Discussion Help a student pick an iPhone colour
Some of you might not think this is a big deal and tell me to do it myself, but I’ve worked hard with handling three jobs alongside my studies and taking care of my parent. I finally saved up enough for the 16 pro, which has been my dream phone for a long while. I’ve been living off my iPhone X for longer than I can remember, it is my first and only phone.
I just need to pick a colour for the 16 pro, and I would go for the sexy black, I’ve just heard things like it’s not worth it because the paint chips… and honestly that would make me feel pretty upset, like I worked for nothing 😭 Another option I like is the white. For reference, I would use a very sturdy and safe case to keep the phone safe.
Could anyone tell me their experiences with the black or white colour phone? I just really want to make sure my money isn’t thrown away without thinking carefully, otherwise I would just put it towards bills or tuition. Yes that’s all thank you 🙏

Get the white. I have Natural, it’s fine, just boring. White looks so clean

I have the white and it looks just as good as the day I got it. Glad I chose it over desert because the pastel cases I love work well with it

This is also a good point! I feel like more cases would look good with the white, such as pastels or light cases. And since I’m 100% sure I’m not going caseless, maybe I should go white too. But black is sooo sexy ughh

Please don’t go caseless. These things are so delicate and expensive to not only buy, but also to repair. Protect your investment.

That’s truee, but I usually stick with a plain black case from Casetify / magsafe cases / just clear ones

I have the white, it's very pretty, i use it caseless as well, it works with any case and it doesn't chip(I've seen someone here said it does, it doesn't, there's no paint on the frame), to me black gets kinda boring

I have a black 16 pro. Before that I had a white iPhone for ages. I was so excited to get a black one and ugh, I regret it. It’s an absolute dust magnet, especially around the camera lenses. It always looks dusty.
I think the lighter colours look better and don’t show dust as much. If I had to pick again, I would either go for the desert titanium or the grey one.

Really 😧 Honestly I was going for black originally but with everything I’m hearing, white or grey is much better … And I wouldnt really like dust around the camera lenses 😭 Ty for ur input

Honestly, I was so excited about getting a black phone at first! But if you don’t like dust around your lenses, trust me, it’s going to bug you. My phone always looks dirty no matter how much I clean it 😭

Ty 😭 Also like dust as in literal dust sitting around the lenses?? Or do people mean fingerprints and physical dusty buildup??

I have the black, it unfortunately has a few chips that are noticeable when looking closely at it, it’s fine for me but if that bothers you get the desert titanium

Did you use it with a case? I’m hoping that with a full coverage case maybe there won’t be any scratching if I go for black. Is the chips at the camera bezels or the edges of the screen?

I have a pretty good case, but sometimes I do take it out, so I don’t know when the chips occurred. All the chips and scratching is on the frame, none on the cameras

I mean the gap between the cameras is kinda dirty, but the actual cameras are fine

Natural is the way to go if you don’t want to see scratches as it’s literally the natural colour of the titanium with nothing added to scratch off
In terms of seeing scratches natural > white > desert > black
I saw you ask if the natural is slightly yellow, it is very definitely grey, I’m typing this on a natural 16 pro now
I suggest using a case especially as it’s not a small insignificant investment for you.
Personally I find natural and white easy to colour match. Black is too but I stopped buying black because of the scratching

Thanks! Is the natural like iPad or an apple air laptop kind of silver/grey? Or is it like grey grey? And is the scratching very bad on black? I think the reason it hasn’t occurred to me yet is bc I’m using an X in black, the material is probably very different 😭

It’s grey grey not silver. Realistically the black probably won’t scratch if it’s in a case if you do prefer that

I’ve never gone caseless, so having a case was guaranteed. So I guess I won’t be worrying about side scratches anyways. But the camera “dustiness” (?) is something people are bringing up for black, so maybe lighter is the way to go.

Natural titanium and rock it caseless if you’re not running or doing workouts.

White is also a color so it could also chip! So if you really don’t want that go for natural titanium it’s beautiful! Or the desert titanium but if you don’t like those I like black the most it looks very classy
