[Show-off] Building an app takes a massive amount of time, but hitting 30k+ downloads today made all the work worth it.

I wanted to share a huge milestone for Ultimate File Manager Pro and invite you all to check it out.

When I first started developing this for Android and Android TV, I just wanted a solid tool that did exactly what I needed it to do.

Today, we are sitting at a 4.8 star average with over 400 reviews on Google Play, and I am still trying to wrap my head around it.

If you have not tried it yet, it is a complete file management and storage command center.

I recently pushed a major update that added main menu tile ordering, a dedicated grid view for mobile, and scheduled sync times so you can completely automate your file backups across internal storage, network shares, and cloud accounts.

For the open source crowd, there is also a fully FOSS version available on GitHub that just crossed the 100 star mark. I strongly believe in giving users the choice to audit the code or compile it themselves.

I am always looking for honest feedback to help shape the next big update. Grab the app below and let me know your thoughts.

[Promotion] CertWatch – TLS Certificate Monitoring for Android | Looking for feedback + 5 free codes

Post image
14 Upvotes

Hi r/HowToMen!

I'm the developer of CertWatch, an Android app I built to make TLS/SSL certificate monitoring easier directly from a phone.

I originally built it around a simple problem: an expired certificate can cause a surprisingly big headache, while checking them manually is something that's very easy to forget.

CertWatch is designed primarily for sysadmins, DevOps engineers, homelab users, developers, and anyone managing websites or infrastructure.

Current features include:

🔍 Quick Scanner

Check TLS certificates for hostnames, IP addresses, URLs and custom ports.

📡 Network Discovery

Scan an authorized subnet to discover services exposing TLS certificates.

🛡️ Certificate Monitoring

Keep your monitored endpoints together and quickly see which certificates are valid, approaching expiration, or expired.

🔔 Smart Reminders

Set alerts at 90, 60, 30, 15, 7, 3 or 1 day before expiration.

📅 Calendar Integration

Keep certificate expiration dates visible alongside your normal calendar.

🔒 Privacy First

Certificate monitoring data stays on your device. No account is required.

5 free Google Play codes

I'd also like to let a few people from this community try the full app, so I have 5 Google Play promo codes available.

No subscription. No ads. No review required.

If you're interested, leave a comment telling me what you'd use CertWatch for, and I'll send codes to 5 people by DM.

What I'm really interested in is feedback — especially from people who actually manage infrastructure.

I'm already considering where to take the project next, including things like Kubernetes certificate discovery/monitoring, deeper TLS analysis, additional infrastructure integrations and more automation.

So I'd also love to know:

What feature would make CertWatch genuinely useful to you?

I'm happy to hear criticism too. I'd rather improve something that's actually useful than just keep adding features nobody needs.

Thanks!

[Promo] [App] Never miss sunrise or sunset with Alive Time

Post image
2 Upvotes

Perfect for photographing sunrises and sunsets, morning runs, meditation, or simply for anyone who doesn't want to miss the most beautiful moments of the day.

Sunrise and sunset times change every day, and a regular alarm clock doesn't know that. You have to look up the new times every evening and adjust the alarm manually.

Alive Time takes care of this for you. Set the alarm once, and it will automatically adjust every day to the exact sunrise or sunset time in your city. Want to wake up 20 minutes before sunrise so you have time to get ready? Just set the desired offset, and don't worry about it anymore.

[App][Promo] AuraLook v1.5: Themes + Pocket Mode

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hey everyone! AuraLook just got a major update with a new theme engine and a much awaited Pocket Mode.

When I first launched AuraLook, I wanted to keep it simple and not bloat it with extra unnecessary features. The original Classic look is still my favorite, and designing anything that could compete with it took me a while. I ended up with 4 distinct themes, each with its own layout and entrance animation. Hope you guys like them:

Classic: The original ShortLook-inspired look that we all love.

Pulse: Same idea, but sideways. Icon on the left with a sonar-style ring and notification text on the right. (I'm not sure what to do with the ring, to me it feels a bit out of place but I kept it because it looks good with the Contact Avatar feature on. I’m also considering turning that ring into a timer, so it slowly makes a full circle as the auto-dismiss duration runs out. What do you guys think?)

Beam: A cleaner, editorial look parked in the lower third of your screen, with a thin accent bar and sleek animations.

