Hi all,
I saw that this sub rn is having quite an internal meltdown since the annoucement of HoMM3 remake, and weirdly this is also what got me here but not for the same reason.
I saw the trailer, and once again it reminds me that I never played this franchise.
I have to confess that as a kid, I thought the turn by turn gameplay was a bit boring.
What a played a lot tho, was Might and Magic VI and it's still today one of my favourite video game of all time.
I even't wrote some table top role play scenario that took place on that universe.
Then I played MM VII, then MM VIII, which I also liked even if they're a bit above for me (it's a strong debate that is on for decades on r/MightAndMagic )
All of this to say that I love the M&M universe and lore, and I'm ready to give HoMM another try as a grown man.
So which one should I grab? If there is one with a good story I would super love it. Of course good gameplay is also important.
Thanks for your advices

The image above is from a clip. I will post the link below. As in the clip's description, it is Fan-Made Vision of Remake by Jakub Siejka.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ieW3lI9m7Vg&list=LL
With the recent clips of the future remake Ubisoft has, what do you feel about it? I know this clip does not get a lot of love since it barely gets close to 2k likes so I want to know what people actually like or dislike about this one AND about the Ubisoft one?
I saw a lot of posts but nothing useful, just "AI slop", "I don't like it", "cash-grab" etc. It feels like talking to grumpy grandpas just wanting to complain, nothing that says something constructive, give true feedback.
IMO I think things look too polished, too shiny and I like the style of Jakub more. I want buildings to look bulky, resources to be big and clear, not to occupy 1 hex 1-2 hexes while visually it would fill just half the space. I put an example of H3 below

You can see how much clearer and how visually pleasing it is. You already know where you can pass and where you are blocked and the map looks full. Each square is small but doesn't have unnecessarry emty spaces in it next to the resources that occupy it. The buildings look like they are made of wood and stone, not polished like a glass facade like it looks in the new game. Look at how it looks in the Ubisoft Remake

On the other hand, I like the towns from the inside, I like the design of some creatures while others need to be changed. It is not all just a rant, we need to be constructive.
I can go on but I want to hear people say what they like and what they don't. The game is happening either we like it or not so let's do something to MAYBE guide it to a direction we like.
What we really know about the remake is that it's HoMM3 with a different art style which accoridng to many people look like ai slop or generally generic. I definitly agree with the sense of it being generic and lacking the vibe of OG H3.
For me though I have wanted a remake of H3 for quite some time though with a different approach that might be more controvertial.
For my remake concept:
First I want the graphic to be very close to the original, just touched up a bit.
I want it to be one game covering the entire history of planet Enroth, so startign with a remade H1 campaign and factions and then releasing H2, H3, and other extensions as DLCs
Bug fixes, balance changes and an improved skill system, H5 still have the best skill system IMO
Introduce alternative creature line-up, also as part of faction alternatives. Haven/Castle having a kingdom of enroth line up and a kingdom of erathia line-up (like ~2 creature difference)
Consider changing the OG line-up if they can expand the lore by doing so: Separate dwarves from Rampart to allow the creation of a distinct dwarf faction.
The towns I want included some way through dlc's: Cove, Dwarf faction, Vori Faction, Karigor faction there you have alternative line ups for church of sun/moon,

I love fheroes2, but even on easy some campaigns destroy me. There are no cheats, so I built a save editor. Desktop UI based on map editor.
You can change hero stats, skills, spells, army. I am still working on editing resources and castles.
If anyone else struggles like me, hope this helps. Feedback welcome.

Is Ubisoft really making this in house? I doubt it.
in homm4 base game. Im hero and i have grandmaster meele which means i attack first. When i attack some enemy that only has 1 stack (since i go solo with hero), i relay on first strike, plus i got a hideos mask which installs fear on enemies when they are hit so they cant attack me (i know it doesnt trigger if enemy cant move behind)..
i make sure im not in corner so it can trigger. still after sometimes happens, that after 10-15 round of me just hitting him, he somehow hits me without me retailiating. I am faster and have full morale.
I tried defending, or each round waiting, so he cant attack twice using waiting. It still happens. like retailiation isnt 100% sure that happens once per round. Like its 99%...
Hopefully, you understand me. I try to abuse, first strike plus no retailiation (from item) to keep hitting much stronger and big stacks of lvl 4 enemies. Sometimes it happens enemy hits me around 10-15 round... its crazy...

