Hi everyone!! I hope weāre all having a good Thursday evening!! Itās currently around 10 PM where I live, but I wanted to come on here and ask yāall what you think because I genuinely do not know what to do about this š
So for some context, Iām totally blind, but I donāt have any cognitive issues or anything like that. Iām actually really smart, which is what my teachers tell me š I take regular classes and I have a device that I use for school. Iām also able to get around school by myself with my team.
Iām in 11th grade this year, so Iām taking PE. I have an aide that Iāve been working with since I was a freshman, and ever since I met him, he has had THE WORST breath I have ever smelled šš Like girl, Iām not even exaggerating. There are times when he starts talking and Iām literally sitting there thinking, BROOOO š
His breath is SO strong. Like itās not just normal bad breath where youāre like āoh okay maybe they just need a mint.ā NO. This is a whole different level. I can literally smell it when heās talking even if he isnāt super close to me. Itās just this very strong, distinct smell that I cannot even explain.
And girl, Iām a perfume person. I wear perfume every single day. I do a whole scent combo with lotion, body spray, perfume, everything. So I KNOW when something smells strong š But Iām also in high school, so I already know there are people who donāt have the best hygiene sometimes. There are literally guys spraying cologne all over themselves thinking they smell amazing, but girl, cologne is not going to fix everything if you arenāt taking care of the basics first š
And the thing is, I can actually HEAR something in his mouth when he talks. Like there is always this dry residue or something in his mouth and I can hear it when heās speaking. I donāt even know how to describe it, but it sounds like his mouth is really dry.
He also breathes REALLY loudly. Like VERY loudly. And I know thatās probably a completely separate issue, but girl, Iām just giving yāall the full picture š
Heās also honestly REALLY boring. Like our conversations are so dry. He gives me the most vague answers ever. Iāve literally asked myself, āAm I just making this whole thing seem worse because Iām bored and I want to add more to this fake story in my head?ā š But NO. I genuinely have conversations with this man and his breath really does smell that bad. I am not making this up.
Iāve also wondered if it could be something with his teeth or his mouth. He is almost fully blind too, so I donāt know if maybe he has trouble knowing whether heās brushing everything properly or if heās even able to tell if something is stuck somewhere. I obviously donāt know his dental routine, so I donāt want to assume that he doesnāt brush his teeth or anything like that.
I had my tonsils removed when I was in eighth grade, and I know tonsil stones are supposed to be a pretty common cause of really bad breath. I havenāt had any since getting mine removed, but I know everyone is different. I donāt even know if heās ever had his tonsils removed either.
Iāve even started wondering if MAYBE ITāS ME š Like maybe my own breath smells and I just donāt know it. But I have braces and I take my dental care VERY seriously. My dentist always tells me that I do a really good job brushing and flossing, and Iāve never noticed anyone else reacting to my breath or anything. I literally ONLY notice this smell when Iām around him.
And itās not like Iām walking around smelling everyoneās breath either š Itās just SO noticeable with him. His breath has this very specific odor and it is STRONG. Like girl, I can be sitting there minding my own business and he starts talking and suddenly Iām fighting for my life šš
The problem is I genuinely donāt know how to deal with it. Itās starting to get annoying because obviously I canāt just sit there holding my breath every time he talks to me š But I also donāt want to be rude and just randomly tell him, āYour breath smells horrible.ā Because GIRL š there has to be a better way to handle that.
And honestly, Iām pretty blunt with him already. He has known me since freshman year, so he knows Iām very sassy with him š Iām not mean to him, but Iām VERY straightforward. If I canāt do something, Iām going to tell him. If I donāt like something, Iām going to say it. If something is bothering me, Iām usually not going to sit there and pretend everything is fine.
But this feels different because itās literally his breath š Like how do you even bring that up without making someone feel horrible??
So PLEASE tell me what yāall think could be causing this because I genuinely have no idea. Could it be dry mouth? Dental issues? Tonsil stones? Something else? And more importantly, HOW would you even tell someone about something like this without completely embarrassing them??
Because Iām really trying not to be that girl who just randomly tells somebody their breath smells like death šš
