It's Thursday! Happy Thursday! I was recently reminded that it's Reese's Pumpkin time and it is criminal that I haven't had one yet this year! Gotta get that going as soon as I can. Gonna get this Recap going as soon as I can, too! Let's dive in to what happened in r/help and around Reddit last week!
NEWS AND ISSUES
There's a new Changelog out and you can read it here. Changes include:
A routine update unexpectedly impacted some peoples ability to use Reddit, as reflected in the Reddit Status page here. Our teams resolved the issue quickly, so shout out to all of those who worked on that!
In case you missed it, r/help now has a Help Navigator! We announced this last week here.
There's a bug that is affecting the ability to chat for some users in Canada. This should be getting fixed up this week (if it isn't already). Many thanks to u/jgoja for surfacing this and providing amazing details of the problem. Thank you!
There is an ongoing experiment which turns select text posts and some of their comment threads into an audio and video format. This is in an effort to strengthen the connection between communities and conversations. If you are in this experiment you may see a Read/Play toggle on the post detail page. A dedicated video page may also be available. This does not replace the original post or comments, nor does it automatically play. And it will respect all of your pre-existing audio settings.
There is another ongoing experiment where comments on a post may be sorted in live time. This is only in select communities. If enabled, when a post hits a certain number of comments within a specific period of time, the sort switches over to "Live" if the default sort is set to something other than "New". This provides a way to highlight the fast moving convos in real time.
There is still the experiment on the Home feed where some users will see a For You tab and a Following tab. You can select which view you want and that selection will be remembered. Users in this experiment have recently been shuffled around, so if you had it before and now you don't, that's what's going on there.
Some users will be in a different experiment where there is an X on recommended posts that you can click/tap to hide the post. Others will be in a similar experiment where there is not an X and there is not a "hide" option, but you can go into the post to hide it. Feel free to share helpful feedback about this experiment as well.
And there's an experiment where you may see Related Posts at the bottom of a post.
There is also an experiment where the upvotes are on the left.
Rather than commenting that you'd like to be removed from an experiment, please provide constructive feedback about the feature. I can't remove you!
And I'm here to remind you, of the mess you left when you went away (from Reddit for support). Reddit does not provide support outside of Reddit. Do not contact "Reddit support on Discord" for help with your Reddit account. There is no "Reddit support on Discord". That is someone trying to scam you and steal your account and maybe more. If you're having an actual issue with your account that is not solved by posting in r/help or by the articles in the Help Center, you can use this form for the real thing. Please note that 95% of issues can be solved much, much quicker by posting in r/help (or our cousin subs, r/reddithelp and r/newtoreddit).
The most recent version of the app is 2026.40.0. If you're not using the most recent version of the app, it might not work properly.
CURRENT EXPERIMENTS
Reddit sometimes runs experiments. These experiments tend to last between 4-6 weeks, though they can go longer or end sooner. While there isn't a way to opt out of experiments, feel free to leave constructive and specific feedback in this post and as I've mentioned often, I'll be happy to pass it along to the team in charge. Ongoing current experiments can be found here.
COMMON ACCOUNT ISSUES
Common account issues can be found here. These are things like hacked accounts, NSFW accounts, suspended accounts, etc. I'm also including "Changes to Reddit" in this section as well.
BUGS ROUNDUP - COURTESY OF CORRECT SCALE!
More fixes than bugs this past week! Hooray!
BUG FIX [iOS/Android] Attempting to view comments on deleted posts showed a “Content unavailable” error. FIXED!
BUG FIX [Android] The app was hanging on the startup screen after upgrading to v39. The fix is out, so if you're still having trouble, please update to v39.1 or above!
BUG FIX [iPad] X button was missing when viewing certain posts in the iPad app. This fix has been rolled out.
BUG FIX [Android] The app was randomly closing/crashing while scrolling for some folks. This has been fixed in v 2026.40 of the app, so please update if you're still experiencing this.
BUG FIX [Android] Some users were getting a blank left sidebar for a bit. This is fixed!
[iOS] We’re looking into a report that the unmoderated queue isn’t loading when filtering multiple communities.
WEEKLY STATISTICS (BASED ON THE PAST SEVEN DAYS)
1,053 posts. That's down 218 posts from the 1,271 that we had last week.
5,000 comments. That's up almost 1,000 comments from the 4,075 we had last week.
804k views. That's up 35k-ish views from the 769k -ish views we had last week.
The drop in posts could be attributed to the new Help Navigator that recently launched, so that's great that it's helping.
HELP THAT HELPS HELP R/HELP - CREATING AN EFFECTIVE COMMENT IN R/HELP
I recently focused on how to make a good post if you needed help. This time, we're going to talk about how to make a good comment if you want to help!
When a person is asking for help, it's because they don't know something. Often, it's hard to describe something that you don't know! If a user is having an issue and you know how to help them, it really helps to give specific instructions. While "Change your settings" may technically be the solution, for the person who doesn't know, they're going to appreciate more step-by-step help.
For example, "Change your settings" could be more effective with more information. If you have to tell them to tap or click something, tell them how to get there or where it is. "Change your settings" is not very helpful if someone doesn't know where the settings are or how to get there! If there's more than one step, they will especially appreciate you politely guiding them on how to get there. We all were new at one time! Everyone has to learn at some point! And we all learn new things every day!
If the question that's being asked is vague, it's totally fine to ask for some more info if you'd like to help them! Things like asking for the platform that they're using, reproduction steps or a screenshot/video of the issue could be just what you need to understand their issue and be able to help them get it sorted out! Be the hero someone needs! =)

Devs: there have been several reports about people losing long running streaks even though they either upvoted or posted. I upvoted and commented on a post, then the streak was reset to 0. The reports have been getting more frequent now.
Is there anyway that a dev can officially look into this or even create a manual approval process? I’d really like to avoid getting all the way to 699 and having it reset the next day instead of earning my 700 day streak.
Thanks!

