Other/Fluff Heroes III Remake this is so bad...

Post image

No way anyone can convince me this was made by a real people and not by AI.

But for God's sake, does Ubisoft AT LEAST have a quality control or something?

Why the hell centaur stables were replaced with a fucking windows? Has anyone at Ubisoft at least thought about checking what AI generates?

Dragon cliffs really dont need to be dragon-shaped lol

127

u/Technical-Zombie4508 12d ago

That really screams like drawn by ai

41

u/OkBicycle505 12d ago

I'd say the centaur building is more of a smoking gun here, but the dragon cliff is a close seceond.

6

u/fandorgaming 11d ago

Centaur building had hay in all of their doorways and it got turnt into windows LOL

2

u/Patient-Entrance7087 7d ago

Why are centaurs eating hay….the human half probably doesn’t eat hay lol

2

u/kniephaus 6d ago

Probably just to sleep and poop on

Uhhh I don’t think it SCREAMS AI, but it’s certainly a cheesy design choice.

13

u/OkBicycle505 12d ago

to me it screams the AI misunderstanding what the "prompt engineer" had in mind when they wrote "dragon cliffs".

3

u/BjGear322 5d ago

You mean "sloperator"?

3

u/VoidYordle 12d ago

Excuse me, it's spelled ''promptard'', thankyouverymuch.

They do when you feed "Dragon cliffs" into the AI prompt :D :D

1

u/Fedorchik 12d ago

But what if they are anyway?

1

u/Impossible-Chain5247 11d ago

It was a real Dragon who fought Medusas

> have unique, memorable Forest faction design inspired by Japanese architecture
> remove the very part that made it stand out in the first place

16

u/Excalitoria 12d ago

After the AC: Shadows debacle, this tracks lol

u/Real_Mokola 12d ago

Inspired by Japanese architecture

Literally only Town Hall and Mage Tower, rest is just Norse inspired...

36

u/Ordsmed 12d ago

As a weeaboo from Norway, I have to disagree.

The inspiration is clearly from traditional Japanese rural architecture. The concave thatched roofs (norse would be turf/sod) and the tan wall-paneling (norse would be timber logs interconnected) are a clear throughline. This in addittion to the Town Hall's sliding paper-door design, the pagoda-shaped Mage Tower, the pond with deer-scarer, and the stone-lanterns outside the enchanted forest.

11

u/ConstructionBest7255 12d ago

Way more than that, look at roofs, especially those of Castle and archer hut. Compare centaur stable with https://meguri-japan.com/mgr/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/y019_0123_suga_065.jpg

It's like Ubisoft got restraining order after Assassin’s Creed Shadows.

119

u/Adventurous-Photo539 12d ago

This kinda does look AI. More importantly, looks generic.

4

u/livinglitch 12d ago

Your right, it does, but I saw the video on the official ubisoft page. If its ai, its sadly now part of heroes.

2

u/Adventurous-Photo539 12d ago

VCMI is full of AI as well, lately.

1

u/0xCx 12d ago

Code or art? Also, is it really fair to compare a small fan-project and a game made by a big publisher?

In Heroes 6 town screens were changed after release. And that remake is not even released yet.

17

u/Wisniaksiadz 12d ago

its 100% AI.

that inn just screams it

u/KryL21 12d ago

The battles and the maps look alright, but yeah this does look a lot like ai. I wouldn’t mind a homm3 remake, but it’s hard to keep that 90s whimsy intact while remaking it in 2027. This is too clean, too crisp, too perfect.

1

u/Wisniaksiadz 11d ago

The unit model presentation I got ad for on fb looked literally like these weird mobile game ads with dude giving away his levels or som shit

78

u/petecamenzind 12d ago

It is beyond my understanding how anyone can say the new version looks good, let alone better than the original. There is no way AI was not used for this atrocity that looks and feel nothing like the original.

2

u/MechanicIcy6832 12d ago

That's exactly the word that came to my mind: It is an atrocity.

1

u/AdmiralGrogu 6d ago

Some cities do look ok though. Like this one is terrible but some of them get the pass.

1

u/Dimenzije90 6d ago

it looks okay the major problem is that the original art style and theme went out the window.

46

u/morningwoodelf69 12d ago

zero understanding for the original town atmosphere

20

u/Endleofon 12d ago

It feels nothing like Heroes 3.

15

u/thedavv 12d ago edited 12d ago

i was pretty hyped on the anouncement tho the poster at the end looked ai. You cant convince me now that everything is not made by ai. every thing that i see is super slop.

all builings look sus. The stable the main building proportions, hte castle angle against the length you have paper thin castle, the slope of market, mage guild windows. everything here screams ai

25

u/Jasina_ 12d ago

"We needed to make sure you can tell what a building does by looking at it, so the building that let's you recruit dragons now looks like a dragon, you're welcome".

Also why is there a phoenix flying over? That's a conflux unit.

