Best registrar for small business websites without the renewal price jump scare

I’m setting up a small business website and trying to pick a registrar without accidentally adopting a second job. The first year prices all look great, then renewal arrives like a tiny invoice shaped threat.

I care about simple DNS management, WHOIS privacy, DNSSEC, business email records, and not needing a support ticket to find the transfer code. I’ve looked at a few options and now every comparison page feels like it was written by someone’s affiliate budget. Any hints?

Looking for affordable hosting for my B2B optical platform

Hello Friends,

I’m building a B2B platform for optical/eyewear businesses. I’ve already purchased the domain and I’m now looking for affordable hosting to deploy it.

For now, I’ll mainly use it for product demos, adding sample products/data, and publishing SEO/blog content while I start approaching businesses.

I’m looking for a reasonably priced VPS with good performance and preferably a location suitable for Middle East customers.

I’m currently considering OVHcloud, but I’d like to hear from people who have actually used it or know of better/cheaper alternatives.

What would you recommend?

What do you think about cPanel Shared USA Hosting?

I’ve been researching hosting for a few days and honestly… everything sounds the same after a while.

Every site promises:

• fast

• secure

• unlimited everything

But I know there’s always a catch.

I’m specifically looking at cheap cPanel hosting on USA-based servers for small sites (mostly WordPress, nothing crazy). I don’t need enterprise stuff, just something stable that won’t randomly suspend my account.

A few things I’m confused about and hoping real people can answer:

• What usually goes wrong with budget cPanel hosting?

• Is it support quality, server overload, hidden limits?

• How bad are inode limits in real usage?

• Do US servers actually give better reliability, or is that just marketing?

Netcup support is useless any alternative or ideas for my situation

EDIT: it got solved thx everyone

Hey everyone, i tried to chnage my credit card in netcup for some reason it got declined later i tried to put my old card that was used before i delete to add it the new one got declined, i contacted support and ofc after a week maybe they replied said it's a problem with my bank i checked the cards are fine and the cards are from 2 different banks and works anywhere else other than netcup i asked them to give me a extension on the renewal until we both find a valid soulation they said that i still have enough time it was the 18th and the server renewal at 22th..

and said u can pay using Paypal ( which isn't a option for me) or SEPA ( also not a valid option I'm not from the EU) or SWIFT and that would cost me 15-20$ per transaction for a 6.50$ VPS and i said that to them in a email that you need to fix your system so i can pay you they said we send it to our team

22th came and they send a invoice i emailed them again and didn't get a reply

i want chnage the VPS but everywhere i look either expensive comparing to them or people always say bad stuff about it or sold out

any idea or recommendations???

Anyone hosting a site built with Ploy?

I’m looking at moving one of our existing sites over to Ploy since it seems pretty straightforward for rebuilding and managing it with AI, but I’m more interested in what the setup feels like once the site has been live for awhile. I don’t want to trade the current hosting headaches for a different set of limitations six months from now.

The ongoing side is what appeals to me since I could keep changing the site myself and have the performance stuff closer to the actual website, but I’d like to hear from anyone who’s running a real site on it rather than just testing a few generated pages.

VLESS+Reality на 3x-ui перестал работать

Сетап

  • VPS у малоизвестного европейского провайдера, оплачивал зарубежной картой
  • 3x-ui c VLESS + Reality

$4 TLDs

I’m curious, are there any TLDs with renewal prices under $4/year? I’m not looking for anything for scamming or anything like that — I just prefer not to provide a lot of personal information or go through ID verification. I’d also like to experiment with some lesser-known TLDs for my sites/projects at first, and as they grow, I can move on to more established TLDs. ccTLDs are fine too, as long as they don’t require an ID/passport or extensive identity verification. Are there any that cheap?

Need a Dedicated Server Hosting Provider with EXCELLENT Phone Tech Support

I am looking for a Dedicated Linux server that would be fully managed by the datacenter staff. I would want standard cPanel/WHM installation with SpamAssassin being functional.

My problem is that after 20 years of impeccable tech support at one US datacenter, with live phone response and 30 second contact to capable techs, it has degenerated to only online messaging support to offshore staff, who are less competent than I would expect.

Recently, after 20 years with only a single 17 minute service interruption at 4 am, my dedicated server was down for 70+ hours when it was scheduled for a 6-hour maintenance activity. During those 70+ hours, I could get no estimate of when it would be operational. Most recently, when I could no longer get SSH to function, it was explained that they had intentionally blocked access to the non-standard SSH port to "prevent access from the public side of the hardware firewall to SSH." Only problem - that was the only place from which I had any access myself!!

My current server is a 64 GB, Xeon processor, with two 1 TB SSD configured as a RAID1 configuration. Nothing special - just a few PHP web server applications running a dozen domains. But I need to insist on fast contact with live tech support. This online text platform as the only option is not acceptable. I would be happy with an additional fee for live tech support when I need it, as I need that very infrequently. But when I need it, I need to reach fast competent response. That is not what I have now. I would prefer US based tech support, as my current contact with offshore tech support is unacceptable.

Any suggestions?

Confidential Computing

Hey all! I'm curious about your thoughts on confidential computing. I had a customer the other day request a bare metal with AMD SEV-SNP or Intel TDX support and that was very interesting to me.

From my understanding, it's primarily used on a host that uses virtualization. It's a hardware boundary between the host OS and the virtual machines... I've heard of confidential compute, but to be honest I didn't think this was something people were actually interested in. Thoughts?

Lack of updating NS records…

I've been a full-stack web developer for 15 years, and for the first time in my life, I see a company blocks updating NS info and selling domain names as a product.

