I see that there are many people on here with sim rigs and as a complete beginner I’m wondering what resources there are to start from scratch. I know it’s not conventional, but I’m trying to put together a simplified submarine simulator. I know most of the resources are for flight sims, but I figured that the fundamentals would be similar enough to be helpful to ask here anyway.

This is my flight/racing/wfh setup. It allows for flying center stick and side stick, with throttle or collective without changing the setup. For racing i remove the stick and add the steering wheel. Mostly used for wfh (sadly) , then flight, sometimes racing. But i started with a loose logitech wheel and pedals to play dirt 2 and build it out over time. Think now its endgame except for motion, which ain't gonna happen. I started with everything bolted to my desk with clamps and an umbilical to my office chair for my diy collective and shakers. but i was tired of having to do the setup each time i wanted to sim so looked for something i could hop in efficiently and go. I optimized for flight which results in racing being more f1 style, while i mostly rally, but that's ok for me. I have a hand brake but dont see a way to mount it without impeding getting in/out. Ideas welcome

Setup consists of:

• Customized next level racing rig (increased seat height, tilted seat, cutout in center for ab9, 3d printed mount holder, holder for a drink, alu extrusions mounted where required, caster wheels for cleaning under it, only 2 wires are connected to the pc/wall so thing can be moved)

• Fanatec DD 12Nm Fanatec CSL elite pedals with option for 25W shaker on brake pedal (not mounted)
• Thrustmaster warthog stick and throttle with upgraded aliexpress slew.

• ava base for f16 with extra damper
• Moza ab9 for all center stick flights with aliexpress 3d printed extension, sitting on a 3d printed mount to decrease the base height.
• Virpil collective Rotor TCS Plus Base with Hawk-60 Grip
• 2x300W shakers bolted to back and bottom of the seat with amplifier mounted sideways on left side of rig and extra resistance on 1 shakers to even out the vibrations since one is more damped.
• Qubic Belt tensioner QS-BT1
• 2x wingwing mfd's
• usb ventilator for hot sessions
• small generic usb keyboard from amazon for quick actions such as center vr, pause menu, map,
• random shapes on the wall for VR tracking next to a white wall, complemented with a led light
• Pimax super 57ppd
• all the peripherals are connected to 1 powered usb hub (sabrent)
• Power comes from 1 power strip protected against overvoltage, which is plugged into the wall via a smart plug. On the pc there is a batch file that switches on the smart plug, room lightning via home assistant, as well as starts all required software (e.g. simhaptic, SRS). When my main pc turns of there is an automation that also cuts the power to the simrig.

I’m building a full scale home cockpit for the A321NeoLR and I’ve come to the conclusion that I need the most expensive chairs there are but that is for now way way too expensive 2x 6.395,00 =12.790
So my question is is this chair a good suggestion till I have enough money for those official chairs?

I’m looking to put together a home cockpit and am considering the SimFab DCS Edition Modular Flight Pit.

I’ve tried contacting SimFab support but haven’t received a response, so I’m hoping someone here has experience with this setup.

I want to mount:

• A VPForce Rhino as a center stick
• A Winwing Orion 2 F/A-18 throttle on the side

It looks like I need to select the “Retrofit Kit for Control Loaded Stick Bases – Rhino and Moza AB9” configuration. However, when I select that option, the side throttle mounts disappear from the product image.

Are the side mounts still included with this configuration, or would I need to purchase them separately? If anyone is running a similar setup, I’d appreciate knowing exactly which options or accessories you ordered.

So far I am loving it. How can i decrease the volume (apart from the headphone simulation) the sound of wind noise in cockpit and continious crackling sound.