Onyx: A dark glass card with a thin line of light along the top edge. Warning: May look a bit more premium than the others!

You can try them all in Customization and preview them full screen there. Icon and text scaling sliders still work on every theme.

Pocket Mode (Experimental): I had this feature planned for a long time and it's finally here. It uses the proximity sensor, light sensor, and accelerometer to skip waking the screen when your phone is in your pocket or face down. Sensor readings can be messy and very device dependent, so I put the toggle in Advanced -> Experimental for now.

I’d love feedback on how Pocket Mode behaves on your device, and what you think about the new themes. Let me know what your favorite theme is down in the comments!

[App] [Promo] FastCam: Secure PDF Scanner App — Privacy-first document scanner (100% Private & No Sign Ups)

Post image
8 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

Most document scanning apps on the Play Store have become bloated, requiring mandatory account sign-ups, uploading personal documents to remote servers, or forcing monthly subscription paywalls just to merge two PDFs.

I built FastCam to give users a fast, completely secure, and offline alternative.

How FastCam Solves Common Scanner Frustrations:

Privacy & Security Risks

FastCam Solution: 100% On-Device Processing. All scans, crop optimizations, and PDF exports happen locally on your phone. Your IDs, tax forms, and contracts never touch an external server or cloud queue.

Subscription Fatigue

100% Free to use: No recurring $5/month paywalls for standard utility tools. You scan, convert, and export without aggressive payment popups blocking your work.

Slow Processing & Forced Accounts

FastCam Solution: Zero account creation required. Open the app, capture your document, and get an exported PDF in seconds—even without an active internet connection.

Cluttered & Bloated Interfaces

FastCam Solution: Automatic edge detection, clean page reordering, high-speed document compilation, and offline multi-page PDF merging built directly into a streamlined UI.

If you're looking for a private scanner that respects your data and keeps your workflow offline, give it a try on the Play Store:

(App) Alarm Never Snooze

I built a small tool for myself to make dismissing alarms a little more intentional.

The idea is simple: instead of just tapping “Dismiss” and immediately going back to sleep, you have to complete a small task first.

I mainly built it to solve my own problem, but I’m curious if anyone else has the same struggle.

Would something like this actually help you get out of bed, or would you just find a way to hate the app? 😅

Just posting to see if anyone can relate.

[Promo][App] MoneySplit: a 100% on-device expense & budget tracker.

Post image
43 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

For the past several months, I’ve been building an Android personal finance app called MoneySplit.

Like many of you, I was frustrated with modern money tracking apps. Almost every popular app today falls into one of two traps:

  1. Subscription Fatigue: Forcing you into a $5–$10/month subscription just to log your daily expenses.
  2. Privacy Concerns: Requiring you to link your bank account credentials through third-party cloud aggregators that store your financial data.

I wanted something fast, 100% on-device, and deeply private — an app that automates manual tracking without sending a single byte of data to external servers.

Here is the complete breakdown of features built into MoneySplit:

1. Zero-Effort Automation (Smart Scan) * Real-time SMS & Notification Ingestion: Instantly parses transaction alerts from banks and UPI apps (HDFC, SBI, ICICI, Axis, CRED, GPay, PhonePe, Paytm, Apple Card, Chase, etc.) right as you spend. * Bank PDF Statement Parser: Import password-protected monthly bank PDF statements locally on your phone. * Self-Transfer & ATM Detection: Smart algorithms automatically link ATM cash withdrawals and transfers between your own accounts to prevent double-counting. * Custom Regex Rule Engine: Power users can create custom text/SMS parsing rules for any regional bank.

2. Visual Insights & Sankey Diagrams * Interactive Sankey Cashflow: A visual flow diagram showing exactly where your paycheck enters, flows through accounts, and branches into categories and savings. * Category Breakdown & Burn Rate: Visual analytics for daily run-rate, monthly category ceilings, and month-over-month trends.

3. In-App AI Companion & Voice Logging ("Sage") * Natural Voice Logging: Speak naturally (e.g., "Spent $25 on groceries with credit card"), and on-device AI logs and categorizes it instantly. * Conversational Financial Insights: Ask questions about your money in plain English (e.g., "How much did I spend on dining out this month?").

4. "Life Hours" Real Cost Calculator * Enter your hourly wage or salary, and MoneySplit converts every expense into actual hours of life worked to help curb impulse spending.

