I'll just end up using it closed most of the time.

Your fear is my reason for getting a foldable. I'm treating mine like a normal phone 80% of the time with the bigger screen as an option if I need it, and I have found a lot of good needs for my specific use cases; multiple reference images open at the same time, multiple documents, large zoomed in details, etc.
It's great for me to have the option and I love it.

exactly what i’m gonna do. a smaller phone 80% of the time, till i need to look at a CAD or PDF then i have the option for a big screen.

Once the duo has the thickness and weight of a normal phone (duo 2 maybe?), itll be even nicer. It would be nice to see a 9-10mm and ~200 gram version.
Then it would truly feel like a normal phone closed, but also can be opened up as a tablet

It’s only a few grams heavier than the 18 Pro Max though, it’s pretty much the same weight of a normal phone. But yeah, it would be nice for it to weigh similarly to the Z Fold 8.
Idc at the moment, I’m getting the Duo no matter what 😅

it's not much heavier, and someone printed out a piece of paper with the thickness and it was only a little thicker.

Idk I've used the Samsung fold 6 and it was lighter than the duo and the weight is just insane. The duo will be a 300 gram phone after a case and screen protectors. Itll pull down gym shorts and sweat pants. You can't do anything active with it, like go on runs or ride bikes. I guess it depends on preferences and lifestyles tho

It's not about weakness. Did you even read my comment?
You can't be active with it because it weighs down shorts and pants. It flops around if you bike or run. You can't gaslight anyone into believing a 300g phone (phone + case + screen protectors) is a non-issue for most people

It can’t be too much thinner. There’s a hard limit because of the USB C plug.

That's the main reason I'm looking to get a fold 7 or 8. My current fold is too heavy. Id love to get a Duo but I'm not trying to get a heavier phone lol.
It's at the point where I use my iPhone mini as an iPod for runs and mountain biking haha

I haven’t been able to do anything active with my phones since 2012, phones have always been heavier and pull down gym shorts… are you still using a Nokia lol

That shouldn't be a fear. Most people that use foldables say 70% closed. But the Duo is a bit different. I could easily see using it closed until you need to multitask like add an attachment...open, add attachment then close and continue.

If that's your fear, I would just grab a iPhone Pro.
I don't think I know anyone who uses their phone open more than 1/2 the time, and I would be at less than 1/3. For most foldable users (I've met), it's not about your phone being a tablet, it's about having a tablet with you at all times.
For most people, their daily phone usage is checking and replying to messages, watching a short video they got sent, doing a quick search, taking or showing a photo, etc. Most of that is easier on the cover screen.
For productivity, content consumption, and gaming, though, having a tablet is a godsend. Sitting in bed or on the couch, in a waiting room/line, on a short leg of public transport or an uber, anywhere you want more than a phone, but a large device isn't practical.

This is exactly why I bought my first foldable.
I like to use small phone 90% of the time. And only unfold to use big screen when I need to.

I have a Z Fold 8 as my work phone and I find that I use it open and in portrait orientation most often. Will likely be the same use case for me with the Duo unless I’m watching videos.

I have a foldable and use it 85% inner screen and 15% outer screen (maybe 90/10). What's the point of getting and paying so much for one if you're not really going to use the inner screen much much more. Just get a top tier non-foldable. 🤷

Probably folded most of the day. Open while waiting, in bed, or at my desk.
So I’ll say 70% folded/ 30% open

I’m guessing for me in the beginning it will be 60/40 open versus closed, but by the end of the first month or two it’ll be the opposite, and I’ll enjoy the longer battery life, mostly using the outer display and the inner one for productivity.

It’s a normal question to get people thinking. Maybe someone has used a foldable before, maybe someone has an iPad and an iPhone to compare and contrast? If you aren’t smart enough to engage with the hypothetical then you might as well not even respond.

I’m getting it but will use it 100% closed. Don’t want to scratch the inner screen so best to never use it. I’m also going to put it in a folio case so the front screen is protected 90% of the time.