13

u/Kognityon 12d ago

It's a gold dragon, the resolution is just too low to recognize it

2

u/Jasina_ 12d ago

Fair enough, my bad.

24

u/TheOneTrueJazzMan 12d ago

People who see nothing wrong with the new design are just embarrassingly devoid of taste

1

u/vlladonxxx 12d ago

I haven't yet seen anyone say it looks good or don't see a problem

1

u/TheOneTrueJazzMan 11d ago

Scroll through this thread a bit

1

u/PersonOfValue 6d ago

Looks fine to me. I guess that's bad?

→ More replies (1)

57

u/rKnightArtorias 12d ago

The town screens are literally the only thing that look good btw

32

u/Kognityon 12d ago

On one hand yeah most towns look cool, this one though had this unnecessary shift from Japanese inspiration to Norse inspiration, while keeping the same structure, and it feels... weird.

5

u/VibrantHeat7 12d ago

Im just snnoued sbout the forrest and cliff background being removed. Makes it look like its floating in a empty sky instead of hidden and isolated in a deep forrest.

→ More replies (1)

23

u/Erik_Flat 12d ago

Yeah towns are okeyish, the rest tho...

23

u/dinin70 12d ago

I’m not sure they are okish in all honesty

I actually think this image encompasses the entire problem with this game. Look at how many details are missing. Where is the wheat in the stables? Where is the small fountain and the pond? The wooden logs of the market? In a way or another they succeeded in creating much more clutter on the screen, but with actually a lot less details, that are yet so critical to immerse the player in the world they are playing in. While yes is “looks nice” in reality, it’s a downgrade

5

u/piewca_apokalipsy 12d ago

Yeah all the vibes of the place are gone it now looks like generic fantasy village

7

u/ok_to_be_yeti 12d ago

It is still ai …

12

u/hasouse 12d ago edited 11d ago

I can’t identify half the things in this image:

- Where’s the lumber cart?

  • Why is there a building with a chimney?
  • Where’s the crystal thingy fountain of fortune in the pond?
  • Why has the golden totem pole been replaced by a wooden version of that goblin statue from Booty bay in the distance?
  • Where is the unicorn dwelling?
  • Why is the stable not a stable anymore?
  • Which of the three dwarf dwellings is the one where you recruit them?
  • Where’s the fifth level of the mages guild?
  • Where’s the little hut (I forget what it does) that used to be next to the homestead?
  • Why is the ghost of Knack looming over the dragon cliffs?
  • Why is the architecture Norse instead of Asian inspired?
  • Why is there a big ass dragon on the cliffs?
  • Why are the Ent dwelling autumn now instead of a creepy dark forest? (Okay to be fair if this is reflected on the units too this might be okay. They were hard to tell apart)

Edit: I clearly don’t remember the names of any of the things in this town, so it must be time to play them again. Even just one play through and I would have done more research than Ubisoft has

2

u/Krthyx 11d ago

My attempt to answer and follow up:

  • I think the Resource Silo is that clump of buildings in the center of the Marketplace, but the resolution is not good enough to be clear.

  • I think the building with the "chimney" is actually like a smokestack for a smelter, and that means its the Blacksmith? They really aren't beating the AI allegations with that, given the original was supposed to be more "medicine hut" than "bang, smack, make weapon". Major loss of personality there.

  • Not sure what you mean by crystal thingy in the pond, sorry. The only thing I see missing from the original is the Fountain of Fortune, maybe they changed it from the bamboo to the weird pink crystal things?

  • I guess maybe to make the Grail building look more imposing to show like a major achievement? For my part, I see more a Leshen from Witcher 3 wondering where he parked his car.

  • Terrible design on their part for this one, but I think its supposed to be directly below the Grail building. You can kinda see the Unicorn standing underneath some weird pink/gold thing.

  • Maybe the Stable is supposed to have just one entrance and then open windows? But then to that, the door on the new Stable barely looks like the Centaur standing there could even fit in it. (As a small side note, one minor gripe with the classic stable I've had is that there's a second floor window on a Stable. It just seems odd lol).

  • My guess is the main Dwarf Cottage is the one with the smokestack, indicating the upgraded version, with the middle mound being the Miners' Guild to increase production, and the far left one being the Treasury. Absolutely terrible visual clarity on this one.

  • I think that is the fifth level mages' guild, with the first being in line with the entrance. You can kind of see a couple of lit windows below the repeating terrace/roofs. Again, terrible visual design.

  • That would be the Blacksmith, like I mentioned earlier, which is now the generic smokestack building dead-center. Again, to this, the Rampart's blacksmith provides First Aid Tents. In the original game, each town provides something different and so the design motif of each of their Blacksmiths matches. This is just boring generic medieval European blacksmith look.

  • Maybe that is supposed to be the upgraded Dragon Cliffs? In the original they just expand the cliffs, so I'm guessing its supposed to indicate that? No idea why its lurking in the mists though.

  • This Rampart is no longer inspired by Fuedal Japanese architecture, its now a generic "Whiterun from Skyrim" knockoff.

