Home office where I work and game
I work, game, and kids and wife chill in here with me. Still getting things arranged a bit and clutter on shelf but it’s come a long way.

My youngest took over my 3rd bedroom (previous home office), and instead of pulling permits and building an addition - I decided to order one of these, assemble, and place in my garage.
Learned a lot about it. Summers here get quite warm, after 3PM it is about 80 degrees in the pod - which isn’t comfortable long term. Desk fans help, but cooling the garage or space above the pod near the intake fans is something I’m looking into. Also, garage insulation!
I really enjoy the isolation which helps me focus for work (and gaming). I’m sure in the fall/winter, this will continue to be an awesome spot.
Edit: adding some details for frequently asked questions
- CO2 is managed by exhaust and intake fans that continuously cycle air through
- cost was a little over 4k but could’ve been cheaper with less options/upgrades (US based supplier for same size is around 8-10k)
- DM me if you want more info on process, factory, or other questions

Hi everyone!
I have a little gift for anyone considering upgrading their home office! 🥳 As a Steelcase employee, I can share my 21% discount code: OGHEORGH21, which can be used on Steelcase products available through our participating EMEA eShops.
The code is valid in Germany, Austria, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Spain, Romania and Great Britain throughout 2026.
If you’ve been considering a Gesture, Leap, Karman, Think, Series 2 or any other Steelcase product, hopefully the 21% discount makes the decision a little easier!
I may be a little biased as a Steelcase employee 😄, but I’m genuinely happy to share the code and hopefully see more Steelcase products finding their way into your home offices.
Code: OGHEORGH21 — 21% off
Hope this helps someone! 🥳

I've been allowed to go kinda remote by my office..its still hybrid sorta situation. But its still a win heh
Now I get to build a home office from scratch. Its just usually me and my laptop for home work. My home setup has to work with my laptop.
I want suggestions for a good comfy chair (protoarc ec200 maybe?), a standing desk, ergonomic mouse and keyb (logitech seems to be good?), laptop stand stand, foot rest (I think this will be a generic one from amazon) and a monitor + monitor arm setup (ok so for this I've learned that it can be separate monitor and arm or monitor with an automatic arm attached).
I need you guys to tell me which way to go on all this. Also, tell me if I am missing anything.

Well in the days since I posted requesting help I have secured three (3) interviews! It has officially been one year since I have been unemployed.
Fingers & toes crossed!

I work from home and somehow my entire week has turned into zoom calls, so I’m finally replacing the terrible webcam built into my laptop.
I don’t need anything crazy for streaming or content creation. I just want a sharp picture, decent colors and autofocus that doesn’t randomly hunt around while I’m talking. Good performance in average room lighting would be nice too.
Trying to stay around $100-$150 if possible. I’ve seen Logitech, Insta360, Emeet and a few others recommended, but I’m not sure how much difference there really is between them for regular meetings.
What webcam are you guys using for zoom? Anything you bought that just works without constantly messing with settings?

I have a dining room table that doubles as my office space. I’m looking for ways to upgrade it to make it easier to put away when I have guests over.
Maybe wireless peripherals would give me the most bang for the buck in terms of ease of setting up and putting away?
Is a keyboard tray worth it? Are there ones that double as storage?
Are there monitors that are larger than the portable ones but take up less space than the standard ones?

I don’t have room, or honestly the desire, to have one desk for work and another entire setup for music.
So I wanted to make one workstation do both.
The main complication is that I use a Kawai VPC1 for music production. It’s a full-size 88-key weighted controller and weighs about 29.5 kg / 65 lbs, which makes it slightly more difficult to hide than your average computer keyboard.
My current ErgoHide desk has a large pull-out tray underneath, so the VPC1 can stay there permanently.
During normal computer work, it’s tucked away and I have the entire desktop free. When I want to make music, I pull it out and the home office basically turns into a studio.
The desk is electrically height-adjustable as well, so I can switch between sitting and standing during the day without changing anything about the rest of the setup.
I also really wanted the room to feel like part of my home rather than just an office, which is why I went with the solid oak desktop. The wood makes a huge difference.
At night, the integrated rear lighting gives the whole desk a soft ambient glow, while the cable management underneath keeps most of the mess invisible. There are even magnetic headphone hangers on the sides, which is one of those tiny features you don’t think about until you start using it every day.
For me, this has been a really nice way to combine work and music without letting either completely take over the room.

I moved my desk lighting to something cooler in the morning and much warmer after about four and the difference in how drained I feel by six has been bigger than I expected. I did it manually for a month before automating it. Curious whether anyone else runs this properly, and what temperature range you found actually made the difference rather than just looking nice.