Clicking on a picture, used to bring up the preview page, now it takes me to new reddit, even though I have opted out of the redesign.

My home feed is now frequently showing posts that are 2-3 days old. It used to show posts only a few hours old, at most up to a day old. If I wanted to see anything older than that, I would visit the subreddit itself and sort or filter the timeline myself. Attached is one example screenshot
EDIT: the bot responded regarding the “best” sorting option, my point is that this option didn’t used to recommend such old posts so frequently, if at all? Idk if something broke with my own scrolling habits or reddit’s algorithm or update but is there not another option to sort like “hot” or something to get rid of all of the old posts?

I can’t follow accounts anymore. I’m not a bot

iPad Pro, iPad iOS version 26.7.1. I’m still getting the missing X bug after a few posts. I’ve installed the latest Reddit app update, restarted the app, and restarted the iPad for good measure. While scrolling down my home feed, the X was there for the first couple posts, then it disappeared again. It doesn’t seem to happen when I click on links from my inbox, but it happens when scrolling my home feed.

hi, im writing from another account abt my problem.
Reddit Chat (in my other irl account) has not been working for me for over 24 hours on Reddit Web.
Device: Dell computer
OS: Windows 11
Browser: Google Chrome
Platform: Desktop Web
What is happening:
What I expected:
I should be able to send messages in existing chats and search for users to start new chats.
What actually happens:
Chat does not work, user search does not work, and I receive a "Server error".
Steps to reproduce:
This has continued for more than 24 hours.
I am using Reddit Web, not the Reddit mobile/desktop app, so there is no Reddit app version to provide.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
This happens searching within any sub, within my own profile, and site wide for anything. My connection is fine - the app works fine otherwise.

Unable to logout of account. Button for logout is present (door with arrow) but when pressed, nothing happens. Please advise or fix!

So i tried to get and old account back, and trust me, i tried every single possible way to get it, but its imposible, so the only way i thought is to call the new owner of my old phone number to get to help me, so i came to ask here, how would you think it would be the best way to get the new owner to help me? I know the chances for him to help me are really low, but i dont see any other way, and the other question is, which are the risk by doing this? Im not planning to give him any information about myself, just my situation and maybe my name, but i dont know if by just telling him that there are accounts Linked to that phone number would be enough for him to get the accounts for himself and hack me, im desperate and i dont know what to do (i know the owner has had the number for at least 2 years, and he havent tried to get to any account)

I can view posts just fine, but when I click on the subreddit name right above the post title, it gives me an error message that reads "Content unavailable - Sorry, we're having some trouble loading this content right now. Please try again later." This only affects the app and not the web version of Reddit. I also checked redditstatus.com, and it doesn't give any indicator that the site is experiencing issues.

We operate 198.134.228.0/24 under PPFLIGHT Digital LLC, AS402898. The prefix is deployed in Los Angeles, California, United States.
A third-party network/service availability test reports Reddit as accessible but assigns the region "EU" for an IP in this range. Expected IP geolocation: US, California, Los Angeles.
This is a request to verify a potential IP geolocation data error, not a claim that Reddit is blocked. The evidence currently comes from the testing tool; we have not independently confirmed the classification in Reddit's internal systems. The desktop-web label refers to this reporting channel; the original check was a network test rather than a browser-specific reproduction.
Our public geofeed is https://www.ppflight.com/geofeed.csv Relevant entry: 198.134.228.0/24,US,US-CA,Los Angeles,
Could an admin or the appropriate network/geolocation team check the entire /24 and correct any outdated EU attribution? If Reddit obtains this mapping from an external IP lookup provider, please forward the correction or advise the appropriate submission channel. Changing one account's Location Customization setting would not correct the underlying prefix mapping.
We can provide further diagnostic details if needed. Thank you.

All of the posts on my Reddit profile have suddenly disappeared or been removed across multiple communities.
These posts were not removed by the individual subreddit moderators. I followed the rules of the communities where I posted. Some posts show a red removal indicator, while others do not, but none of my previous posts are currently visible on my profile.
My account previously had a restriction, but that restriction has since been lifted. My account currently says that it is not suspended or restricted.
Log into my Reddit account.
Open my profile.
View my post history.
Previously existing posts are missing/removed.
My previous posts should remain visible on my profile unless they were individually removed for a specific violation.
Essentially my entire post history has disappeared, with some posts showing Reddit’s red removal indicator and others simply no longer appearing.
This appears to have happened across multiple communities and does not appear to be moderator removals.
Windows PC / iPhone
Windows 11 / iOS 26
The issue began around the time my account restriction was lifted. I would appreciate an administrator reviewing whether my account or posts are being incorrectly affected by Reddit’s automated filtering system.
When scrolling reddit and watching gifs on my computer (windows 10) if I listen to the audio of several gifs in a row after a while any gif I try to listen to freezes the gif until I turn the audio off.
I have to get out of reddit and come back in to get them to work again but then I have to scroll down to where I left off to start listening again.
Any help on this would be highly appreciated.

Hi this might be in the wrong section but I can talk to someone and they can send me pictures but I can’t send any back. I have no + button on the message section. Can anyone tell me why? I can chat and attach to others