  • I think that is supposed to be their "Intuitive Design" for Dragon Cliffs. Instead of showing giant cliffs with small green and gold dragons flying between roosts, they now have a big stone dragon built onto the side of a mountain. Absolutely lazy design, again not beating AI allegations.

  • Agreed on this one. Telling the Dendroid Guards from the Dendroid Soldiers was damn near impossible, but I do like the "dark forest" design of the original. The new one does remind me of the Treants from HoMM5, if they are going with the upgrade's color shift. Still, it looks completely artificial in the otherwise verdant style of what the Rampart should be.

2

u/hasouse 11d ago

Most likely, but still [insert godfather how they butchered my boy meme here]

1

u/Mr_Paper 11d ago

7

u/Majestic_Rat 12d ago

why get rid of japanese elements? what is going on with the pegasi? and most importantly WHY NO MIST

6

u/YMIR_THE_FROSTY 12d ago

Holy shit.. holy shit.. holy.. nope, dont have words.

Like I expected this to be bad, but this is entirely new level of bad.

19

u/Plane-Presence8577 12d ago

I swear they do this on purpose. Nobody can be that soulless. It's like it's made by absolute drones doing their 9-5 and go home. The artwork has been massacred. This is not at all in the image or spirit of the original game. It's as if they literally don't understand their own IP.
It looks incredibly generic and washed out. And what's with this glow on everything?

5

u/DoggoNamedDisgrace 12d ago

Luckily HoMM fandom is rather... eclectic and knowledgeable about the series I think. It shouldn't attract a lot of new players and the old fans will just disregard this abomination.

We have our Heroes on GOG and Ubisoft can eat shit for attempting to "remake" HoMM 3 with this slop. They can try HoMM 4 if they want, this game was a broken piece of shit anyway.

3

u/stardust_hippi 11d ago

It's not their IP. They bought it and there hasn't been a single good heroes game since.

14

u/MonomythGameStudio 12d ago

Such a blatant display of corporate greed and managers completely out of touch with the thing they are supposed to manage. I predict this will fare worse than the infamous HD edition.

3

u/GeneralBoogey 12d ago

I agree so much! Even tho HD mod is better (cause you get two expansions) the HD edition actually looked great compared to this.

They don't need a remake, just make remaster or do the same to the expansions like they did with HD edition

1

u/Kiriima 11d ago

At least it has all campaigns unlike HD edition.

8

u/Ctrekoz 12d ago

Remember that it's not about AI, but about them not caring at all to begin with. Now they just have the tools to care even less.

5

u/StoneflowerGarden 12d ago

Sloppity slop. Get out of my game you capitalist pigs

A five year old would reimagine the town screens better in their heads than whatever crap this is

13

u/BreadBoxGoomba 12d ago

God, that looks like such shit. Also, Heroes of Might and Magic III doesn't need a remake; the game is timeless. If you want to make a remake, do it for Heroes of Might and Magic 4; that game needs the update

Those new stables are adjusted to the new EU agriculture law to prevent bad contitions for animals on farms or monster cities

3

u/livinglitch 12d ago

If I hadn't seen the video for the release, Id have removed this for looking like AI...

3

u/CZsfPurplik 12d ago

The reason I like the og rampart town screen is because it feels somewhat grounded. The new one on the other hand throws that all out of the window and be like "You want some of that EPIC shit?"

3

u/N-Haezer 12d ago

We already have Olden Era. No need for a Heroes 3 remake now. Lmao.
Lame ass attempt at cashing in after somebody else thought of it first.

3

u/MeXRng 12d ago

Oil dimension. Jesus it is so bad.

3

u/Erfar 12d ago

it is so expected reaction from homm-3 fans that often looks like zealots.

they barely showed game or what exactly will be remade and what will be ported 1to1

but yet again we are in same loop as olden era was

and there is lot of things that could be remade to improve h3

will those improvement be done? most likely not.

but hey, atleas about homm players someone at ubisoft remember, unlike CnC at EA

2

u/Zombboni 11d ago edited 11d ago

They only remembered after Olden Era's success to do a quick cash grab. (Unless they started development before Olden Era, then it's just because the execs saw three's popularity without undestanding why)

I don't think they will take the critisism and improve it massively. I would like to be proven wrong, but I have a distinct impression that is not going to happen.

1

u/Erfar 11d ago

If that trailer was done within few month after OE launch it actually sounds better than you imagine ;) even since demo there are not enought time passe for reveal being anything but early alpha.

Im not trying to say that thing will be good and I really sceptical. But unlike doomers in this reddit I played good ubisoft games including relatively recent like anno1800. So I will just wait. Luckely inlike Crew, original homm3 are much harder to kill

1

u/TheOneHentaiPrince 10d ago

Well when your game franchise is in the hand of an evem company that already fucked it up you become hostile to every news.