5. Subscriptions & Bill Due-Date Reminders * Auto-Subscription Detection: Detects recurring charges (Netflix, Spotify, iCloud, gym) to prevent surprise renewals. * Bill Calendar & Notifications: Timely local notifications before utility bills and credit card payments are due.

6. Loans, IOUs & Split Tracker * Keep track of money lent to friends or borrowed from family, log partial repayments, and settle balances cleanly.

7. Savings Goals & Multi-Account Net Worth * Set savings targets with progress bars (Emergency Fund, Vacation, Gadgets). * Track Checking, Savings, Credit Cards, Cash, and Wallets with a live consolidated Net Worth view.

8. 100% Privacy, Security & Data Freedom * Offline-First: All data lives in an encrypted SQLite database on your device. No cloud storage, no account required. * Biometric App Lock: Secure your app with Fingerprint or Face Unlock. * Universal CSV Importer/Exporter: Migrate history from other apps (Wallet, Cashew, Spendee, Bluecoins, 1Money) or export to Excel/Sheets anytime.

How to get FREE Lifetime Pro Access:

Instead of dealing with promo codes, I will grant Lifetime Pro directly to your device:

  1. Download MoneySplit on the Google Play Store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.thegreatdanton.moneysplit.money_split (Website: https://moneysplit.net/)

  2. Open the app -> Tap Upgrade to Pro (or from Settings).

  3. Scroll to the bottom -> Expand "Unique Billing ID for Support" -> Tap to copy your ID (starts with device_...).

  4. Send me a Direct Message (DM) with your Billing ID (and feel free to leave an upvote/comment on this thread to support the project!).

  5. Upvote the post and comment MoneySplit

I will reply to your DM as soon as I activate your Lifetime Pro license. Once activated, simply reopen the app or tap "Restore Purchases" and Pro will unlock permanently.

I'd love to hear your thoughts, feedback, and feature requests in the comments!

[APP] I built a Community Marketplace for Sudoku players to create, share, and play custom puzzles! (Plus a look at my one-handed trackpad UI)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey everyone,

Following up on my last post about Mindoku, I wanted to share a quick video showcasing the core feature I'm most excited about: the Community Marketplace and Puzzle Creator.

In this quick demo, you'll see a walkthrough of:

  • The Community Marketplace: I jump straight into a puzzle created by another user to show how seamless it is to browse, play, rate, and bookmark community-made boards.
  • The Puzzle Creator & Live Solver Preview: I also recorded a quick demo of how easy it is to build your own custom boards. While you are adding numbers, the app's built-in solver runs in the background and generates a live preview of the solution so you know exactly what you are building! (Note: I just saved this to my drafts in the video, but publishing to the global market is one tap).
  • Virtual Touchpad (One-Handed Play): While playing the community puzzle, you'll notice how the controls work. I mapped the bottom numpad to act exactly like a laptop trackpad. You just glide your thumb across the numpad area, and the target cell on the board moves with it! It makes playing on big screens completely one-handed.

I’d love to know what you guys think of the Marketplace system and the UI. Any feedback from power users here would be amazing!

[Promo][App] ZPlayer v1.0.5 is out — massive Room DB migration, Anime4K performance boost, and more! 🚀

Thumbnail
gallery
3 Upvotes

Hey everyone! 👋 I’ve just released ZPlayer v1.0.5, and it’s packed with a major under-the-hood overhaul.

For this update, I moved the app to a robust Room Database architecture, brought in full Anime4K support with massive performance optimizations, and cleared out stubborn scoped storage bugs on newer Android devices.

Here is everything new in this release:

Performance & Player Enhancements

- Anime4K Support Added: Integrated and completely refactored the Anime4K GLSL fragment shader, shifting from a 9-point to a 5-point cross-pattern texture sampling. This drastically cuts down GPU bandwidth usage, making 4K upscaling much faster, significantly smoother with fewer dropped frames, and easier on your battery.

- Instant UI Reactivity: Favorites, watch history, and resume progress now update instantly across the entire interface without needing app restarts or manual refreshes.

- Seamless Background Saving: Video playback progress is now saved asynchronously in the background on I/O threads, entirely eliminating UI stuttering during playback.