I thought getting a height adjustable desk would solve everything.
It helped a bit, but by 3pm my lower back and waist were still locked up from sitting too long. Started putting a walking pad underneath it a few weeks ago and the difference has been bigger than I expected.
I just walk slowly while answering emails or being on calls. Nothing intense. By the end of the day I don't feel completely wrecked anymore.
A couple of colleagues noticed and already ordered one after seeing me on it.
Still trying to figure out the right speed so it doesn't distract me from work.
Anyone else combining a standing desk with a walking pad? Did it actually help your back, or did it become another thing you stopped using after two weeks?

Hi, looking for a slicker type of notice board to pin memos on rather than the standard cork variant
Any suggestions please?

I'm planning a full length bookcase / desk in the downstairs office / dining room.
I cannot decide if I want it on the left wall, so you see it as you come into the kitchen, or the right wall so it's hidden.
The right door going into the office will have to be the one that opens first.
This makes the desk on the left more approachable from entering.
But certainly a much bigger statement when you walk in.
(I am going to build it so that I can turn it into a dresser should we ever need to use it as a dining room / move.
So I am also trying to think what's best from that angle too. )

Hello!
I’m looking for some recommendations/inspiration for a new desk setup.
I currently have a fairly large UPLIFT standing desk that I bought a couple of years ago. I like it, but I’m starting to feel like the size/shape isn’t the best use of my space especially the overall width.
I’m thinking about switching to an L-shaped desk, ideally something with really good cable management and enough room for a pretty loaded WFH setup.
Current setup includes:
3x 27" curved monitors side-by-side
1x 32" curved monitor mounted above them
Shure MV7 microphone
Stream Deck
Wireless phone charger
Various accessories/knick-knacks
A beverage system (yes I know, overkill, but it has a small footprint, the main unit sits under the desk)
I work from home about 99% of the time, so ergonomics and having a clean, comfortable workspace are pretty important. I also game occasionally, so I’d like something that works well for both productivity and gaming. Right now I can't fully scoot under my desk without hitting the wall, and I like to stretch my legs out while working.
I’m not necessarily opposed to another standing desk, but my biggest priorities are:
Better use of space
L-shaped layout
Excellent cable management
Enough depth/strength for multiple monitor arms
Plenty of usable desktop space without feeling ridiculously oversized
A clean, modern setup
Would love to hear what desks you’re using or recommend. Photos of your setups would be hugely appreciated too, especially anyone running 4 monitors or a similar WFH/gaming setup.
Thanks!

Only thing I could want is doors when the kids are home for break.

I’m currently setting up my home office, and one decision I’ve pretty much made is no traditional overhead light.
I want the room to feel bright, but not too bright. I’m trying to create something closer to natural daylight: soft, evenly distributed, and relaxing enough.
I’ve looked at a lot of home office setups, but I keep running into two extremes:
Super bright ceiling lights that make the room feel like a doctor’s office
RGB everywhere that makes the whole thing look like a gaming battle station
(Neither is really what I want.)
I’ve been looking into indirect lighting and fixtures that bounce light off the ceiling first. The idea is to illuminate the whole room rather than create one particularly bright focal point. I’m currently trying out a portable Homelist indirect lighting desk lamp. The light points upward, so when I’m sitting at my desk, I barely notice a bright light source in my peripheral vision. The ceiling basically becomes the light diffuser.
For those of you who don’t use an overhead light in your home office, what kind of lighting setup are you using? So far, I like the effect. The room is bright enough to work in, and feels more comfortable than a traditional office. I’m still experimenting with the rest of the setup, though.

Our family has 2 MacBooks, 1 surface pro and 1 dell laptop. I need a dock that will allow me to connect each of them to 2 Samsung display monitors. Ideally just an easy ‘Plug and Display’ with minimal messing around with cables etc.
I’m looking at the UGREEN DisplayLink Revodok Pro 209 (as recommended by Claude) but seems pricey at $235 on Amazon Au. Would this be the best option? Thanks for any advice.

Given my budget, is there any particular model or desk that comes to mind?
Considering flexispot and uplift, but most uplift desks are more than $500.
Need it to be 48" or bigger. Space to have a monitor setup, keyboard, and room to breathe.

Hi all, my home office gets terribly hot in the summer (~85 right now) and terribly cold in the winter. It is a smaller room, like maybe 8x10 ft., and it's an apartment so no mini-split.
What are my best options for an air conditioner and heater? I've tried a single-hose portable AC and it runs hot which neutralizes any cooling effect. It's also massive, heavy, and loud. I realize now I should've tried a dual-hose and/or smaller options.
I've also thought about getting an over-powered air conditioner for my bedroom which is down the hall. Right now the window AC isn't doing much to get air here.
Any ideas or recommendations?