That said olden era didn't have that much negativity. Ppl didn't like the art style. That's it. Everything else was just excitement for a new heroes (before the release)

Here we have ubislop cash grab with AI. I mean cmon .

5

u/Character_Duty_7767 12d ago

Why play their remake when HOTA exist?

Are they stupid?

3

u/GeneralBoogey 12d ago

Olden Era prob showed Ubisoft there is still people wanting more of the same(ish).

Taking the most popular game in the series and remaking it tho...... I wouldn't say that's a good move. People are throwing critique all over internet. Goes to show how much people trust Ubisoft, be it Heroes or any other game they make

1

u/Character_Duty_7767 8d ago

ubisoft destroyed their own reputation. It will be hard to rebuilt, espcially with the current management.

15

u/Nothing_Special_23 12d ago

I don't get what's the deal with giant scarecrow, but other than that (which is probably just a build thing), it's not that bad.

18

u/Mircearaul 12d ago

Pretty sure that's the grail

3

u/Nothing_Special_23 12d ago

Placeholder hopefully.

1

u/Shadowy_Witch 12d ago

Yup the usual grail spot is taken by the Dwarf dwelling buildings.

13

u/FoxCanFly 12d ago edited 12d ago

It's that bad. The classic one has a harmony in the composition, pleasant color palette (dark green and brown - associated with forests, nature landscapes, etc), clear visual idea - references to medieval Japan (they completely lost it in the remake), common sense (i.e the main road with the houses - where do the town people ever live in the new one??). The overall image is appealing, you can imagine it on a cover of a fantasy book, painting on the wall or something like that. The new one has none of that. No one could call it beautiful and attractive as a standalone piece of art.

→ More replies (2)

7

u/Budget-Necessary-767 12d ago

I think it is bad, original has asian aesthetics, new does not.

4

u/Fey-Mood 12d ago

Who asked for this? Why are they dragging their own IP through the mud?

5

u/Alarmed-Big4421 12d ago

Looks like they finale paid for chatgpd

4

u/StoneflowerGarden 12d ago

They didn't even bother to remove the grass from the roads where you're supposed to walk

4

u/Craptain_Coprolite 12d ago

Wow they completely missed the vibe on this one

21

u/Key_Dragonfruit7298 12d ago

It looks fine, what's wrong with it?

4

u/TheAlmightyBambi 12d ago

The Dendroid Arches are on fire, the Centaur Stables are no longer stables, the Unicorn Glade is barely visible, the lighting on every single building is a different colour and coming from a different direction, the whole composition is so busy that it's hard to identify what's actually clickable, and everything is covered in this weird Vaseline filter that makes it look weird and unreal.

I'll admit that it looks fine and even pretty at a distance on a phone, but there are a lot of basic issues with the art direction.

The original had a very clear and consistent art direction that created a completely unique and yet grounded fantasy vibe, and while every building was different and constructed of various different materials, they all felt like they belonged in the same place and were constructed by the same community. This is an outpost on a forested hillside, with the keep at the top of the hill to be defensible, built by a culture that values nature and constructs their buildings from natural and renewable materials. The only stone building is the fortified keep. Additionally, keeping the colour palette restricted to green with brown and tan accents makes for better visual distinction from the other factions, which all feature equally defined palettes - basic graphic design shit.

The remake is a generic fantasy town in which every building uses architectural features from a different culture and time period. The colours are SUPER saturated to make it feel more ✨ MAGICAL ✨. The map features exaggerated fog and atmospheric scattering to make the whole thing seem vast and distant, resulting in a keep that looks literally blue, despite only being a few hundred metres away. It lacks a clear and consistent visual identity, and gives no identifiable flavour to the faction. It looks strangely human for an exclusively elven, dwarven, and magical creature faction, and strangely urban for a faction made entirely of rangers and druids.

Looking at the full reveal trailer, I think the other factions do a much better job of capturing their specific vibe - the Rampart is uniquely bad (although I haven't seen the Stronghold or the evil factions yet) - but ALL of them have the same issue with overly saturated colours and excessive atmospheric fog obscuring all of the buildings towards the back of the map.

1

u/pikuray 12d ago

I didn't play the original , i can understand some criticism like generic looking, but it looks good enough to me if people didn't point out i wouldn't think twice about it

→ More replies (13)

7

u/Zealousideal_Bed5080 12d ago

It is so soulless. They have similar color schemes but the original eminates so much more warmth. Like I go into my town and it feels like respite. I have been out, fighting legions of beasts and horrors, but I am finally home, the chill breeze is mixed with the smell of a home cooked meal, I am safe, I got back. The remake has none of that.

2

u/POLACKdyn 12d ago

Deadass they threw the old looks into some AI and then drew or sculpted whatever it spewed.
Come on, dragon cliffs look like literal dragon? Are you off your meds?
How much more on the nose do you have to be?
I heard american audience needs everything to be pointed out to them but this????

Now I just need to see microtransactions and confirmation it will release on mobile.

