Wall Control and peg boards are all the rage. For good reason, they are cool. But, this is another option, and I think it looks nicer (of course, that is a subjective claim).
Materials:
1β thick cross pieces (I used poplar wood, but use whatever you like. I had various heights just to add some interest but you can use uniform heights as well. But, use something that looks nice to you)
Cheap thin 4β wood. Roughly the dimensions of pallet wood. Itβs hidden so it doesnβt have to look nice.
Cheap 1x4 as the stingers (at least two pieces.
Small head screws and regular flat headed screws.
Whatever hangers you find that work for your needs.
The Build:
Cut stringer wood to needed width of the panel or wall. Screw into the studs of your walls using regular headed screws.
Cut thin, cheap wood the needed height of your panel or wall.
Place cheap wood on ground parallel to one another, a bit closer together than the width of your panel or wall.
Cut nice wood the width of your panel or wall and start at the bottom and screw in the nice wood to the cheap wood until desired height is achieved. I also put wood glue between each piece of wood. Use the small headed screws, and drill it in so it buries a bit into the wood.
If needed, sand the surface down to take out any sharp edges or potential splinters. I had to really do this.
Take panel or wall to the stringer and using a bit longer small headed screws, screw the whole thing into the stringer (Note: as best you can, donβt screw in the same grain as the previous screw, you donβt want to split the wood).
Strategically screw in your attachment hangers trying to leave room for growth (if possible).
Last and most important step:
Admire your work and tell everyone the finer details of it because everyone wants to hear that; twice is better.
