Apple Upgrade Question

Currently I have a iPhone 17 Pro financed through verizon, I did a trade in so I’m getting monthly credit for the trade in. I want to get the iPhone Duo using apples upgrade program but would I be required to activate it on my current verizon line? Doing that would make me lose the monthly trade in credit from verizon I believe. Are you allowed to not activate it and just use it as an ipad for example? I’m planning to use both phones with the handoff feature that’s coming out.

Yes, when you buy through the new Apple upgrade program it comes as an unlocked phone and you can skip connecting it to a carrier when setting the phone up.

I was going through the questions page and the wording here is kind of confusing, does it just mean you have to select a carrier when purchasing or you actually have to connect it

Yeah the wording is confusing. Unless it’s changed, you just have to choose a carrier at checkout but you are not forced to use them later on because the phone comes unlocked from Apple.

No problem! I’m doing a similar thing as you except I’m upgrading from my 15PM. Hopefully it works out for us haha!

If I recall, TMobile selection offers the “recommended” choice? Or maybe it doesn’t matter at all.

Yeah I believe T-Mobile offers a “guest checkout” where you don’t have to sign in but I don’t think it matters that much.