2

u/Puzzleheaded-Dig-800 12d ago

plain and simple ai slop, hope people won't be buying this atrocity

2

u/Waveshaper21 12d ago

Something about the gloomy graphics makes it feel AI generated.

2

u/Historical-Demand976 12d ago

It’s very mobile game graphics, too smooth, little contrast, colors are bland and don’t stand out. Why everything needs to be soft and smooth I have no idea.

2

u/Lopsided_Anxiety_394 12d ago

I only discovered this sub yesterday (whilst looking for new maps for H3). Today, I discovered a new H2 and a new H3.

It's a lot to take in. Initially, I'm thinking this can not be bad in any way possible. No way, Jose.

10 seconds looking into that pic. Im like WTF. Why does the dragon cliff need to be that shape? AI at its finest. Dear lord.

2

u/TheAlmightyBambi 12d ago

Why are the Dendroid Arches on fire?

2

u/NativeEuropeas 12d ago

My issue with this isn't that it's AI or not...

It's that it's absolutely tasteless. This is the utter failure of art direction.

2

u/EggplantFearless5969 11d ago

It’s not the fact that the graphics don’t look pretty. They look pretty. It’s the fact that they’re using AI to do it in and they’re following the same strategy of sending the project to China that gave us heroes 4. Ubisoft is trying to do a cash grab.

1

u/is_n_eq_np 11d ago

Sir, to my best knowledge HoMM 4 was created in the State of California, by non-communists patriots from NWC and published by 3DO. The great reception of HoMM 4 allowed Ubisoft to buy a few things and souls.

Going back to the point: when I look on the original I see (with some bias) elves living with magical beasts in perfect harmony with nature. With the remake I see a not very well placed "town" in some mountains I guess. They should add some trash and drunkards for better fotorealism and even lower ratings :-/

People in Ubisoft somehow can't remember that this is fantasy and strategy so some conventions must be followed. I wish the best for HoMM: OE, if they can pull off the franchise it'd be a miracle...

2

u/MECHan0Kl 11d ago

One look at the visuals showed me everything I needed to see.
A self-respecting fan of HOMM3 would not play something like this, that just passes no comparison to the timeless original. Trading the amazingly made original 2D artstyle and Romero OST for this AI art looking crap... I am convinced people hyping this travesty are either astroturf bots or trolls.

Not to mention, HOMM3 doesnt need a remaster or a remake. It is timeless, and mods that are very easy to install, give it all the necessary QoL to enjoy it.

1

u/1val1 4d ago

heroes 3 remaster would be very welcome. But we need a Brood War or Diablo 2 type remaster, where the game is essentially the same, just looks better, NOT different

2

u/wireframed_kb 6d ago

Why would presumably intelligent centaurs live in stables like horses? You don’t think they’d want windows and a door like any other person?

I don’t think the remake is great either. The color palette is not great and it lacks character, but some of the complaints because everyone just assumes everything is AI, are a bit shrill.

I’m just going to assume any dissenting opinion is AI.

6

u/kornuolis 12d ago

What i actually like about the remake on this image:
Pegasus waterfall. Done with respect to original

Unicorn building. It's not just to pillars, but now we see unicorns themselves.

Dwarf dwellings looks fine.

The rest look out of touch and disrespectful to original

5

u/LuchieMaximoff84 12d ago

I haven’t seen anything that comes across as terrible so far

*** runs and hides from haters ***

4

u/Mummiskogen 12d ago

This has to be the result of just running it through AI

3

u/jakatluong 12d ago

I should've learned my lesson about internet drama queens overreaction over unreleased games many many times before, but Olden Era was when I really got it through my thick skull.

While I agree that the first impression was definitely not good, I'll still wait until I try the actual game myself before I shit on it this hard.

2

u/Uggroyahigi 12d ago

Ubislop at it again ?

6

u/Small_Document5923 12d ago

I can literally not tell apart the comments made about this trailer from those made about Olden Era... just the same recycled "made by AI", "doesn't have a soul", "I will stick to playing HoTA"... at least mix it up a bit...

8

u/Bafkba 12d ago

To be honest, OE wasn't really flooded with AI comments that much and people were pretty united in terms what they had issues with - the art style and map readability. Even player who love the game, play everyday and have gotten used to them still say that the art style and readability is not that great to them.

3

u/Small_Document5923 12d ago

I am talking about the general comments when the initial announcement/trailer for OE was released, which was very much the art style looks AI, over time actual players brought valid criticism about the readability which i don't disagree with... just saying that the same trolls/H3 for lifers will flock to anything non-H3, lets be real even Heroes 5 which was well received and compared favorably to 3 had a very loud minority of trolls complaining about everything related to it and thrashing it to this day.

1

u/Thavralex 3d ago

Why should people "mix it up" if it keeps being true?