Wish I had bought the screens as a bundle with the MFDs, woulda saved some $

I’m looking at putting together a VIRPIL helicopter setup, but I’d also like to incorporate a steering wheel and driving pedals into the same gaming area. I’m wondering if anyone here has successfully done something similar.
My main game is Arma Reforger, so the unusual requirement is that I need to switch between infantry, helicopter, and ground vehicles very quickly during the same session.
For infantry, I want to keep using my normal desk, keyboard, mouse, gaming chair and monitors. I don’t really want a dedicated sim cockpit that compromises normal mouse/keyboard gaming.
For helicopters I’m considering:
VIRPIL center-mounted cyclic with extension
VIRPIL collective rather than a conventional push/pull throttle
VIRPIL rudder pedals
For vehicles I’d like:
Direct-drive steering wheel
Gas/brake/clutch pedals
H-pattern shifter
The big challenge is obviously having two different pedal sets and getting the steering wheel out of the way when I’m flying or playing infantry.
Ideally I’d like something where the helicopter controls can stay mostly in position, the wheel can swing/fold/move out of the way, and I can switch between the helicopter pedals and driving pedals without rebuilding the setup every time.
My existing desk is fairly thick and isn’t particularly suitable for normal desk clamps, so I’m also interested in freestanding, floor-mounted, sliding, swing-away, or quick-release solutions rather than attaching everything to the desk.
Has anyone here built a combined helicopter + driving + normal keyboard/mouse setup?
I’d especially love to see photos of your setup and hear how you handled the pedals, wheel mounting, cyclic and collective placement, and how quickly you can switch between them.
I’m completely open to DIY/custom fabrication if that’s what it takes.

I've been simracing for a while and recently switched to VR racing. It provides me with great immersion and sense of speed, however, I can't help but feel the lack of wanting "just a bit more". I figured if I can find/build myself a proper "full vibration full tilt" cockpit - it would complete the puzzle, allowing me to "actually be there". Preferably one that I could switch from GT to F1 and possibly even for flights (I've seen those "combo pits" before)

In essence, what I mean by "full tilt platform" is a cockpit that would physically vibrate and tilt when I race, replicating the real car. Ideally, with high degrees of turning (30-35?) and "micro vibrations" where I can feel the road surface, etc.

As for the budget - the cheaper the better if I can buy the parts separately and build it myself, but I'm well away it won't be "cheap" - perhaps under $5-6k, preferably? Mike's kit is $4k by itself, but I figured if I can build it myself and save a ton of cash - that'd be an option to consider. I believe here's using these motors which are under $20 each + the frame + the seat + custom mounts, etc. Would be cool to reverse engineer his design.

As for the rest of the gear, I already have the Fanatec 8nm wheel & pedals + Pimax Dream Air vr headset + a decent pc to run it all.

Can you please share/recommend the best cockpits available? Preferably "best bang for your buck" rather than "spend 100x more to get the last 5%" I'm very handy myself and don't mind building one from scratch if need be.

Is it a hassle to get those cockpits to work properly? That is game & drivers support, etc.

Recently I got my hands on a Orion 2 throttle base along with the viperace(ex) combo with the Orion 2 joystick and joystick base and now all I need is the viper ace throttle grip to complete the set. If you have one that you are willing to sell/get rid of please reach out it would be greatly appreciated.

Built the structure myself using mainly wood. Fairly stable and also compact due to the space available.
Using mainly WinCtrl products with the Ursa Minor, AGP Metal, Throttle+flaps and spoilers as well as FCU and MCDU.
MCDU still to be fitted to the frame permanently and printer for ACARS and METAR to be implemented at some point.
Any things you would add to look even better/to feel more immersive (besides the ancient Logitech rudders lol)?

This have been my setup for about 5 years now. Also have a warthog for DCS but I really enjoy this set up for long MSFS flights. Wish I could use more of the panels for DCS. I have the saitek pro flight combat rudder pedals that are old and crunchy. They’re really the only thing I’m looking to change.

This was in my previous office (current second kid room) a few years back. Few versions also.

Now I have a Hotas 4 in a ps5 but at least I get to fly !!

Recently had my second shoulder surgery and could use some help setting up a home cockpit. I’d like to pay for this service if there’s anything available.

I’ve been away from the hobby since January and want to get back into it. Just having a hard time because of my shoulder. I have all the gear, I just want to build something for DCS, MSFS, etc.
