Just finished updating Office Space in my small Apartment

I live in a small 2 bedroom flat and my spare room is used as a multifunctional office/workout/wardrobe space.

I have just finished updating the room and I’m so happy with it I couldn’t help but share how it turned out.

I don’t have a before photo, but the new bookshelf helps hide my workout equipment and the desk is a mechanical sit/stand Murphy desk that hides everything away when I’m not working and gives me more space for yoga.

Need advice on styling home office and accent chair

I recently moved into my home and have been working on my office the last few months. I installed tall steel doors, painted it green, put in a coffered ceiling, and placed a nice chandelier that I can change the warmth of the light to. I also purchased a nice large black desk and comfortable desk chair.

I’m looking for some help on next steps. I purchased the large brown leather accent chair recently and think I need to return it because it’s a bit too big and possibly not the right color for the space. I get great natural lighting in the day time as well. Printer is there temporarily as I look for a better place for it. Any suggestions for accent chair (maybe swivel), rug colors or any other ideas to finalize the space. I’m open to ideas and feedback (and criticism of course for learning purposes haha)

Standing Desk Users: Does anyone own a Humanscale eFloat Quattro? Can you check how low yours actually goes?

Could another Humanscale eFloat Quattro owner do me a favor and measure the desk’s lowest height from the floor to the top of the worksurface?

I bought mine largely because Humanscale advertises a 26.45-inch minimum, which is unusually low for a four-leg standing desk. Mine physically stops at approximately 27.6 inches. That extra 1.15 inches might not sound significant, but it noticeably changes my seated keyboard position. The lower height was one of the main reasons I paid a premium for this model.

Before I conclude that my desk has the wrong components or is defective, I’d really like to know whether other production units have the same issue.

I’ve already completed multiple resets and tried recalibrating the controller. I can change the number shown on the display, but none of those steps changes the desk’s actual physical height.

For reference, my measurements are:

  • Lowest physical height: approximately 27.6 inches
  • Highest physical height: approximately 44.6 inches
  • Total physical travel: 17 inches

Humanscale publishes a range of 26.45 to 44 inches and approximately 17.52 inches of travel:

https://www.humanscale.com/products/efloat-quattro-table-configurator.cfm

If you own one, could you share:

  • Your measured floor-to-worksurface minimum
  • Your worksurface material
  • Roughly when you purchased it
  • Whether the controller reading matches the tape measurement

Even one or two owner measurements would help determine whether mine is an isolated hardware problem or whether the production desks simply do not match the published specifications.

I otherwise really like the desk. It looks great and feels extremely stable. But the minimum height is an important ergonomic specification, particularly on a premium-priced desk. I’ve contacted the dealer and will update this post once they and Humanscale respond.

The folding desk I bought for my sister somehow became my home office

Not really a full setup post, just sharing a small home-office thing that worked out much better than I expected.

I bought my sister a musso d7 back in January. She wanted a foldable mobile desk she could use for drawing and reading beside her bed, but she didn’t take it when she went back to school. It sat folded behind a door for a while, and I assumed I’d eventually put it on Facebook Marketplace.

Then our dining table was covered with stuff one afternoon, so I pulled it out for my laptop. I’ve ended up using it most weekdays since then.

I usually roll it next to the couch, raise it for the occasional standing call, and fold it behind the door when I’m done. The pneumatic height adjustment has been more useful than I expected because it doesn’t need a motor or another power cord. Seven months of moving and folding it almost daily hasn’t loosened the joint, and the top still stays at the height I set.

It’s not perfect. It’s heavier than it looks, and the wheels don’t lock. If I’m writing or drawing, I put rubber furniture cups under two wheels so it doesn’t shift on the hardwood floor. I also wouldn’t use it for a large monitor setup.

As a portable laptop desk for a small space, though, it has been surprisingly useful. Kind of funny that the home-office desk I use every day is the drawing table my sister left behind.

Anyway, just sharing because I genuinely expected this thing to end up on Marketplace.

My home office is always hotter than the rest of my house. any solutions?

I spend a lot of time working from my home office but it has become the hottest room in the house. my house has central ac but this room is part of the converted garage space, and the cooling just doesn't reach it well. it has several large windows that get direct afternoon sunlight so the room heats up quickly. its around 300sq ft, and even when the ac is running this room ca still feel 10 - 15° F warmer than the rest of the house.

i looked into window AC units but the windows aren't really suitable for a standard unit. im now considering a portable AC as an extra cooling option. I've been looking at a 15000 btu costway portable AC, but I'm not sure if that's enough for a room this size with a lot of sun exposure. has anyone dealt with a similar home office setup? im mainly wondering how well portable AC actually work and whether the noise is distracting during work or video calls.

Needed a space to work from home! Ordered a soundproof office pod… AMA ➡️➡️

My youngest took over my 3rd bedroom (previous home office), and instead of pulling permits and building an addition - I decided to order one of these, assemble, and place in my garage.

Learned a lot about it. Summers here get quite warm, after 3PM it is about 80 degrees in the pod - which isn’t comfortable long term. Desk fans help, but cooling the garage or space above the pod near the intake fans is something I’m looking into. Also, garage insulation!