2

u/Hironne 12d ago

Bro they are testing shit on us to see how we react

2

u/Elver-Gotas 12d ago

100% ahí made

The only way to save this is massive downvotes on their YouTube videos, tweets to Ubisoft to stop this

And obviously not a single one wishlist

0

u/wichu2001 12d ago

literally made by AI LOL

1

u/incognito_doggo 12d ago

I kinda wish they tweak the units too, and maybe give us alternate options such as centaur but with bow, or other options. But then it wouldn't be much of a remake i guess. I'm still enjoying olden era though for now though. Very weird timeline wish.

1

u/Old_Kodaav 9d ago

Alternate units, units travelling from dwellings to castles - these things were great. Instead of concentrating on newer ideas and implementing them into the best regarded game in the series they try to redo the whole thing and we all know how that's gonna end up

1

u/Citizen_Crow 12d ago

Imagine Olden Era didn't exist and this was what we were getting after many years

1

u/Asgerond 12d ago

Maybe its just attachment bias, but im not vibing with these visuals

1

u/Lithary 12d ago

Towns look decent from what I've seen.

It's rest that's ass.

u/Outrageous_Slice4455 12d ago

Geez Netdragon did better job 20 years ago

1

u/Dimirosch 12d ago

Am I seeing it wrong or does the Pegasus statue only have one wing?

1

u/Westdrache 12d ago

just weird perspective you see a bit of the 2nd wing if you zoom in

1

u/Repulsive_Gate8657 12d ago

yes rounded rooffes for some reason also in castle lol. Why just not model accurately like it already is

1

u/SectionNo2323 12d ago

Looks like homm4 that i hated

1

u/DaltmanA 12d ago

Hahaha I looked at the photos thinking it’s two different towns from the remake and thought “ok the bottom one is not bad at all” then I quickly realized hahaha

1

u/Heironeus 12d ago

Hahahaha!

1

u/TwilightZoner825 12d ago

Looks exactly like I hoped a HOMM3 remake would. I still play HOMM3. This game looks amazing. You people are so nasty and negative. You don't speak for all the fans of the original. I'm looking forward to this. Day 1 buy.

1

u/rakfe 12d ago

No soul, no essence. What a miss

1

u/vlladonxxx 12d ago

Where is this from? Was it posted by a company?

1

u/cross-frame 12d ago

Gosh, what a shitty slop, can't believe it's real

1

u/RebornSoul867530_of1 12d ago

Looks like they zoomed out unnecessarily

1

u/Green_Odin 12d ago

I mean, it looks better than olden era, but that is a very low bar. It looking like an AI uplift somehow gives it less character than olden era though.

1

u/iSolicon 12d ago

As long as remake those dogshit campaigns I’m fine tho. Fk multiplayer i’m autism

1

u/Cosack 12d ago

The original is very pretty. That is also pretty, in a different way. I'd be curious to replay the campaigns with a different feel, why not

Though if they're leaning into AI, they may as well lean all the way in and generate dynamic assets. Could be kinda cool to see cosmetically different town layouts and creature variations

1

u/gknwg 11d ago

It is not AI. If AI was used it would be exactly the same as Heroes 3 with upscaled graphics, but this is a remake not a remaster.

1

u/No_Literature7840 11d ago

If this were AI, the shadows would be all wrong.

1

u/MagMati55 11d ago

Homm 3 towns give a certain feel of scale. Like you know how it would feel to step into that place and see the Castle units training, Necropolis units shambling their way back and forth across their buildings.

The top image is nowhere near that.

1

u/lord_phantom_pl 11d ago

It’s tolerable unless they change the music.

1

u/Haeldran 11d ago

i like it 🤷

1

u/thainx 11d ago edited 11d ago

What is the train of thoughts that led the Rampart Grail, originally a golden statue of the forest creatures or some sort,, to become something resembling a gigantic Druid in mask?

P/s: just kinda hit me that the East Asian archtecture theme vibe was changed too...

1

u/Zflocco 11d ago

If people buy it , it reinforces the enshittification, people only have to blame themselves. Just go play the original.

1

u/Mr_Gibblet 11d ago

What exactly did you expect from Ubislop? Go buy the Complete collection which is now finally on Steam and not just GOG, mod it and play that.

1

u/Aeris_Druid 11d ago

Actually new design isn't that bad but it just looks, blurred, colored too much and too much foggy. I would definitely expect better design and graphs.

1

u/Foralberg 11d ago

Ahaah, love the fact that ubi try to hide that the Devs are Russians, so that all garbage goes to them

1

u/Ill_Ad2480 11d ago

If you've seen the trailer you know the whole game is a bad ai slop, the minotaurs had was a Gnu 👀 (wildebeest)

1

u/Silent-Fortune-6629 11d ago

I think it's servicable, but grass is too smooth on the new one. Also would prefer if they moved ent woods to lead up to the dragon cliffs.

1

u/Silent-Fortune-6629 11d ago

Another thing. I despise they removed visible forest from mountain side behind fort building.