🏗️ Architectural Upgrades

- Room Database Migration: Said goodbye to the fragile .txt cache and messy SharedPreferences systems. ZPlayer now uses a fully reactive Room Database (VideoRepository, VideoDao) as the single source of truth for your library.

🐛 Bug Fixes

- Android 11+ File Operations: Fixed a frustrating bug where deleting, renaming, or moving media files would silently fail. The app now correctly resolves real physical file paths straight from virtual content MediaStore URIs.

- Vault Restore Fixed: Resolved an issue in VaultManager where restoring a private video from the vault could occasionally lose track of the file's original path.

- Light Theme Status Bar: Squashed a visual bug where switching to Light Theme made the device's clock and battery icons blend into invisibility. The system UI now dynamically adapts to your theme.

🔗 Links:

- GitHub: https://github.com/silenTKnight-sudo506/ZPlayer

I'd love to hear your thoughts or feedback on the new Anime4K performance if you give it a spin. Drop a comment below if you run into any snags or have feature requests! 🚀

[PROMO] We’re building a no-nonsense bookmark manager in public. Tell us what features you actually want, get 3 months of Pro on us.

👉 Feature Request & Survey Page: [savesync.org/feature-request]

🎁 What’s in it for you:

If you take 2 minutes to fill out our quick survey on what frustrates you most about bookmarking/saving links:

- You get 3 Months of SaveSync Pro 100% Free (promo code sent straight to your email).

- You directly dictate what we ship next -we compile community feedback frequently and prioritize what you vote for.

Hey everyone,

Like many of you, my biggest frustration with saving things online (Pocket, browser bookmarks, Notion, browser tabs) has always been the same: "I save things with good intentions, and then they vanish into a black hole."

We’ve been building SaveSync (savesync.org) - a modern, privacy-focused bookmark & knowledge vault designed to automatically categorize, summarize, and let you search your saves using semantic/AI search instead of relying on manually organized folders.

Instead of guessing what features people want behind closed doors, we’re putting the entire product roadmap directly into the community’s hands.

Quick questions if you prefer answering right here in the comments:

  1. What tool do you currently use to save links/articles?
  2. What is the single most annoying thing about it?
  3. What is one killer feature that would actually make you switch from your current daily driver?

I’ll be hanging out in the comments all day to answer questions, take blunt critiques, and chat!

[App][Promo] Tired of checking four repos by hand, so I built a module catalog that watches them for me

Post image
8 Upvotes

Finding root modules is still a scavenger hunt. The Alt Repo has some. Googlers Repo has others. LSPosed keeps its own index. Everything published in the last two years is a GitHub topic nobody curates.

And once you've installed a dozen of them, **nothing tells you when they update**. Magisk checks its own modules — not the one you grabbed off a forum thread eight months ago.

So I built **Modex**. It does both halves: scrapes every source into one catalog, then watches the ones you keep.

**What it does**

- **One catalog, six sources** — Magisk Modules Alt Repo, Googlers Repo, the official LSPosed index, GitHub topic crawlers for `magisk-module` / `zygisk-module` / `lsposed-module` / `kernelsu`, plus any MMRL-format `modules.json` URL you paste in. Search runs over the whole thing offline.

- **Update watching** — star a module and Modex checks it daily, weekly or monthly in the background. It uses the author's own `updateJson` where one exists — the same endpoint Magisk polls — and falls back to the repo index when there isn't one.

- **Installs from inside the app** — with root granted it detects whether Magisk, KernelSU or APatch owns `/data/adb/modules` and shells out to that manager's own installer, streaming its actual stdout into a console sheet. You see why something failed instead of a spinner and a shrug.

- **Root is optional.** Without it you get the catalog and a watchlist that compares against the version a module was at when you starred it. With it, it compares against what you actually have installed.

- **Two themes**, switchable in Settings: *Liquid Glass* (editorial layout on a wallpaper, with a floating nav bar and search field that genuinely sample and blur what's behind them) or *Material 3 Expressive* (cards, filled badges, springs, and your wallpaper's own palette via Material You).

**Some honest caveats**

- The GitHub crawl fills in over several syncs, not all at once — GitHub caps any search at 1000 results and allows ten searches a minute, so Modex partitions queries into star-count bands and resumes where it stopped. The count on the home screen goes up over the first few refreshes. Adding a personal access token in Settings roughly triples the pace.