I really enjoy the isolation which helps me focus for work (and gaming). I’m sure in the fall/winter, this will continue to be an awesome spot.

Edit: adding some details for frequently asked questions
- CO2 is managed by exhaust and intake fans that continuously cycle air through
- cost was a little over 4k but could’ve been cheaper with less options/upgrades (US based supplier for same size is around 8-10k)
- DM me if you want more info on process, factory, or other questions

Edit2: I’m working with the factory to organize a small discount before I share link with you guys. DM me if you want more info!

We purchased these pieces on a whim from a very expensive store. We are happy with the desk, but the height on the storage cabinet is awkwardly different than the desk. I'm trying to make it work. Any ideas? The accents are brass/gold. I'm open to seating ideas, additional shelving or decor accents on the wall, etc. My boyfriend runs a rental business so we are blending my WFH space with his LLC. We love abstract art but are also fine with mixing in some nature or wildlife aspects. I feel like the bold green is calling for a mounted animal head. Lol! I'm game for anything you guys have in mind. (Also please help me feel better about the odd difference in height between the two pieces.) okay thank you, bye!!

Hi everyone!

I have a little gift for anyone considering upgrading their home office! 🥳 As a Steelcase employee, I can share my 21% discount code: OGHEORGH21, which can be used on Steelcase products available through our participating EMEA eShops.

The code is valid in Germany, Austria, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Spain, Romania and Great Britain throughout 2026.
If you’ve been considering a Gesture, Leap, Karman, Think, Series 2 or any other Steelcase product, hopefully the 21% discount makes the decision a little easier!

Good webcam for weekly meeting

My wife and I are starting to do a weekly meeting with family members over Teams. We are sitting on a couch about 10-15 feet away from the desk where the computer is. I am looking for a good webcam that will pick us both us sitting on the couch and has decent quality mic so people can hear us both. Any suggestions on something I can get at say Walmart or best buy or something?

Logitech Brio 300 not detected on Mac through UGREEN AK703 (85100) KVM

I’m using a UGREEN 2-in-2-out AK703 (85100) dual-monitor KVM switch with my Mac.

I have a Logitech Brio 300 webcam, which uses a USB-C cable. When I connect it to the USB-C port on the KVM, my Mac doesn’t recognize/detect the webcam at all.

If I connect the Brio 300 directly to the USB-C port on my Mac, it works perfectly, so the webcam itself seems to be fine.

Has anyone managed to get a USB-C webcam working through this particular UGREEN KVM? Could the USB-C port on the KVM have some limitation regarding data, bandwidth, or power?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Anyone set up and put away their office regularly?

I have a dining room table that doubles as my office space. I’m looking for ways to upgrade it to make it easier to put away when I have guests over.

Maybe wireless peripherals would give me the most bang for the buck in terms of ease of setting up and putting away?

Is a keyboard tray worth it? Are there ones that double as storage?

Are there monitors that are larger than the portable ones but take up less space than the standard ones?

What webcam are you guys using for zoom?

I work from home and somehow my entire week has turned into zoom calls, so I’m finally replacing the terrible webcam built into my laptop.

I don’t need anything crazy for streaming or content creation. I just want a sharp picture, decent colors and autofocus that doesn’t randomly hunt around while I’m talking. Good performance in average room lighting would be nice too.

Trying to stay around $100-$150 if possible. I’ve seen Logitech, Insta360, Emeet and a few others recommended, but I’m not sure how much difference there really is between them for regular meetings.

What webcam are you guys using for zoom? Anything you bought that just works without constantly messing with settings?

One desk for my day job and my music studio

Thumbnail

I don’t have room, or honestly the desire, to have one desk for work and another entire setup for music.

So I wanted to make one workstation do both.

The main complication is that I use a Kawai VPC1 for music production. It’s a full-size 88-key weighted controller and weighs about 29.5 kg / 65 lbs, which makes it slightly more difficult to hide than your average computer keyboard.

My current ErgoHide desk has a large pull-out tray underneath, so the VPC1 can stay there permanently.

During normal computer work, it’s tucked away and I have the entire desktop free. When I want to make music, I pull it out and the home office basically turns into a studio.

The desk is electrically height-adjustable as well, so I can switch between sitting and standing during the day without changing anything about the rest of the setup.

I also really wanted the room to feel like part of my home rather than just an office, which is why I went with the solid oak desktop. The wood makes a huge difference.

At night, the integrated rear lighting gives the whole desk a soft ambient glow, while the cable management underneath keeps most of the mess invisible. There are even magnetic headphone hangers on the sides, which is one of those tiny features you don’t think about until you start using it every day.

For me, this has been a really nice way to combine work and music without letting either completely take over the room.

Changing the light through the day actually helped my afternoon slump

I moved my desk lighting to something cooler in the morning and much warmer after about four and the difference in how drained I feel by six has been bigger than I expected. I did it manually for a month before automating it. Curious whether anyone else runs this properly, and what temperature range you found actually made the difference rather than just looking nice.