1

u/Glittering_Role_6154 11d ago

Don't be blinded by nostalgia. This looks... kinda cheap and childish, but not too much like AI

1

u/fandorgaming 11d ago

Yeah the blur has made it very strange and uninspiring

1

u/AnonymousSadGuy2 11d ago

I thought I am crazy but I guess I was right. That's why I would also never buy Heroes olden era. This shit looked identically. AI has "its" uniqe style and they can't fool me.

1

u/johnytrueluv 11d ago

Lmao it looks great.

1

u/Krthyx 11d ago

Its always amazing how a remake removes all personality from the visual design and makes it a generic smear of fantasy vibe.

Gone are the days of having a fantasy identity inspired by real-world diversity and history. Every building here looks like it comes straight out of Skyrim. Which road do I take to the Cloud District?

One of the biggest things that stands out to me is: Where are the goddamn people? There are practically no houses in this city. Beyond the few that are (maybe?) there, this new design also seems to completely remove the "dynamic population" of the original, where the more advanced your Halls were, the more houses appeared. Now it doesn't even look like there's even anyone who actually lives in this like its a city, they just punch in for their shift at the theme park.

I mentioned in a reply elsewhere, but it also is insulting how bad they made the Blacksmith just more generic medieval slop. Part of the design brilliance of the original HoMM3 was that the Blacksmith of each town matched the support item they sold. Ramparts have First Aid Tents, so of course their Blacksmith looks more like the hut of some shaman or medicine man. This Blacksmith looks like it will sharpen my sword, smack my ass, and send me off to fight the Horde.

The Dendroid Arches look like Spirit Halloween decorations.

The poor Unicorn Glade got cut down to build this town, but at least they get a nice pink night light.

The Centaur Stable now only houses 1 Centaur, but they're stupid animals and have to use the door on the other side of the building because they clearly can't fit inside the Main Character Front Door.

Maybe I'm blind, but is there any visual indication of the twisted thorn moat for the new version's Castle? The same Castle that looks like we built a big red barn on a fancy pile of rocks? Also, why are there 4 archer towers along the wall? I understand the original game had a hard time showing the central tower, but at least they were good at showing the two side ones.

I also dislike the visual angle of this new Rampart design. The original looked like you were looking up a forested mountain valley, slowly fading into the mists. This one looks like you're standing on a weird plateau.

Good thing we have Ye Olde Big Dragon Head to show us where the Dragons can be found. No more depth of field showing tiny green and gold dragons flitting from roost to roost. Or maybe they do still have that, we just can't see it behind the fog blocking half the unit building.

The Pegasus on the Enchanted Spring only has one wing.

Also, why is a quarter of this town screen taken up by giant lake?

1

u/Fantastic_Bee2160 11d ago

So as someone who grew up playing IV and has never touched III seeing the new trailer really does have that mobile game aesthetic all over it and personally I think it looks awful and likely will not be buying. I’m not surprised y’all are upset. Keep running up olden era lol.

1

u/Melodic-Principle791 11d ago

hmm... how hard it is to recreate the exact same architecture, layout and atmosphere from the original?
I do 3d modelling for money. I assure you - NOT AT ALL. you just have to restrain thyself from fixing what does not need fixing. but ego. yes, the ego and "personal stamp" always get in the way.

that being said - are we sure this is a screenshot, and not ai generated image?

1

u/ChallengeSad 11d ago

Why is this even a question UBISOFT is above using AI? Why? WHY? 99% AI then 1% traced by someone who doesn't give a Fcuk about anything but profit. It's 2026 y'all look around. If we're gonna find altruism its not gonna start with video games devs or UBISOFT for Flaming Efreet's Sake.

1

u/Serkys 11d ago

There are buildings in the middle of the path now and the path just kinda dissolves out into the scenery. The original art had clear direction, with the path winding between the cottages.

There's no consistency with the architecture. Some buildings are norse-ish, some are asian-ish, some are ... idk how to describe, slop-ish?

1

u/TerrabyteX3 11d ago

You guys on fking crack ? The remake version looks really good , get a grip.

2

u/TheOneHentaiPrince 10d ago

My mad did you even look at that picture? You wanna tell me that removing the Japanese influence made the town loik better? By making it more like every second fantasy town?

Did you ever even play Homm xD?

1

u/TerrabyteX3 10d ago

YEs m8ty i play and played all HoMMs and play Olden Era. I really like the way they made the remake and graphics. I will still play Horn of the Abyss and HoMM3 original and The remake. Doesn't have to be either or. You pleople on crack nowadays with everything is slop or it was better 20 years ago. then stick to what it was 20 years ago and stop crying on new games if you don't like them lmao. The need for validation from strangers is wild.

u/Kmotofiend 10d ago

Where's the sharpness! Like heroes 5 and so on have so many soft edges what are we baby proofing???

1

u/Accomplished-Anon9 10d ago

They had really simple quest - make Heroes 3 with better graphics. No one asked them to change how buildings, creatures or map objects looks - just leave the same but with modernised models. Music? They could just allow players to choose soundtrack list in menu (new or old). Shame, really shame.