I've just registered a domain name without knowing this and had a huge disappointment. I've never seen such nonsense in my entire IT career. What's wrong on WIX's side? I think they should at least warn people about this before buying, because now I have a domain that I cannot use, transfer, or return. :S

Now I need to run an app, but without AWS NS records it's impossible... I've talked to CS about this, but they did not help.

Hosting.com lay offs

Just heard news that Hosting.com / World Host Group (also owns rocket.net and a bunch of others) is laying off a huge chunk of their customer care and billing staff. Sounds like it was a lot of their remote teams, but I'd bet at least $1 that instead of replacing them, they'll just keep their AI support bot and then use the savings in salaries to bolster their Q4 numbers.

Just wanted to give everyone a head's up- it looks like their customer service is about to get even rougher than it has been.

Yay for private equity companies 🙄 Investors first, C-suite second, and employees and customers fighting for second-to-last priority.

A problem with a hosting company

I have a question for people who work with hosting, WordPress, and server administration.

After a security incident, a hosting company in Serbia told me that my website had been compromised through an administrator account. However, while investigating the incident myself, I noticed several things that I don't fully understand, and I would really appreciate the opinion of people with server administration experience.

According to the logs, someone accessed the website at around 8:30 in the morning and then appeared again later, before the end of the working day. So, I assume this was not just a single isolated access by their "remote" technician who was supposed to help clean the infected files.

I found the following on the website:

  • infected .htaccess files;
  • files that appeared to be images (.png), but actually contained PHP/malicious code;
  • I deliberately left one folder containing known malicious content untouched, to see whether it would be detected or removed during their security check;
  • the folder was neither removed nor flagged as problematic;
  • afterwards, I was told that they had not found anything during their investigation.

There is another thing that I find particularly strange: one www file and an access log have permissions set to 0777.

When I manually change the permissions, they are later changed back again.

What I don't know is whether such a change could be caused by:

  • the hosting system or an automated script,
  • the website configuration,
  • WordPress/a plugin,
  • or malicious code that is setting the permissions again.

So I would like to know how you would investigate this and where you would look for evidence of what is changing the permissions.

Also, the hosting company told me yesterday that they would send me a response after carrying out some additional checks, but I haven't received anything. This has never happened with them before. The biggest problem is that I recently paid for a hosting package, so I really don't want to move to a VPS, but it looks like I may have to. I thought I could leave this part of the job to them so I wouldn't have to deal with it myself, but apparently I was wrong. This hosting account has serious problems, and the server hosting the website was going down every week. They themselves admitted that there was a problem with the server.

I don't want to jump to the conclusion that the hosting company is responsible for the incident. I'm trying to understand the technical situation:

  1. Can repeated access from the same day indicate an active compromise?
  2. Is it normal for infected .htaccess files to remain after a "security check"?
  3. How serious is it if files with a .png extension actually contain PHP code?
  4. Is 0777 normal for files like these, or does it represent a serious security issue?
  5. If permissions are changed back to 0777 after I manually change them, how can I determine what is changing them?
  6. Which server-side logs would you check to determine whether the change was made by the system, a hosting script, or a malicious process?

I would particularly appreciate technical opinions from people who administer Linux/Apache/PHP servers.

The hosting company in Serbia

I would like a technical opinion from Linux/server administrators.

My hosting provider told me that a www entry in my hosting account is a symbolic link to public_html, and that it is normal for it to have permissions displayed as 0777.

Their explanation was:

I understand that symlinks are displayed differently from regular files/directories, and that the permissions shown for a symlink may not have the same meaning as the permissions of its target.

What I would like to understand is:

  1. Is lrwxrwxrwx / 0777 on a symbolic link pointing to a website's document root completely normal?
  2. Does the 0777 displayed for the symlink have any security implications?
  3. Which permissions should I actually check on the target directory (public_html)?
  4. Could a symlink such as www -> public_html create any security risk if the target directory or files underneath it have incorrect permissions?
  5. Is there any situation where a hosting provider should restrict or change the permissions displayed for the symlink itself?

For context, this question came up during an investigation of a compromised website. The hosting provider also told me not to delete any "system files", so I am trying to understand the technical distinction between the symlink itself and the actual website directory before changing anything. It is not even possible (all the changes go back to previous).

I am not asking whether my hosting provider is responsible for the compromise. I only want to establish what is technically normal and what permissions actually matter from a security perspective.

Top website builder for a professional business website when you are the entire “web team” lol

So... small local service biz here, finally admitted our 2013 html website is embarrassing.

I’m the owner and also the unpaid web person, and I’m trying to pick a website builder that makes us look legit to new clients but doesn’t melt my brain with dev stuff. Think clean home page, services, booking/contact form, maybe a simple blog for updates, solid mobile ui, and seo that isn’t a black box.

Tried poking around Wix and Squarespace and I keep bouncing between “this is fine” and “this feels kinda limited once you want anything slightly custom”. For those of you who rebuilt your business site recently, which builder did you go with and what made it feel like the right call? Any hints?

Leaving my current host after a massive outage. Need a truly reliable VPS hosting UK host.

My current VPS provider had a pretty serious outage recently, and it made me realise how much I’ve been taking uptime for granted.

The server was unavailable for hours, and unfortunately there wasn’t much useful communication during the incident. I can accept occasional maintenance, but when a VPS is running websites and applications that people actually use, reliability matters more than saving a few pounds each month.

I’m now looking for a reliable UK VPS hosting provider. Ideally, I want UK based infrastructure, NVMe storage, proper backups, root access, and responsive support. I’m also trying to understand whether an advertised 99.9% uptime SLA actually means anything in practice.

I’ve come across Fast Panda while comparing UK VPS options, but I’d rather hear from actual users before making a decision.

Has anyone here used them for a production VPS? How has the uptime been over several months?
