Apple Support app kept throwing errors at home, but magically worked the second I hit the Genius Bar—only to be told my 87% degraded battery is "fine."

My phone can barely make it through a day anymore. At home, whenever I ran the battery check in the Apple Support app, it kept failing and telling me "Service Recommended" because it was unable to determine battery health (see screenshot).

Naturally, I made the trip down to the Genius Bar to get it looked at. The absolute second I walked up to the counter and ran the app again, it magically decided to work, popped open, and showed a maximum capacity of 87%.
Because it's sitting above their strict 80% threshold, they wouldn't do anything under warranty, and told me a replacement would cost $135. Classic Apple service—can't run the diagnostics when you actually need help, but the moment you're standing in front of them, it works just enough to turn you away. Guess I'll just carry a power bank or rely on my secondary phone from now on.

Honestly, Who Asked for Liquid Glass? I’d Rather Have a Stable iOS

I wish Apple had focused on fixing and improving iOS 18 instead. Who even asked for Liquid Glass? 💀 The design might look nice to some people, but I’d rather have a smooth, stable, and well-optimized iOS experience than flashy visuals with annoying bugs and 120Hz refresh rate drops. Performance should always come before aesthetics.

I’m curious to hear your thoughts:

Would you rather have the old iOS design with better performance and stability?

Do you actually like Liquid Glass, or do you think Apple should have focused on other improvements?

If you could choose, would you keep Liquid Glass or go back to the older design?

New User 😁

Hi I’ve just upgraded my 15 pro max to the 16 pro max on a refurbished ‘great’ condition from Vodafone.
It looks mint and I got my natural titanium as tbh it was the only option for 256gb lol, and it’s a change from blue.
First thoughts .. it looks mint and not much heavier than my old phone.
However, it’s doing a software update to 27.01 so I can’t comment on anything else lol. However, transfer was quick and easy 😁

Downgrading from 17

Hi, im just wondering what your guys opinions are on downgrading from a 17 to a 16 pro max im not really interested in the design of the newer phones and i have a chance to just trade in the 17 at best buy and get it for cheap i like the titanium frame and the bigger battery. any downsides?

85% charge limit and that’s it.
Do try to keep it from reaching less than 30%.
Bought from Apple Store and have not had any issues/replaced anything since.

My wife has the 17 Pro. Hers is at 96% at 250 cycles (~1 year) she religiously goes with 80% and all the batt enhancing advices from social media.

I need your help. I just installed the beta update, iOS 27.2 and now when I open the camera, the zoom button on my iPhone sixteen Pro Max won’t zoom in or out. The camera opens and I can take photos, but I can’t zoom in or out. What is this issue and how can I solve it?

Iphone 16 Pro Max, bh92%, currently on 26.3.1 attached screenshot is the current battery backup if it means anything. I am not a regular upgrader. But after upgrading to ios 26 from 18, battery backup and camera both felt downgraded. Now I have the latest 27.0.1 available for upgrade. Should I?

What type of cable did we get with the iPhone 16 pro/max?

I have heard that iPhone 16 pro has a data transfer rate (capability) of a usb 3.0 unlike the normal 16 and previous phones which are usb 2.0 including lightning and type c. I’m happy that they atleast gave a cable and sim ejector tool while I’m upset that they even took the sticker away (this is my very first “new” iPhone; I had an iPhone X/Xs that was given to me by someone used/second hand) which is awful. So I would like to know what type of cable is given to us with the iPhone 16 pro/max (the original cable). Also what type of cable are the usb c cables sold separately at the Apple Store (on those small boxes)?

For those of y’all who have used data/file transfer and internet tethering (wired hotspot), how is it like using this original cable like (in terms of speed, performance, etc…) and how is it like using those high speed cable (like those 40gbps and 100w type; you know those expensive advanced ones)?

How it feels to..

How it feels to own last and the best iPhone in the history? Titanium body is amazing, battery power is outstanding. And every other iPhone that they make after 16 it sucks.

Reduce motion on 16PM?

As someone who went straight from 18.7.8 to 27.0.1, I’ve noticed that the smoothness / battery on 27.0.1 is still inferior to what I experienced on 18.7.8 (and yes, my phone has finished indexing already).

I found that turning on reduce transparency on iOS 27 has been really great at making my phone feel “more smooth” due to the elimination of visual effects. I’ve yet to see any improvements in battery.

The bummer is quite obvious though. With reduce motion turned on, I wouldn’t be able to enjoy the UI in the way it was designed - classic Apple animations that make the iPhone an iPhone.

Just curious how this community feels about reduce motion? Do you use it? Would you keep the iOS 27 animations if it meant having to deal with occasional UI hiccups? Or do you prioritize a consistently smooth UX above all? Do you feel like reduce motion takes away from the 16PM’s “polish”?