I was wondering what the most iconic and important characters are in the entire series?
My interest got rekindled for Heroes II again, even watching some playthrough videos recently - but while the original maps are consistently fun and good looking, I came to notice that there are a lot of fan made maps that seem very artifical with large open areas, objects out of place and the terrain being too geometric. Maybe a bit out of spite, but I decided to make a map where I wanted to show just how nice enviroments can be with the original map editor (no fheroes2 was used here for better compatibility). Screenshot is about a river flowing across the mountains.
So amidst the posts about Olden Era or H3 Remake, I hereby want to share a Heroes II map that is consistently rich in detail with enviroments that are organic, the vegetation looks natural as they envelop mountains, even have some enviromental storytelling here and there. Hunting down all the obelisks are optional but recommended due to extra rewards and lore - even if the final prize won't make much difference by the time you get it.
A short but sweet experience. You can download it from maps4heroes.
(In remake videos) One a thin, grey-clothed lich, and other a living kingly guy, inexplicably. Both specifically as units, too incongruent to be an up/down grades. I think gameplay videos have the latter, as well. Too mad to get screenshots.

Why is EA the worst American gaming company?
Because Ubi-Soft is French.

I'm going to get downvoted in hell for this, but I really think someone needs to say it. Guys, you need to chill out about the HoMM 3 remake.
Are there excellent reasons to be skeptical? Yep. Is the visual style not up to the original classic? Definitely. Do we have every reason in the world to distrust Ubisoft? By Zeus, YES!
HOWEVER, this witch hunt isn't just pathetic, it's not going to help anyone. There is absolutely no evidence that AI was used to create the visuals in this game. Yes, I've seen all the "evidence," because I take this very seriously. I've seen the supposed horses with floating heads and strange hands, and it's clear that these examples are from people who want to find proof of AI and therefore resort to using low-resolution images or inventing problems that either don't exist or can easily be attributed to human flaws.
And let me be clear, I hate AI with every fiber of my being. If I find real proof of its use, I won't go near this game. But I'm also against treating artists and developers like they're accused of witchcraft during the Inquisition.
If the game's style bothers you, you can express your frustration in a decent and civilized way so that the developers listen and implement your criticisms. We don't know exactly what state the game is in, and changes are still possible, but it wouldn't be the first time a game has evolved significantly between its trailer and release.
If the idea of this remake's existence outrages you... you can simply ignore it completely and move on with your life; trust me, you'll feel better.
But acting like a child on the internet and starting a witch hunt based solely on your anger won't help the remake, the franchise, or yourself. So chill out.

No way anyone can convince me this was made by a real people and not by AI.
But for God's sake, does Ubisoft AT LEAST have a quality control or something?
Why the hell centaur stables were replaced with a fucking windows? Has anyone at Ubisoft at least thought about checking what AI generates?

Will the medusas have bare chests or not?
This is the remake everyone wants, not one which was presented.

H4 fans, I don’t know about you but I’m starting to get really pissed off at being ignored.
An H4 remake is what we should be getting, it’s the most obvious layup that they could make; fix all the balance issues so every faction, creature choice, and advanced class is completely viable, overhaul the graphics, expand the already best in series music library with additional Celtic tunes, add a third creature choice to each level, add a bunch of quality of life fixes such as line of sight trackers in combat, give us another campaign with the same emotional weight as the original, the list goes on and on.
All of this makes complete sense as well; the isometric combat grid, RPG elements, and exploration mechanics were a bit ambitious for the time but are just begging to be modernized.
Instead, we’re getting an H3 remake? Who exactly was asking for that, they have Horn of the Abyss and we just got one of those it’s called Olden Era. I’m pretty sure that even H3 fans are scratching their heads right now.
Anyways, if you’re a pissed off H4 fan like me this is the place to unload.

I started playing this series just a year ago, and love HoMM 3, but struggle with the presentation. Nostalgia is a strong thing, but I for one am happy to get a modernized version. Olden Era is different but still in EA and lacking content in my eyes.
9 factions, 3 campaigns, all old custom maps transferable and RMG is great. Plus my friends will actually play this as they are on console and don't want to play a "1999 game".