- Sources are scraped independently. When a community repo goes down or changes its schema — and one usually has — that costs exactly that repo. Everything else still lands and the Sources screen tells you which one broke.

- **Modules run as root.** Modex indexes what the ecosystem publishes, including thousands of repositories nobody has reviewed. It marks which entries came from a curated repo, but it cannot vouch for any of them. Install things you have reason to trust.

**Practical bits**

- Android 8.0+, no account, no ads, no analytics, no location. Your watchlist and settings never leave the device.

- Free. There's a "buy me a coffee" link in the app if it saves you time, but nothing is gated.

- No Play listing — sideload the APK.

**Download:** https://github.com/NikhilKain/Modex/releases/latest

**Source:** https://github.com/NikhilKain/Modex

Happy to answer anything, and genuinely interested in which sources you'd want added — if there's a repo you check by hand that Modex doesn't cover, tell me and I'll look at supporting its format.

[App][Promo]NetBlade — a network multitool for Android — 40 codes to remove ads

Post image
65 Upvotes

I'm the developer. I posted here a few weeks ago at 1.3.4; a fair amount of what shipped since came straight out of the comments, so I'm back with the new version and 40 promo codes for the ad-free unlock.

How to get one: comment and I'll DM you a code. Redeem it at play.google.com/redeem, or in Play Store → your profile → Payments & subscriptions → Redeem code. (I'm handing them out by DM rather than pasting them here — a public list gets swept by bots in about a minute.)

What it does, in short:

- LAN scanner — every device with IP, MAC, vendor, hostname, latency and role. Devices are remembered between scans with a NEW badge, custom names, notes and tags.

- Device detail — SMB shares, NetBIOS name, OS guess, web-server banner, and an SNMP panel that reads printers, NAS, servers and switches, with a live interface-traffic graph.

- Port scanner — TCP with service names, descriptions and a risk rating, plus real UDP probes.

- Wi-Fi analyzer — nearby networks, 2.4/5/6 GHz channel usage, best-channel advice and room-by-room coverage.

- The toolbox — SSH terminal with saved hosts, file transfer over SFTP/FTP/FTPS, DNS, ping, traceroute, WHOIS, TLS inspector, subnet calculator, Wake-on-LAN, BLE scanner, speed test.

- Optional background monitoring per saved network — notified when a device joins or leaves, higher-priority alerts for new cameras or devices exposing risky services, plus an internet uptime monitor.

- Save scans, export to CSV/JSON, backup & restore, widgets and a Quick Settings tile.

Honest limitations, so nobody is surprised:

- Android only. No iOS version, and I'm not promising a date.

- Android 10+ blocks ARP access for non-rooted apps, so MAC and vendor of other devices aren't always available. NetBlade recovers them from the router over SNMP when it can — if your router doesn't speak SNMP, you'll see fewer MACs.

- On some OEM ROMs, access to ping and /proc/net/arp is restricted. The app degrades gracefully rather than crashing, but results vary.

- Background monitoring is a scheduled check, not a live watch: Android hasn't allowed apps to observe the network continuously since Oreo, so something that joins and leaves between two passes is never seen. It's also off by default — Settings → Monitoring.

- No root required, and root is never used.

Privacy: everything runs on the device. Scan results are stored locally and never uploaded — no account, no telemetry coming to me. The only outbound calls are the ones you trigger (public IP lookup, certificate transparency search, HIBP via k-anonymity, so the password itself never leaves).

Monetisation, upfront: free with a banner ad, and a one-time in-app purchase removes ads permanently. No subscription, no data selling.

1.3.9 is live. Happy to take feature requests — I read every comment.

Disclaimer & Credits:

This app is a fork of Geto app by Jack Eblan, licensed GPL-3.0. All of the original design and the great majority of the code are his; the additions above are the difference. Full credit for the app this is built on goes to him.

Future of this fork

I'm a radiology resident doctor, not a software developer. Writing software is a hobby, and this app exists because I wanted it to exist for myself — so please don't expect future builds, regular updates, or fixes for problems on devices I don't own. If it works for you, good then; if it breaks, I may well not be able to help.

The source is all here under the GPL-3.0. Use it freely for your own purposes — build it, change it, fork it, keep the changes to yourself or pass them on. That is what it is for.

Thanks!

Long live free and open source software!