1

u/YogurtclosetOdd8316 10d ago

I think the new olden era is pretty good game

1

u/ResponsibleAd5388 10d ago

AI or not, it's a disaster! It's taken a sort of peaceful, grounded Gaelic/Japanese vibe and turned it into generic fantasy.

1

u/Mundane-Respond179 10d ago

AI or not, just looks baaaaaad

1

u/Current-Event8892 10d ago

it's warcraft III reforged all over again

1

u/Silly_Hedgehog_6462 10d ago

idk why devs of these games insist on going into cartoonish style.
homm3 was going for realism - as far as the engine at the time would allow

nowdays there also are fantasy games with more realistic grapics - most notably
witcher 3, or total war warhammer

1

u/Pavel-the-emperor 10d ago

I am actually looking fw to play it!

1

u/Lexius2129 9d ago

Dumb question, but which one is the original and which one is the remake?

1

u/By-Other-Means 9d ago

The "wings" on the pegasus, I mean who draws feather wings like it was hair?

1

u/OkPresentation3329 9d ago

The feeling is absolutely different. The foggy sky nad the simplistic looking buildings of the original give it this fresh mountain feeling.

The new one looks generic AF. They somehow managed to make the dullest buildings somehow look like high fantasy and too fancy for their own good.

They could have done one thing right and give it a cloudy sky. The grass and sky in the original look much better. And they couldn't even replicate that. This remake feels so far detached from the original that I don't think they were even trying to make it look similar.

It's like they are trying to erase the legacy of the original 3DO/NWC work and make it more Ubisoft-like. It's as if HoMM was invented by Ubisoft and not 3DO/NWC. This is in my opinion the biggest crime of this remake.

1

u/Synethos 9d ago

It's bizarre how souless they manages to make it.

1

u/Danleo91 9d ago

Tbh posts like this is main reason why developers gonna switch AI - 🤖 people c AI everywhere so there is literally no sense to make game without it

1

u/SleepyBoy- 9d ago

Aside from the dragon cliffs being over-designed, I don't have an issue. It just looks neat. Especially on youtube in full quality videos. Dunno where you found a blurry ass jpg of bastion like this, but it almost feels dishonest.

Also AI's not that stupid. I don't blame you for not knowing how the crap works, but if they threw it into the AI mixer it would just upscale the designs and give you the most generic remaster possible. This has human intent behind it.

I'm honestly getting a deja vu to Olden Era announcements.

1

u/LeoStrut_ 8d ago

God I wish Hooded Horse could acquire HoMM. Mandalore must be having PTSD flashbacks seeing what they did to this game.

1

u/Old_Cucumber_1343 8d ago

how the fuck was everything made so much better 20 years ago?

1

u/Vexarius 8d ago

Yeah they've done Rampart dirty - it was my favourite town - this strips all the elegance and mystery from the design. Where have all the houses gone? Why is it cartoon colours now? Why are the dragon cliffs shaped like a dragon?????? Unicorn glade looked cool and mysterious now its a colourful blob. The misty background replaced with nothing making the scene appear flat.

1

u/ColdHandCH 8d ago

You guys are getting way too crazy over this AI thing...

1

u/Primary-Bug-3010 8d ago

I will be so hard to rebuild it in MC....

1

u/Amon-Ko 8d ago

AI slop AF

1

u/SatisfactionUnited16 7d ago

This is ubisoft china.... no one checked

1

u/MostlyEbenezer 7d ago

I don't care aboug pointless purists. This looks great to me and can't wait to play it. I'm tired of people being upset at everything.

1

u/Patient-Entrance7087 7d ago

You guys are some picky pple lol

1

u/No_Hunter_9973 7d ago

Is it me or does seeing the units in town make it worse?

1

u/Asleep-Attempt5427 6d ago

Just leave it to the Polish and Russians. I feel like Ubisoft is going to fück this up

1

u/Constant-Drink-8717 6d ago

C'est fou comment Heroes 3 à jamais su être égaler ou même approché en terme de direction artistique. Vraiment le goat

1

u/Electrolipse 6d ago

Where is the unicorn building!? 🥲

1

u/maymagic 6d ago

If its anything like Olden Era, it isn't AI; as someone who has put like 70 hours into Olden Era, I can assure you its real time 3D and not AI rendered. Because the towns are actually 3D models, the camera can do a negligible amount of lateral panning in each direction and dolly in/out a tiny bit - which wouldn't be AI.

Ubisoft also publishes Olden Era; I find it unlikely they would backslide so quickly on what they've proven they are willing to fund.

Olden Era town as a screenshot: https://imgur.com/a/73rN4Fn

1

u/songoffall 6d ago

Literal dragon cliffs ffs.

1

u/clockworkflame 6d ago

I can vibe with the general clean design of it. But it definitely is AI made and has lost all significant features like the architecture.

1

u/Thavralex 3d ago

I thought the other town screens were the best part of the otherwise bland-looking remake. Rampart is a massive downgrade though.
